CRTs are still objectively better than any other display technology for retro content

CRTs are still objectively better than any other display technology for retro content.
You cannot deny this FACT.

I actually still like crt monitors for almost everything today, but I think crt tvs are kinda shit.
Too bad there aren't any 4k capable crts today.

But I have CRT simulation and scanline options

>CRTs are still objectively better than any other display technology for retro content.

I could just as well jam one of my jeweler's screwdrivers into my eye, and replicate the experience of eye fatigue.

Fuck year dude

What is that game called? It looks so familiar.

No, my 4K TV runs 90s games fine and probably consumes less on 50".

What are some quality 16:9 aspect ratio CRTs i could invest into?

LCD gay ass gook trash soulless technology meanwhile CRT real american tech gives off real kodachrome color vibes
GOD BLESS ALL

Looks like Metal Storm for NES

Enjoy your input lag.

Just enable no input lag on retroarch

Fun fact: I made the original CRT > LCD copypasta. AMA.

>projectors

Non-techie here.

I have a somewhat related question. Please help.

I want to replace my smart TV with either a "dumb TV" or a *large monitor*. Basically I am fed up and sick to death of being forced to see "sponsored apps" and "default apps" on my TV screen that I have absolutely no interest in whatsoever but cant remove because they're hardwired.
i deleted every app that i can. the rest are hardwired into the firmware or whatever and cant be delete, removed or disabled.

God dammit i don't want to see most of this shit they force my TV to display on the home screen. So now I just want to go back to a plain old dumb monitor.

Is there anywhere that still sells "dumb TVs" ?

Or, what is the largest PC monitor I can get and where?

I don't watch regular broadcast television or anything so I don't really need a smart tv anyways. I only need my tv to play console vidya, watch DVDs and Netflix and Amazon video, which I can run off my PS4

I don't want a smart tv if its loaded with offensive bloatware and shit that I cant get rid of.

>CRTs are still objectively better than any other display technology for retro content.
As long as you don't have to lift them. Big displays were FUCKING HEAVY.

>Is there anywhere that still sells "dumb TVs" ?
Tons of places just look the end low end models from whatever company. They are all without SMART functions, on the bad side you get less hook up inputs with the low end units, but you don't get a bunch of bloat "enhancement filters" which add input lag and other garbage.

My LCD had better black levels than my CRT

Threw the CRT in the trash

Thanks.

Some things to keep in mind be sure to get a TV with a matte screen while I am at it.
Panasonic VA panels
Samsung VA or IPS
SONY VA
LG IPS

ok thanks. i'll look for those. basically I just want a simple monitor screen that only displays the signals I input to it from devices like my comp or my video game consoles.

after owning smart tvs for a few years now, i notice they are becoming like carrier branded android cell phones, loaded with bloat ware apps for things that i absolutely despise

pretty much what i'd like to have is a 50" tv/pc monitor

My OLED has 20ms response time that is more than fast enough. That's 1 frame of input lag in a 60fps game. At that point any mistake you make is your own fault and you can't even pretend to blame it on 1 frame input lag unless you're doing a frame-perfect speedrun trick.

still no 1080p 240hz

This is the most brainless post i've ever seen

biggest lie i've ever read on g

If only it happened by the 90s as was planned bros.

There really is no "dumb" TVs anymore even low end TCL TVs have roku bulit in.
There really is no reason to get bent out of shape when it comes to smart TVs, just don't connect it to the internet and no you won't get shit randomly popping up when your using external input

Is it too late for some random millionaire to get em on the market? Would it even be economically viable?

There is a 4K "dumb" TV made by Seiki.

I miss Panasonic PLASMA's

It's Seiki which is already questionable.
If your buying a 4k TV that your going to hook to PC or want decent input lag only get a model where you have real information on input lag, HDMI version and 4:4:4 support

immature displays that were designed for by immature technology are best matched

>surprised

?????

So, show me that CRT that has a resolution of 1600x900.

I'm waiting.

I remember seting resolutions as high as 1800x1600 on my big ass CRT over a decade ago.

Then you haven't been around very long. Jow Forumsays will tell you the sky is green with little yellow polka-dots if it helps them win an argument or get more (You)s.

>80 year old technology is immature
KYS retard.

Pretty much every monitor 19"+ ever made?

Don't forget, most of the time it has to be NTSC because older video games had a tendency of half-assing the port to PAL and making the game run lower in order to hit 50 fps.
youtube.com/watch?v=nSSYo0npMhA

Also worth mentioning that old light guns (i.e. everything form NES Duck Hunt, to PS2 Time Crisis) only work on CRTs. So all of those old games are literally unplayable without one.

CRT simulation isn't perfect and scanline shaders aren't really that good. They are 'necessary' though because old school consoles actually relied on stuff like interlacing in order to create optical illusions like the transparency on Sonic's shield.

I'm not saying you're wrong to use those things but know that they're really just an approximate fix.

Worry more about the motion interpolation that comes enabled by default in smart TV's. These are algorithms that track pixels on the TV to compute motion vectors which it then uses to generate new intermediary frames (thereby increasing the framerate from 24 to 60). The 'soap opera effect' isn't the issue, rather it's that the algorithms can be buggy sometimes and create bizarre artifacts.
TV's also tend to enable a 'vivid' or 'dynamic' color mode that totally distorts the image to make it 'pop' more because people like how that looks. It's the same concept as the Loudness War for CDs, except for colors. Phones do this too (except the Google Pixel 2 who got a lot of blowback for actually using more realistic colors). Arguably you should disable this and get used to a normal color mode but it will take a while to get used to it.

CRTs are still used for competitive Melee. It's obvious they're the superior device for gayming.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

GOD BLESS JAPAN

640X480 IS OUR FUTURE

I would agree if they weren't so expensive.
>ask Mr. Goldenstein how much he wanted for his old 480 Hz CRT monitor
>1000 shekels
>excuseme.kgb

>CRTs are still objectively better than any other display technology
You should have stopped there.

>CRT simulation and scanline options
oxymoron

>Terrible upscaling
>Shit input lag
>Terrible motion clarity
Have fun pleb.

>taking a picture of your monitor
why not just screenshot??

BVM-D24E1WU or D32E1WU

>Fixed pixel shit
Fucking useless.
MicroLED will make this thing irrelevant.
FED could at least allow multisync but it had a lot of problems.

Green Lasers have recently become more affordable to produce so I hope some companies wake up and start producing Laser Scanning Projectors(that work like CRT's) so they can save us from the fixed pixel menace.

Are you shitting me?
1600x1200 was a common resolution.

>They are 'necessary' though because old school consoles actually relied on stuff like interlacing in order to create optical illusions like the transparency on Sonic's shield.
This is false.
Sonic's resolution was 240p which was Progressive scan and had nothing to do with Interlacing.

How else he prove it was a CRT?

Why that resolution specifically? CRTs can render arbitrary resolutions so I don't get the point you are making.

I have a Sony GDM manufactured in september 1999 that can render 2048x1536 or 1800x1440 natively, the Hitachi superscan series were pushing out 1,920,000 dots in 1995, it's not some secret, there were good and bad monitors before the LCD plague

makeitsimple.com/reviews/hitachi_751/

Will we ever see non-fixed pixel displays again?
Also, fuck 16:9...TV's should have stayed 4:3 and Monitors maybe 16:10/3:2/4:3

I really hate movietards...they ruined everything for us.

>for retro content.
Nobody has ever denied that.

Attached: 1509246898217.jpg (450x435, 28K)

>Sony GDM
the point is more HZ + res thou now I think

sure a crt might be able to do 1800x1600 or 2048x1536 which is QHD but if it can only do it at 60hz that's pretty trash today.

I used CRT at 1k 1024x768 120hz but would like other options if they exist and are easy to find but not sure.

for 2D where fps=Hz (i.e. 60 fps locked for non-yurofags), CRTs are still top notch thanks to lowest possible lag.

We are probably not that many years away though from being able to emulate CRT "feel" on a sufficiently high-res/low-lag strobed flat display though.

This.

SED would've just been a slightly better alternative to plasma and would've died the same death to cheap LCDs and better OLED.

If you're /vr/ you need a CRT. This is not up for debate.
If you're literally anyone else I don't know what you need one for.

I actually prefer sharp pixes with retro games but I use a CRT anyway because that's what Jow Forums tells me to do

Attached: 1531402150368.jpg (618x800, 201K)

Does anyone actually have fun playing old games? Please explain to me how a "retro" gaming session goes. For me it's like this

>Oh I used to like that game
>Play for 5 minutes
>Hmm, I need to do this, this and that
>Yknow this isn't as interesting as it was when I was 5
>Retro gaming session over

Considering that, I don't think it's worth it to be tied down to a 200 lb TV

LCD are not getting faster response time thou they are branded 1ms now but only beacuse they changed the way they messure them LCD in like 1998 where technically 1ms by this new mesurment as well.

in reality even best lcd is like 15ms lag at crosshair.
