Was XP the first one to call home to Microsoft with user data or was that 2000?

Windows XP is the worst OS I've ever used. Not even nostalgia could make me like it. It's ass ugly, riddled with malware and toolbars, and would blue screen every other day.

It was XP, or maybe 2000 with one of the service packs.

>riddled with malware and toolbars
That's kinda of a 'you' problem.

Not our fault you can’t help but click false download links

There's literally unpatched 0 day in it that Ms won't fix
It's an everyone using XP problem

Where can I find the PoC?

But seriously, everyone became a security expert with XP's end of life, even the retards that won't encrypt passwords on production databases because "it's easier to access the accounts" will tell you that XP is unsecure when there's not a single unpatched CVE.

It used to take my computer 45 minutes to boot up back in the day. Good times.

Only with pic related

Attached: Screenshot8mhz_system.gif (800x600, 82K)

Took less than one minute in my old P2-300. But I had a shitty-ass MediaGX that took almost 5 minutes to boot up.

If you know about it, it’s not a zero day.

"A zero-day (also known as 0-day) vulnerability is a computer-software vulnerability that is unknown to those who would be interested in mitigating the vulnerability"
Technically, because Microsoft doesn't look after XP anymore, they don't know about it.

Every system has a 0-day so it doesn't matter what you use.

>Good times
good TIMES indeed.

>doesn't know the odd/even law of modern Windows NT family

Windows ME...
now THAT was an OS

>user interface is a joke
>default theme looks like a toy
>Star menu worse than before
>taskbar still has quick launcher and windows
>Active Desktop neither improved nor removed
>desktop cleanup function
>useless Search program
>introduced ClearType
>introduced Windows Product Activation
>introduced Automatic Updates
>spyware known as Windows Genuine Advantage
>introduced system restore but was buggy
>Internet Explorer was everywhere
>shit firewall requiring a third-party for anything serious
>MSN Explorer
>Windows Messenger
>OS/2 & POSIX subsystem removed

Truly the last good windows OS. Need to build a new XP machine. What's the best CPU and motherboard combo to buy used for it?

XP 64 build incoming.

System Restore was introduced in Windows Me, newfag

Things that are new and different are bad. Change my mind.

You can get infected by clicking on a link or loading malicious js (typically ad are doing it, even on chrome)

I swear, boomer memes have to be getting propagated to viral market monster energy at this point.

XP and office 2000

I'm looking to buy a retro xp machine, which one of these would be the best?

underrated

Yes, because you were born at least a decade after it was released.

Why not make a VM? Do you need a space heater right now?

33 yo boomer here. Windows98 SE was the last good OS.

self projecting so hard

Attached: u.jpg (198x198, 8K)

Hardware is always better than a VM. It's not about the end goal, it's about getting it all together, sourcing old parts and sticking them in. Getting your hands dirty, as it were. VMs are boring.

>he fell for the 20MB ram meme

can this become a meme

>Windows98 SE good OS
You can't even pull a USB stick out without it shitting the bed. Safely eject my arse.

>7 MHz Pentium
>20 MB RAM
Hello Bochs

It's true girlfriend. I stuck with XP until 2013ish because it seemed practical at the time but in hindsight was simply a case of Stockholm syndrome

XP coincided with literally everyone suddenly owning a PC and getting broadband. Technological equivalent of sending an AIDS patient into a leper colony

Attached: butitdo.jpg (641x700, 95K)

i mean if you upgraded on an ancient pc, then sure
xp ran well on anything at least with a 1ghz cpu and 512 mb of ram

>implying messenger was a bad thing

After 98 XP was Jesus reincarnated.

That's actually real. Someone got it to work with an underclocked Pentium Overdrive.

Only if you're on a desktop, which most would have been in the XP era, but still.

Yeah, ordinary ignorance is bad enough, but the hive mind pseudo-awareness is even worse.

Did you ever have the displeasure of that shit popping up every five seconds. It was somehow even worse on Vista.

IRC was better than that steaming pile of garbage

98 was pretty abysmal. Also, 2000 was the tits and you know it!

I want muh CRT back!

Not to mention the bogging down of the host machine.

What color depth? I want to say 4-bit but the dithering on the Papierkorb suggests 8. Really brings me back.

It is 4-bit.
