that would be sick, no more wasting my time playing shitty video games

Literal chaos. Banks stop functioning, stocks wouldnt exist, money becomes worthless.

I'd be 100% more productive.

this pretty much, and loads of other shit as well

Then all of my doomsday external harddrives will finally come in handy.
While you were busy saving up canned food and water I was backing up years worth of information and content.

Chaos and riots probably. People that keep their money in bank accounts would be fucked, people that keep their money in investments would be fucked. People would be bored because no youtube/reddit/Jow Forums.
I would probably start deploying a mesh net and setting up my own little internet for me and my friends. I already have most of the hardware, but the government doesn't take too kindly to you leaving boxes on utility poles everywhere. I'd probably disguise them as some utility thing and stick a high voltage and some warning stickers on them.
Same here. I don't have the space for years of food and water, but after the initial chaos dies down there will be a limited number of things with value. Weapons, ammunition, shelter, food, and the one nobody thinks about: pornography/intertainment.
I figure I'll hold out for a couple of months and set up like one of those old school places where you rent a booth and a movie to watch. By the time people are mostly safe they will realize they are missing their porn and TV, and I'll be there to trade it to them.

but you can play offline too

youre right guess i gotta go ted bundy now

>society didn't exist before internet

Doesn't Steam need to be connected online every month or so? So you can't copy a bunch of singleplayer games to another computer and give it to a friend without paying.
It might have, but people are so ingrained into being able to use Facebook and stream music at will. Not only would everything people do ALL DAY be taken away, but everyone's money would disappear instantly. Boredom aside, if everyone's money just stopped existing then there would be riots and people would be raiding stores.

Of course society existed before the internet you moron. But that doesn't mean that it won't collapse in on itself if the internet just stopped overnight.

Our modern society is built upon the pillars of the internet. It is entwined with it in every conceivable way for products and services ranging from the mundane to the literally astronomical. Removing it would result in a catastrophic collapse of said society down to a level lower than one we have seen within generations.

There would be anarchy until the reigns get back under someones control.

That would actually be more of a correction than anything considering the currency we use is mostly just worthless numbers that actually represent an amount owed to us that we can never actually get. And stocks are an even more convoluted system of IOUs.

its what this guy said , our society nowadays requires internet 24/7 since it has expanded into almost every service, pretty much everyone would enter in a panic in one way or another, some of them might even not know how to comunicate with others due to being used to internet just being there and used from everything they needed

.t retard

Retard. We're talking about the modern aspect of a society, where everything is digitalized. Money won't work, digital nor physical. Physical money is recorded through digitalization.

Anything that's essential for a modern society is digitalized, total chaos would be created.

This is one of the reasons I've resisted joining the streaming trend that is popular and common these days, and I still like actually downloading music/media or owning them physically (I have over 4TB of data, ~1TB of music, ~1TB of shows/movies, +1TB of pr0n, and other shit).

I like to feel like I actually "own" the thing and can transfer and access it whenever/wherever/however I want, instead of having to pay for some streaming service and connect to them to use it. Plus, it's often hard to find flac files online unless you buy the CD and rip it yourself, and you never know when a streaming service might pull content for legal reasons or their own whim.

An extinction level event is merely a correction, if you were to reduce it as such.

The internet as a whole is almost impossible to completely take down. Outages happen, but they are fixed relatively quickly. However, if the monopolies in the US continue to grow, it will become trivially easy to take out the entire country.

I'd finally be free of this shithole

I cannot believe that no one's posted the relevant Youtube video.

You guys are slipping.

I'd miss you guys.

>mfw spend a lot of time outside and without phone or computer already
i'd be fine until i need to buy shit. my friend group though, they can't live without the internet.

In the event of a total internet failure, you think your hard drive and computer are still working?

Very possible events that would make this happen are EMP attacks and the pole switch. Good luck with that.

There was a guy claiming he can take the whole thing down, cant recall his name atm

Well, I have comcast, so that's already the case half the time.

>he thinks he can eat hard drives
I'm not trading my can of green beans for a copy of wikipedia, dumbass. Good luck with that.

it's more than just that

nearly all money is electronic nowadays. when you go to the store all transactions and accounting and inventory have to be monitored electronically. they can't do paper and pencil math. how are you going to buy food without your credit card? they won't take cash and they'll say "we can't sell because we can't update inventory"

same with stockmarket and all that other shit. trucks aren't going to deliver food because no one can place the order. can't buy fuel either.

and most telephone is through internet now I think.

I wonder if utilities will stop because "we can't monitor usage to bill you"

probably what this guy said , except porn part
in the past, black market items were coffee, cigarettes, and butter.
