GNU/Linux

I installed Gentoo and noticed that the grub entry was "Gentoo GNU/Linux", and the /etc/default/grub file has the distro being "Gentoo".
Does grub seriously rename all distros to "GNU/Linux" or somehow require redistributors to rebrand themselves as GNU/Linux?
I dont even have any fucking gnu software installed. I feel like im trying to crack an amazon kindle DRM, jesus fucking christ

correction, no gnu software OTHER than grub.
my entire system is just one small piece of the ovearching GNU operating system (a fucking bootloader ((which linux already has))).

I've posted about similar things on other websites. GRUB is horse shit. The shell is a featureless and painful to use piece of shit. The interface is bad, it's hard to theme, and the configuration sucks big donkey cocks. And on top of that it has shit defaults on every distro. What a horrid piece of shitware.

I propose we build a bootloader that uses a modified version of SASH (stand alone shell) that will boot your OS, but also allow you to drop into a Unixy shell that's more comfortable to use for system maintenance and recovery. A graphical wrapper could also be added to make it look nice, but that's not as important. What's important is replacing that hideous failed abortion that is GRUB2.

just use refind

No. It's more bloatware.

How about grub nigga

Edit the shit in /etc/grub.d
Grub is abomination anyway, pretty sure you can live without it

what other good bootloaders are there?

Set it to probe for new disks and systems automatically so I don't have to dick around in the BIOS and spam F12 to boot from USB/CD, you stupid sack of shit bits. That might be nice start.

It's probably more complicated than that
Ubuntu for example doesn't get any GNU/Linux attached to it

Why bother with a separate bootloader at all when you can just tell EFI to boot the kernel directly?

To me it seems the config is available in the tree, not sure why it's not used. Ask the maintainer.
gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/tree/sys-boot/grub/files/grub.conf.gentoo

isn't that what you're asking?

It's one of the most popular rEFInd themes out there. I forgot the name but just look up rEFInd themes online and you will find it.
