How to get better at programming, I went through college and I still feel like I cant do anything.

Write smallish programs and tinker with them. Your goal isn't to create anything useful, but to play with it to build your mental toolbox.

I do that but then when I have larger issues I look them up on stackoverflow which seems cheap even though that's apparently what everyone does. I just have an issue with staring at a blank sheet along with me thinking I need to use every framework, I don't know what I should be building and what I should be leaving to others.

Jow Forums whats the program that changes your computer screen based on the time?
Like it slowly goes to a more blue light at night time so as to not damage my light collection spheres?

f.lux, but Win10 honestly does this automatically already in display settings.

Jow Forums my pages keep loading with that broken, white, no style thing
how do i fix it without allowing all requests and all scripts from shit like amgload.net, smcheck.net, and piguipqroxy.com

Attached: 1424277314265.png (446x373, 42K)

Stop and think, what is the actual problem, and how would I solve it without a framework? Frameworks make it easy to write programs that do complicated tasks, but if you want to really understand programming, you should learn how to do things without, so you at least know what a framework is doing when you use it.

Why everyone hates amd gpus?

make a new userscript with this

Ill try to reserve frameworks to big things like Googles image recognition type things. Things that have been in the making for years that I cant possibly do on my own.

to add to this
the page loads fine at first, then a second later goes white
so i checked requests and got pic related
wtf is this and why does it break the style if it is blocked (or allowed)

HOLY SHIT THANK YOU IT FIXED IT
I kept thinking it must be me, or something i did
why would anyone break the site on purpose like that

it's the hiroshimoot, no one can explain his insane mind.

Im actually working on a brand new userscript for Jow Forums right now
it will dd many extra cool features & magic
its going to be my gift back to you guys for being so nice & helping when you can, like just now

to add to this, it is to be used WITH 4chanX or without, but it does not replicate or try to replace anything in 4ChanX

Why does this braindead simple greasemonkey script not run when I click a youtube video, but does run when I refresh the page?

alert (currentLocation);

Cool. The only thing I can mention right now that doesn't seem to work nicely with Jow Forums X for me is:
- choosing a Style without using cookies (like if you always want the Tomorrow style for example)
- sometimes I randomly get duplicate quote backlinks on posts. Probably the native extension that gets activated besides Jow Forums X

I want a cheap, small, and very low power consumption "seedbox", I just want to run sonarr and qbittorrent or rutorrent and I won't run more than 3 torrents at the same time
>at least 1 usb3
>support for 100gb+ sd cards
>gigabit ethernet
any recommendations?

On the latest Waterfox. Pixiv animations/ugoiras aren't working for me; tried the AnkPixiv addon but it just downloads them as .zips full of .jpgs. Any ideas?

I got a crappy $20 headset
it doesn't seem to pick up all the channels unless I have the mic plugged in as well but it has to be left a little unplugged
for example when I play siege I can only hear footsteps are the other sounds are so quiet you can barely hear it but if I unplug the mic a little it would work fine and you could hear gunshots etc.
also the mic doesn't work at all
anybody know why it would work like this at all?
doesn't make any sense to me

what is the core of programming? can anyone of above average intelligence learn it? what are the must have skills?

data theory and discrete math
if you passed algebra 1 you should be able to be as good as a pajeet if not better

Why are browsers so trash at rendering gifs.
On tumblr archives I get about half a screen of infinite scroll gifs before they stop loading forevermore. And any gifs opened as full size in new tabs also fail to load half of the time.
I have a decent PC, 100mb fibre and have tried chrome/ff.
Also partially loaded gifs flicker. It's all buggy as shit.

Why some people are so autistic about using Ubuntu?

Someone said it was fine last thread (much appreciated) but I just want to double check so I don't fuck anything up:

If I copy my files (music, documents, video etc.) to an external hard drive, re-install Windows, and then copy them back, will everything work fine or will there be permission problems?

Attached: 1469046580208.png (1296x2048, 1.8M)

completely fine
people have to do it all the time
did for my mom a couple months ago

Only installed programs will have problems. Media is fine

Redpill me on clevo/sager barebones laptops. The specs are excellent, but are they reliable? Can I really fix problems myself and/or upgrade stuff?

whats faster linux or bsd
is it true that bsd has the fastest file system among desktop os ever

Thank you.

I need to extend wifi to the far end of my house, are there any catches to watch out for or do I just buy a random access point and plug it into the ethernet?

what actually is raytracing

So is RAM like the size of your closet where you keep stuff or is it more like the size of your work bench

you draw 3d graphics by drawing lines from each pixel on your monitor out into the world and finding what triangles it intersects, like a simulated beam of light
classical rendering method just goes through all the triangles and draws them onto the screen

can you be a codemonkey without knowing git? Am too much of a brainlet to wrap my head around branching/merging, and using console commands

using git is easier than programming

It's more like the size of your dry erase board.

Is 4k UHD a meme, or is it actually going to stay a while?

People got burned badly with HD-DVD, VCD, and LD in the past, so I'm a little on guard with UHD-BD.

rogerdudler.github.io/git-guide/

Git is vaguely confusing but that's a good guide to the main functions that you'll want.

How do I figure out if a monitor is good without seeing it in person? I'm not talking about refresh rates/response times. What's the metric for having good color? I have a $200 monitor right now that looks amazing. When I tried upgrading to some $350 shit with good reviews it just looked shittier, tinted blue and washed out.

tl;dr I want a monitor with good color that's at least 24"

i don't know greasemonkey but i do know js. it seems like your script isn't waiting for some event where a user clicks an element? there's no hook or attempt to find the video element

Low Level programmer here and Im wanting to make a little website image board thingy but have a board with feeds of different stock markets. How does someone add real time tickers of markets like the SP 500 etc...

how can i become smart?

How can I learn to code an app?

>Highlight a bunch of folders
>Tell it to display for documents
>Apply
>It reverts
How do I make it display all selected folders as optimised for documents?

Would that mean physically removing the graphics card?

if it comes to that, yes, you may have to remove everything

What exactly is winbind and why does wine want me to install it?

Okay, when it intially crashed the screen went into like black and white overlay bars, does that mean it's likely the graphics card?

How can I hide apps on my Pixel 2 without rooting it? My Galaxy had Samsung secure folder which was awesome and basically had a second password requirement to access the apps/files I wanted to hide

I need to buy a decent quality external HD to backup and transfer my stuff. 4TB will do. What are my best and safest options? I care more about the quality of the drive(s) than the price.
Should I go for this meme?

As long as it wasn't previously used for mining that's a good price

it could be. and if you suspected the video card, you should have already taken it out. if that chip doesnt have on board video, try out a different video card that you know for certain works

I will try this asap thanknyou.

any advice for someone opening up their laptop for the first time for a clean? I've got 99% isopropyl alcohol, cotton buds, 2 cans of compressed air and a 1g tube of noctua thermal paste. I know to avoid spinning the fans and to ensure there's no crap or spillage outside the die but that's about it

I'll be moving into my first apartment in a month, how do I set up Wi-Fi in it? Any recommended routers (or other devices)?

I just moved into the US and I'm looking for a good-ish laptop to play some vidya (mostly FFXIV) and programming. Any tip? I'd prefer buying from Amazon. My budget is around 800-1500

the ribbons interconnecting the screen to the mainboard pieces are pretty fragile in newer laptops. never apply pressure if there is resistance until you check there is nothing connected there

your isp will literally do all that for you

>using the ISPs router
We can do so much better user, without 100% less botnet too

I thought isp provided router is trash-tier?
My grandma has one on what is supposed to be a fast connection but is way slower and really unstable

either way, most of the time they'll just set up the modem and go

thanks mate I'll keep an eye on it. I've backed up my data but if I break this laptop I have nothing

Are popcorn time and porntime still relevant? Does porntime still have tags for categories or does it just index file titles?

When I try and run a Fedora 28 guest KVM on CentOS 7 I get past the install but then it hangs when I try to restart and boot into the system. It gets past a loading screen the hangs at the Fedora logo before I get to the login. Does anyone know how I can get past this?

>I thought isp provided router is trash-tier?
It is and sometimes it's botnet too because they either;
> want to serve ads on your browsing
> mine your browsing
> censor your browsing

A lot of that is done via pseudo-vpns and shit in the router.

I'm trying to do direct peer to peer messaging (small remote control messages, and live streaming data) for a web thing, and for something I'm writing a client for. (though, it's in python, so I plan on using the same solution)
What's the lowest effort way of setting this up? The less centralized the better.

Could someone write me a simple AutoHotKey script that does the following?

W key - 1 second
Wait X time
S key - 1 second
Wait X time
Repeat

Just getting into AHK, I can convert the times into AHK format but I need to calculate those too. plz help my peabrain

hello! i was wondering if any of you have read learncodethehardway.org/c/. i bought both his books on python and i sort of like his hands on approach but now that i got the basics down i'm wondering if this approach is 'appropriate'. haven't actually read the c book but if it's anything like python books then it's a lot of repetition to learn skill and i got a feeling that i already know all the basics in that book (except syntax of course). so what do you think?

Nobody on this board probably has the answer to this, but what's the best laptop for music production (Ableton) for under 1k

so what's a reasonably priced model that's recommended by Jow Forums

Attached: ULDt4n9.jpg (1200x1600, 341K)

my old asus laptop keeps losing power when plugged in.

the exact behaviour is that *sometimes* it switches plugged/unplugged status at variable speed (0.3-1 Hz) for some seconds or minutes.
i can't find a way to blame one component more than the other.
i spent a day repairing the cable of the charger, which was and is in bad conditions, and while my fix is awful and could still be the problem, the problem not being solved led me to suspect the real issue might be elsewhere: is this a reasonable failure pattern for a controller/contact inside the laptop? how can i diagnose which one?

PS: i have no other charger cable to try out and i'd rather not spend 20€ to buy another one with Asus snowflake connector.

Computer I'm working on for a friend boots if the cpu power cable is unplugged, then fully boots once you plug it in during this state. But if you try to boot with the cpu power cable in it turns on fir a second and shuts off. We got a exchange on the motherboard because I thought that was the problem but didn't work. I've tried running with one stick of ram, removed video card, resetting cmos battery, still didn't work.

Build is gtx 1060, i7, 16gb ram, 600w psu. My guess at this point is the psu is faulty or this isn't enough power, but it should be, right? Help me out boys.

If the PSU is working properly and is an honestly-rated quality unit, then yes, 600 watts is plenty enough power for those components.

But those symptoms do strongly point to the PSU. The PSU may be a.) faulty, or b.) crap to begin with. What make and model is it? Do you have another PSU to test with?

Is it true that rubbing salt into a wound will help it heal faster?

We tried other psu's with similar wattage (550-600) and we were still running into the same issue. It's bizarre.

The only working solution is unplugging cpu power cable, boot (doesn't fully boot) then plug it in, and it boots up fine. Works like this on all the psu's we've tried. And new motherboard. I don't get it.

>What are my best and safest options?
Either two separate disks that you'll swap or a redundant (RAID 1 configured) NAS.

maybe those bottom of the barrel nuc boxes ?
those are like 100 bucks or something

4K is a meme
8K is already on the horizon for 2020

I refuse to spend more than 50$ on a shit seedbox , can a memepie handle it?

Possibly but the network port was shared by the USB ports I think, and I can't remember if the pi3+ had 1 gbit already.

is it ok to hot-swap RAM while the system is on?

can anyone recommend a good program for resizing multiple images at once? i have a number of pictures i need to cut by half their resolution, and im getting really tired of doing each one manually in gimp or paint.

>AHK format
you mean milliseconds?

I really wanna switch to linux but all I know is windows and I'm scared of change, what are some good resources to make the change less daunting?

Attached: bigsad.jpg (115x125, 3K)

I remember hearing there was another way to activate Windows for free, without using KMS. Care to share the method?

I did something similar for GTA Online anti-idling, the time amounts are different and it's not the simplest way to achieve your goal (I set everything up as a timer so it would keep in its own thread and not disrupt other hotkeys) but it might be useful for you. You can see my entire script here: pastebin.com/k6WyAWuA but here's the relevant part:

; GTA timer variables
GTAIdleOn = 0
Return

; GTA V idle-avoiding loop
GTAIdle:
IfWinExist, ahk_exe GTA5.exe
{
SetKeyDelay, 60, 60
IfWinExist, A
{
WinActivate, ahk_exe GTA5.exe
Send, {w down}{s down}
Sleep 100
Send, {w up}{s up}
WinActivate
}
}
else {
MsgBox GTA 5 window not detected. Ending anti-idle loop.
GTAIdleOn = 0
SetTimer, GTAIdle, Delete
}
Return

#IfWinActive ahk_exe GTA5.exe
; Idle avoiding loop (ctrl+shift+I)
^+i::
if GTAIdleOn {
MsgBox Disabling anti-idle loop.
GTAIdleOn = 0
SetTimer, GTAIdle, Delete
}
else {
MsgBox Enabling anti-idle loop.
GTAIdleOn = 1
SetTimer, GTAIdle, 420000
}
Return

It sets up a looping timer to trigger every 7 minutes and perform the subroutine defined above at that interval. You can probably adapt this to whatever your needs are, or check out the full script for other shit you can reference maybe.

New chair time. Should I even bother considering other brands if I'm willing to pay for Steelcase or Herman Miller? I know there are much better values, and that I'm paying a premium for the names, but is there a BETTER chair?

thanks friend

>"Gigabit Ethernet over USB 2.0 (maximum throughput 300 Mbps)"
for less than 50$, I can live with. Thanks for the heads up.

Got a new pc and have had problems with it. Within 5 minutes of playing cs go the game will freeze everytime but the audio still plays. Happens on other games too but less often. Also happens from just browsing internet every 2 hrs or so. The games run smoothly otherwise.

Oh also this part

IfWinExist, A
...
WinActivate, ahk_exe GTA5.exe
...
WinActivate

is basically to tell it to focus the game window before performing the action (since I use this when I'm doing other shit on the computer) and then give focus back to whatever I was doing when it's done. The first "IfWinExist, A" just tells it to remember the current active window so that the final "WinActivate" instruction acts on the last found window (whatever you were doing before the subroutine got called), and the WinActivate, ahk_exe GTA5.exe obviously focuses the GTA window.

Not sure if it's relevant to what you want to do but figured that part might be confusing if you're not familiar with AHK stuff. Anything else seems confusing the official autohotkey documentation is usually pretty helpful if you have a vague idea of what you're trying to do or what commands you want to work with.

Also that might not be necessary if the program you're trying to mess with supports methods like ControlSend that can send input to the window without it being focused. In my case GTA5 doesn't seem to like that and the only way I could find to get it to accept input when not focused was to emulate a 360 gamepad but that introduced other problems like sometimes making my real gamepad unresponsive when I need it later so I usually don't bother with that.

This is difficult to explain, but my ISP runs a youtube clone, and I want to watch those videos on mpv.
I can see the video links in the source along with the caption file, but this would mean copying and pasting back and forth to the terminal
Is there a way to add a button to the page for those links in the webpage using Userscript?
