Is GIMP Photoshop's special needs, crayon eating, helmet wearing younger brother that catches his fingers in the drawer on a regular basis and usually spends 20 minutes pushing a door with written "PULL" on it before someone else opens it for him?
Anything that GIMP can do Photoshop can do it in 1/5 of the time on a bad day. If i want to do the most basic shit on GIMP i need to figure it out by exploring the interface for a couple of hours and reading at least 5 pages before i even get close to a hint. What in Photoshop is direct and straightforward for GIMP is the most gargantuan task. I feel like i'm using a program from the early 90s for how slow and clunky it is. Can't handle visualizing on screen objects moving at real time speed but instead it looks like i'm watching a slideshow pressing fast on the arrows. The interface feels like that art gallery of objects intentionally made uncomfortable to use with the chain-handle fork, the mug with a hole in the bottom and the bumpy chair. Crashes just for the lols.
>Anything that GIMP can do Photoshop can do it in 1/5 of the time on a bad day. It can't even start in the same amount of time.

>Anything that GIMP can do Photoshop can do it in 1/5 of the time on a bad day. >t. Shantanu Narayen So Photoshop leaks memory and crashes 5 times faster than GIMP? Nice.
Levi Collins
Just use PS then. GIMP doesn't have smart objects, everybody knows this. I hope this (you) pleases you enough to not make another blog post.
Now add a font or two and GIMP takes 5 times as much to start, at best (if at all).

Photoshop can't draw peppers.

Lost the cracked license when i formatted my pc and i forgot to transfer it, now my copy doesn't work anymore lmao. I did it like 10 years ago and i don't even remember how the fuck i have done it nor if there are downloads available in the current year where everything is deleted from the public access internet at the speed of light.
By the way yeah, when it comes to add a new font i think feeding a baby steamed broccoli is easier. Not counting i have to slap it in the face a couple of times "Yo? Bro? You have a new font installed, it's right there" and he's like "DUDE WHAT".

Just use Clip Studio Paint or Krita

If people paid $120/year for GIMP then it would be about as good if not better than Photoshop. But instead they have 1 (one) full-time programmer.
Landon Adams
Why does he even bother? I started on gimp, but I quickly moved to PS. You don't really have to play for it.

Another slow day in the adobe mailroom, another photoshop shilling thread.

they've been granted, like, 400000$ recently

Tfw I have a ps license (I forgot but one of the more recent ones before they went subscription-based) and I stopped using it in favor of gimp. It's nice knowing any pc I touch I can install gimp in minutes and the past few years it's gotten a lot better

I don't know why gimp calls the circle tool "gradients" What's up with that?
>take a literal classes on a single piece of software >use it for months >>>why is anything else different?
Camden Martinez
> super heavy software with paying license and continuous data mining versus a slightly stiffer learning curve Gees I wonder in which case you save your time and money the most ...
In gimp circles are called gradients because radients are the SI unit for angles and 2π of them sweep out a circle. Gimp added the 'g' prefix because that's just how GNU programmers roll; they add g prefixes to everything.
Thankfully for Adobe, the 2.10 build of Gimp for OSX is buggy as shit, so Adobe's customer base (pretty much all macfags, let's be honest) is unlikely to switch anytime soon.
Easton Rogers
which one what bugs

Fuck gimp, using it is so fucking autistic even to do the most basic shit is ass backwards as fuck.
Easton Turner
Tool options often get grayed out for no reason.
on my work mac this is what I see right now; I can't change any of the brush paintbrush options. Also there are often rendering issues though perhaps that's just my particular GPU, I don't know.
Regardless, I don't see this behavior at home on linux.
His build requires using XQuartz, no? I waited for the official Gimp build that is 'native' OSX.
Jason Kelly
There's nothing wrong with XQuartz.
Charles Parker
It was wasting more of my screen space with the menu bar inside the window.
Jayden Carter
No problem, I have the software autism as well. No need to explain yourself.
But there's nothing wrong with XQuartz.
Nolan Davis
Thank you for understanding.
That said, it seems Partha's build is no longer using XQuartz and doesn't have the bug that kills the tool options, so this is great.
I'm still getting rendering errors (see the stray lines in pic related, I didn't draw those) but that's really just an annoyance, I assume they'll get cleared up in later versions or maybe if I fuck around with the preferences.
While Gimp does lack stuff, the time it takes you to do something in it has more to do with how familiar you are with the ui. For example it would take me significantly longer to crop a photo in photoshop just because I'm more familiar with Gimp.
Jose Miller
I use GIMP instead PS, because I dont want to pay and Im too lazy for crack it.
Carter Powell
Why he doesn't ask for more programmer?

here's a tip - you can separate the tools in the top from the options in the bottom
Angel Lopez
it's free software, you're free to make a PS UI for it if you want :^)
