Current state of the internet

So anons, have you discovered any new interesting sites or services lately? Steam apparently made its own media platform, and /l/eddit apparently has chatrooms now. The latter being a step in the right direction.

What else is new?

There isn't a single thing that's new or remotely "better" than before on the internet since 2007.

Attached: progress.jpg (480x953, 79K)

Nothing really interesting comes out at this point on the internet. Minor shit are happening, like
-diskek now selling games like steam
-steam now has chat functions like diskek
-steam is planning to ship wine so you can play wangblows games in gahnoo slash loonix OOB
Basically companies fighting for the shekels of gamers.

if you want "new", make something fucking new, stop being a leech

Oh I know, its a sad shitty world and i'm doing my best to change it, but finding and noting quality fringe sites that pop up is part of the deal. There are anons here who still frequent forums from pre 2007, I imagine some want to stay hidden, while others have just been buried beneath modern search algorithms.

jesus christ user, can you not do this shit.

I saw a website without ads the other day
It was incredible

i have last seen an ad back in 2005.

I always enjoy seeing only 1 or 2 entries in my noscript on a site without any of them pointing to ad services. Newgrounds is actually one of the better ones out there, they only run banner type ads and don't have any google code.

Working on it user, no need to get snippy, we're on the same team as long as you hate ads, tracking and boredom.

Unless you're on usenet i'm sure you read a few articles that were ads in disguise.

Attached: 1530015852198.jpg (1024x1024, 91K)

i don't read articles, haven't been outside boards and very narrow whitepaper googling since 2007.

That's pretty admirable, do you even spend much time online? What does an average day for you look like? I'm genuinely interested.

>do you even spend much time online
all of it.
>What does an average day for you look like
work -> eat -> browse boards -> go to sleep feeling like a shell of a man -> work
i would honestly killed myself already if i weren't so desensitized

>Making connections to servers
>Saying it's "visiting websites"
Ah yeah I too love to just visit Microsoft's website once in a while to unwind after a long day

I think I'd like to take up an experiment. Find what these top 35 websites are, block them all in my HOSTS file, and see if from there on if I can continue about my day.

Attached: wibybttn.gif (88x31, 2K)

I was looking for an information if a budget tablet, can run anything besides preinstalled chinky "compressed" win10. Not a single in-depth review, opening of it or whatever. Despite it being mildly popular apparently. One forum had a post "yeah it's a Chinese tablet but rebranded" (with no hint what was the original name).

Internet is regressing as a source of information.
I can't find anything that isn't box-reading or top10waysfornormiestodie.

Aw don't do that friend, change is possible, I mean life itself is pointless for everyone, you're just smart enough to realize it. Keep strong and wait for the next phase of cyberspace where you can leave the world behind without actually dying.

Sounds like a worthy experiment, though I think those top 35 have hundreds of subdomains within them. Google has its slimy tendrils deep inside every site. I wonder if you could somehow block all subdomains too.

i started replaying cookie clicker, they've added a farming feature that really makes me want to play a game about crossbreeding plants

i used to have dreams too. you'll see, it time.

woke as fuck

It was ok up until 2015.. then corporations began to panic their profits were at stake and so began to pay people to influence it.
Now you have shills everywhere.

I feel like I'm in the same place you are though, I'm old, im not getting younger, and the world has only been getting worse, but there are still things I'd like to see, and fully immersive virtual worlds may allow me to relive that feeling of the early internet.

who is this cute young lady? I keep seeing her and she's sort of drawing my attention to say the least

google told me its a pokemon trainer

You can probably block all connections to Google's ASes, but this will definitely break a large portion of the Internet. (You better have a Jow Forums pass, for starters.)

>all of it
m-me too...

>You better have a Jow Forums pass, for starters
Way ahead of you.

She's Hex Maniac, she comes in both small and extra thicc flavors.

As soon as google was necessary to run this place I knew we had passed the point of no return. We've also fell for the captcha trap and trained it for years, I doubt it can even be broken now.

On the note of breaking all google sites though, do you think there's a crawler out there that can do a standard google search, then omit all sites running google scripts/facebook etc? I'd love to see what remains.

Attached: 3bc2d87da3b806ec0f4fab94ed6bc0b8.jpg (800x1129, 86K)

I'd love to have a hand in changing this as well, but I have no idea what I can do.

Well, my plan so far is to collect interesting sites that don't do any tracking, just banner ads and what have you. I favor things that stray from the typical current format of the internet, and have good social community potential, smaller ones similar to say VG boards, but with their own sites, chatrooms etc with lots of content within their sites to keep those passionate about their favorite things busy. Move away from mainstream outlets like youtube, imgur etc, and stop giving them money. Possibly abusing their hosting via some fenaggling to save on bandwidth.

I figure once the true social domains are reopened, there will be lots of ideas of how to make our little corner of the internet better. I'm currently going to school for webdev and programming to make this happen.

I'm still waiting for Exodus, or Gensokyo, or any of the other "We're making our own internet but for real this time!" projects to take off. All I need to be happy is a world without normalfaggotry.

Attached: Loli_at_computer.jpg (700x513, 66K)

I'll have to check out those other projects. I know the serious touhou fandom is repulsed by normalfags as an interest group.

Exodus is interesting since its backed by hardware, though I don't understand enough about blockchain technology or the manufacturers to know if they deliver on the security or privacy they're promising. I don't imagine government bodies would allow a device to exist that would make things easier for criminals. I have not been able to find anything about a Gensokyo internet project, is this an effort run by /jp/?

thanksies

happiness is a simulacrum. it exists as a state which "you" pursue. but the trick is, there's actually no "you". "you" is just a bunch of inputs and memories. which in turn do not have any meaning to them. hell isn't a place and you cannot escape something which doesn't have bounds.

Who cares about metaphysics? I don't like normalfags, and that's all I need to know.

normalfags are an idea that you pin the blame to. in reality world haven't changed, there isn't a thing to blame. you did. to feel alive again you'd have to get rid of yourself.

Attached: masquerade has been broken.jpg (1425x1071, 339K)

Disagree, the world has absolutely changed, this isn't all in our heads, the only things that havent changed are inanimate things lucky enough to remain untouched by modern society.

There's also Meshnet that has been around for a while. I might use this as a prompt to look into more internet alternatives. Maybe that's where anyone interesting is hiding.

Back in 2009/2010, banner ads were the norm. I didn't mind them, and still don't knowing nothing comes for free.
However, if I remember properly, ads were relevant to the site, not my data. (Like smartphone sales that started appearing everywhere in 2016, when my interest in them increased) And that begs the question: If they're so very concerned about delivering ads tailored to me, WHY NOT JUST FUCKING ASK ME? WHAT IN THE NAME OF FUCK IS THE NEED FOR ALL OF THIS? It's really obvious they're making profiles about us for other reasons, honestly, how retarded do they think I am?

Forums were still a thing back then, and it felt somewhat good to be a part of a community of sorts. Jow Forums is a similar case to me, but it's such a fucking echo chamber.

I have a question: are you the same user who made a similar thread and also avatared with Hex Maniac lactation porn a few months ago? That thread gradually devolved into capitalism and communism, shame.(You westerners love pulling that shit)

>how retarded do they think I am?
if it didn't work, they wouldn't be doing it
that's a scary thought

What I meant was that it specifically bothers me that they think I believe that all the data mining they do is not only anonymous, but also entirely for marketing purposes, I don't.

>data collection and profiles
I can only assume thats exactly what they do, and I imagine its much more profitable to know where they aren't wasting money if they already know our interests and what ads we'll respond to by which articles and images we'll click on (which is basically a free transaction) also in the same way subliminal messaging worked on us with TV, it still works with us online too. I still remember all of those commercial jingles I learned as a child.

>Jow Forums
I consider this place largely a lost cause and have for a long time. The population is too high, the same crowds that frequent every other social media site are all here, and the normalfag hating minority that remains are difficult to find with the oversaturation of threads. There is no code word to bring quality discussion together lest you have a topic so boring no normalfag dare click on it.

I am the same user who made threads discussing this same topic months ago about creating an alternative for the original denizens of the internet, of Jow Forums, and people who are otherwise as tired of the current state of things as I am, though I dont remember anything about lactation porn, just big breasted Hex posting like pic related. I do recall seeing one other Hex OP who may have been trying to continue my discussion.

Attached: 150.jpg (680x971, 61K)

>though I dont remember anything about lactation porn
I think I browse /d/ too much for my own good.

>There is no code word to bring quality discussion together
ロリコン
Instantly drives away all normalfags, aside from spammers who are easily ignored.

Attached: 1375578431405.jpg (2000x3022, 811K)

Also:
I'm a Jow Forums tourist at best, and mostly visit for the fetishes I find on porn boards. I've been visiting Jow Forums for a few months, mainly for talks about smartphones. Yet the community is easily predictable, hence echo chambers.

Jow Forums
>Intel is shit
>AMD is shit
>paying more than $50 for a phone
>Wymn in tech
>AI sex dolls
>LARPing as a pajeet, usually to say how much iPhones are better.

On the other hand, /gif/
>Threads about traps literally doing anything
>People losing their shit over trap threads
>People losing their shit over BLACKED threads
>People losing their shit over no blacks threads

Its an easy way to identify normalfags thats for sure. Most of them dont remember the boards we used to have. I didn't frequent them, but I was happy they were there. The internet was a free place seperate from the real world as it should be.

All the boards I visit are the same way, though ive been here off and on since forever for lack of good alternatives for quick answers. I dislike waiting days for a forum reply that may never be answered.

/v/
"What is the x of z" "*INHALES*" "so now that the dust has settled..." etc etc. I once made a thread with as many of these as I could remember, and some guy posted that I had triggered almost every one of his filters. I've seen others making threads about all of these dumb headers since, so its nice to see others are tired of it.

I've found overall Jow Forums has been the most receptive about these kind of topics, so there's likely some decent regulars here. /v/ seems largely underage or normalfags and ive only had a handful of good discussions in the last year about things like Castlevania.

Attached: 1c370b327d70340484d442222b585a24.jpg (839x1039, 99K)

I find ads like pic related on Jow Forums among other sites funny.
> (Insert large city near me here) businessman has been shitting gold for the past couple of months. click here to find out how.
>Totally not tits

The city in question is usually either Cairo or Alexandria, sometimes it's my actual location. The image is either an attractive woman or a Saudi man (for some reason).

It's all sorts of weebs, not just 2hu.

>WE DON'T TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB
Really though if you spend enough time in the right circles you'll know. Jow Forums doesn't count because it's crawling with normalfags and glows in the dark.

Y-You too...

I'm trying, user, but I don't make a lot of money and even trying to get above a CS graduate meme tier with Python is kicking my ass.

>Maybe that's where anyone interesting is hiding.
I hope not. If everyone already left without me I don't know what I'll do.

Attached: 1524898689587.jpg (1000x562, 117K)

Those steepto ads showed up somewhat recently didnt they? I'm not on my PC much anymore on account of the monitor being broken, but I tried blocking those for awhile to no avail and they seem to know my location.

>fight club
I'm sure I could get there under the right circumstances, but I have a girlfriend and not enough bandwidth. For now I have to settle for this place.

does anyone even click on these ads?

I hit one by mistake while trying to learn to use a trackball. Ublock caught it, fortunately.

Attached: 1411331411001.png (270x326, 23K)

Could you elaborate more on this user?

Lolicon attracts normalfags because they want to complain about it.

It keeps them out of the conversation which fosters a higher level of dialogue. The retards on the sidelines screeching PEDOPHILES REEEEEE can't be eliminated, but it's better to have them crying than contributing their misinformed and uneducated opinions on the topic at hand.

Attached: 1530455419994.jpg (1110x1569, 163K)

I miss when it was just an innocent thing no one gave much thought to except to fap. Now Jow Forums thinks cartoon anime girls is some kind of conspiracy they have to crusade against.

Not him but ill give you my perspective on it. As much as Jow Forums likes to cry shill on every single grievance, paid influencers do exist, but they're mostly there for consumer products. Like if a new AAA game comes out for example, all major social media has paid influencers promoting the product without letting on that thats what theyre there to do. Theyll make similar topics to a typical user, and try to steer the conversation in a direction that gets the product seen in a positive light. Social media managers and reps tend to do these sort of jobs.

Jow Forums makes me sad. They could be a powerful force for good if they just fought against "stupidity" instead of "niggers". Now they're some sort of white supremacist, Christian state religion, conspiracy theorist... thing that nobody can take seriously in their right mind.

>until 2015. And here we see the second problem. Zoomer fags who don't even know the good part anymore. So their mediocre becomes the good for them. It goes all to shit.

They really dropped the ball, thats what happens when you have normalfags among your number though.

Fucking hell this image speaks to me on so many levels.
It's literally why I live on FreeBSDs vt with vi, irssi, w3m, and ncmpcpp in tmux for most of the time - the only website I visit regularily anymore is where Jow Forums and its original users came from.
The internet is fucking shit.

I'm one of the really old people who started using Jow Forums the same day moot announced it on RH, and I swear I barely even use Jow Forums anymore. Everything moves too fucking fast for any but the rarest of good discussions to happen, and there's too much meme culture (even for someone that had a big hand in creating the meme culture that exists today, I can't stand it - everything made now is uncreative and lazy).

4chans origin has the perfect headline for this entire thread.

For fuck sakes I remember you making one of these threads about 2 months ago with the exact same girl

I wonder who is behind this post, marketers or government?

I don't know how you got that from my threads, but that's not at all what I intend. If the internet right now is a big room, I want us in the corner, still visible but out of the way.

I'm not quite that old, but I discovered it early into its lifespan. I think I have images from 04 or 05. But i've been online since the late 90s.

Also found a quality thread.
forums.freebsd.org/threads/quality-of-the-web.66951/

If by "us" you mean Jow Forums, that's already the case. People like to view Jow Forums as an extension of themselves due to the format but that's simply not how it works, there's various different people from different backgrounds yet people still want others to conform to their perceived ideal. I'm not even talking about shitposting or the 10's postironic meme culture here, but those people that complain about "muh normalfags" and project that the entire userbase must be misfits and just viciously shun pretty normal opinions because they are entirely convinced that an entire population must fill their quota.
What I'm saying is; you can't fight da powah, and convincing Jow Forums and Jow Forums to do something as a whole is just bound to be moot due to the limited attention span originated by the ephemeral format.
Any ideas that get discussed here is just wishful thinking and at best will only contribute in a small portion of what your perceived success is. Not to mention the people you want to be surrounded by are long gone or overshadowed so in the end you would be talking to people in their 20s who vicariously "experienced" Jow Forums and the older Internet as a whole through articles, ED and archives. I've even seen a faggot adopting SR's trip for that oldfag epeen, that's just not how it works, the whole notion of oldfaggotry in an anonymous imageboard just defeats the purpose. I'm not saying the new content here is gospel compared to say, 2005, but the constant inter-wanking and fear of letting go just looms over as a cloud.
Jow Forums is still in the corner, maybe not so much sekrit club, but still "obscure" enough that you won't see the average joe or yuuchuuba mention it or reference it directly.
In the end, you just need to let the world be. The best way you can influence the chansphere is by sucking enough mod dicks and aggressively promoting old standards or just being a nice poster overall. The internet has gotten too big and meta for anything of old to come back.

Attached: image_miminyami.gif (250x250, 16K)

Actually thinking about it, DDT-only posting on Jow Forums could make it what it once was, but I doubt most people run DDT.

How would DDT posting magically morph current Jow Forums into 2006?

Attached: 1147467794773.jpg (640x480, 78K)

>moot
Who?
Anyways Jow Forums has been in the news too damn much recently, as in since 2011. Also PewDiePie mentioned Jow Forums to his, let me just check, god damn 65 million subscribers. I actually don't know what makes you think this place is even remotely obscure anymore.
As far as making sure Jow Forums is pure and free of normalfags, that isn't really anyone but the diehard extremists' intention. It's more like Victorian respectability, where you can be Utilitarian or Evangelican as long as you support free economics and go to Church on Sunday. Nobody is really saying everyone has to be a self loathing weeaboo with no friends who herks off ten times a day, but that any Chads should make polite company and keep it to themselves. Ok someone probably is but most aren't. You can be a normalfag, just stop strutting your notmalfaggotry here. This is not the place for it.

Attached: eec.jpg (600x319, 45K)

synchtube came back up. Not the old accounts. Someone might've just c+p'ed a public source code because the SSL certificate is expired and it looks old.

I'm talking about an addition to Jow Forums X that removes all non-DDT posts if you have DDT also installed and adjust a setting somewhere.

>Who?
I really hope you're kidding, or you've just made me feel old. :(

Of course I'm kidding. He was using moot as a word, not the name. There are people that new here though, mostly on Jow Forums, Jow Forums, or /b/ though.

I found the Lego Stormrunner game:

It takes flash, and you have to disable Java blocking insecure encryption

The game is quite ass for controls. I wish it was ported.

And Jow Forums is still """obscure""" in the sense that it just has a very bad reputation so the average person doesn't really care for or use it aside from the edgy teenager, and those have been since the start of time

i remember you

Attached: Mine.gif (88x31, 5K)

May I also add that Jow Forums's interface is, while functional, outdated and unappealing from a visual standpoint. I personally think that drives some people away.

It's just a massive influx of new users who aren't coming here from somewhere respectable like a low brow forum. Inevitable since those stopped existing, but a shame nevertheless. It's made worse by the divide between vocal normalfags and True Jow Forums™, since they'll see the debate and think their nonsense is valid and worth asserting, rather than lurking and conforming. The hivemind here is everything. Without it this is just an anonymous Youtube comments section.

Okay I did read all of that but im only going to respond to a bit of it. If a good alternative exists, people will use it. This has been proven via some of the splintering to inf 8 etc, I don't want to make the next Jow Forums, nor do I want all of its users. When I talk about 'Us' I'm talking about the people who are tired and bored of the modern net and answering machine style social media communities that have no quality control or actual social interaction. Obviously we're having a bit of that now, thanks to this thread, but how often can we ever have real legitimate discussion instead of getting a thread buried by shitposts recycled memes? The people who frequent this place largely care about how many replies they can get from their bait, whereas I want people like the users in this thread who are nostalgic for better days.

Jow Forums is absolutely all over youtube and mentioned in many news outlets depending on the focus or the article. Usually referred to as "a shady website" but their our post screencaps all over imgur daily, if you type Jow Forums into youtube or google and check "last 24 hours" its no secret everybody knows. If someone 'leaks' something on /v/ that rumor makes its way to reddit and everywhere else in a couple of hours.

Interesting idea.

The hivemind becomes a shitheap when it hits too high a population. They ran an experiment about this using rats en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavioral_sink

Good find, I think Alfy's world is still up with a lot of old games too.

Post the bleach gif and see how many people condone it, last time I saw it 8/10 people were trying to warn others instead of letting nature take its course.

If you spent as much time looking for good conversation as you do bemoaning its lack then you would be here. This is the rant of a lazy man. Times change, you grow up, the kids are thoughtless idiots, they always were. If things stayed static you would complain too. The reason your safe space doesn't exist anymore isn't because it's been invaded, it's because your demographic has moved on and got lives.

This is basically the meme was referencing

Bõner. It's Spanish for muh dick.

There's a pretty good reason why boards got purged though.
There were boards where the last post was several years old, literally.
A board like that isn't really worth keeping.

The internet got smaller and more accessible via phones user, a lot more than the demographic has shifted.

Agreed, a dead niche might as well not be there, but if there are several posts a day or even every few days its worth keeping. I think of communities like this one, its niche enough that theres both an active community and it repels a lot of the usual crowd.

This doesn't and hasn't worked in the past, if you want and need (you probably do) a current example look at /qa/, it's just faggots with their spam bots posting risque pictures to trigger people for free (You)s instead of actually discussing anything.
Self moderation has never been a good thing, and that includes visible sage/sage bombing

next big thing is evolution of real time streaming and chat rooms
the live chat on stuff like youtube videos and twitch is going to go mainstream (facebook mainstream)
it's going to become a lot more interactive
it's going to have a lot of overlap with the functionality of discord
all of the above has been obvious as a form of entertainment for over a decade but the tech and proof of concept/profit websites finally exist
a more anonymous more media only based facebook is coming
