webdev

are you a female minority? if not, consider other career choices

No, coding will learn you

I'm also a high school dropout and I don't even know how many credits I have or what my GPA is because I don't give a fuck and I work at a dollar store making minimum wage. I'm pretty good with C and ARM assembly (RiscOS has great docs on this). You can learn how to program if you have a 90+ IQ and you focus hard on it.

Nigga do you mean 0.85 out of 4?
I'd say go be a lumberjack or another trade, but I wouldn't trust you with a kitchen knife.

Anyone who has the time and patience to learn it can do it.
Just be ready to use basic problem solving.

Why would you do this to yourselves?

>.85 gpa
You are only good for shilling companies like applel, microshaft or goyvideo.

I chose the lumberjack class. Pretty op in my opinion

edx.org has some free courses. You can also buy books on the languages you want to learn, copy the code and do the exercises (this is how I got started, though I eventually did go to college for a degree). Your local community college might also have some good and cheap courses anyone can take. I recently took a non-credit certification exam prep course for the price of dinner at an upscale restaurant at mine, but it also offers courses in several programming languages.

>.85 gpa
What?

Just start selling crack. You'll probably end up in prison eventually anyway.

no, but you can into managment

This is what happens when you play hookie. You don't get a gpa lower than 1.5 if you show up to classes.

I mean maybe? Was your gpa that low because you were a brainlet or just never applied yourself?

>YNOTBOTH?

Srsly, you can do it if you focus and want to do it, people care more about your code than your GPA.

technically yes, you can do it if you put your mind to it. but no one will hire you unless you get lucky or do something amazing to prove yourself.

go to trade school. be a plumber, electrician, or HVAC cuck and achieve something realistic and objectively good

I hear the same things about trades. People say they wanna hire minorities or kids fresh out of high school. Everybody has a different opinion

You guys are weak, I'm a middle school drop out who was homeless for 5 years. I could still probably hack it if I put any effort it. But I won't because deep down I know I'm a worthless piece of shit who should have died from opiod overdoses eons ago. I'm living, ironically.

uhh
thats a yikes from me

Yes, but the cool kids call it "programming".

i don't know what kind of liberal shit hole you live in, but no one wants to hire minorities where i live.

I have a 1.1 university GPA and flunked out after 3 semesters
If I can do it, you can do it too

This.
I finished HS at 21 and got a job at 23 as a web dev, this was 2 years ago.
And it is so fucking stressful and painful I'm honestly thinking of getting into trade school and learn some shit, I don't give a fuck if I start earning half the money, but you lost kids don't have any idea what you are getting into, in most jobs you are some sort of devops nigger, between giving support to pajeets that barely write english screaming "FIX ASAP, LOSING MONEY!", and maintaining fucking spaguetti code with all the possible bad practices you could possibly find, where everything is broken, while you feel the pressure to fix a bug while probably introducing new ones because it is impossible to fix without rebuilding the whole damn thing from scratch, even the unit tests are a mess and fucking hell to write for that generally untestable code. A nightmare in every sense, webdev is cancer.
Unless you become an engineer and you can work for a decent company with good politics and practices, stay away from "coding", don't say I didn't warn you.

Can you learn to code in some form? Probably. However it's not about whether you can code, but whether you can survive on the job when introduced to constant time constraints and a need to learn new things on the fly. Whether you can do this while also navigating the social/political work culture. Whether you can quickly produce maintainable work that won't create constant bugs, especially in production. Are you prepared to be accountable for software that will be relied on by thousands, if not millions of people?

You can still be smart despite a shit GPA. If you have good reason to believe you're intelligent and could be happy in the above mentioned environment, THEN I'd recommend it. But even with an average IQ I'd say it can be a pretty demanding job. If you have big doubts you might want to aim for something easier to learn since your job will likely be easier to do, in turn. It's better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond OP.

Also if you do decide to become a programmer, go for a good CS degree. No associates meme bullshit, bootcamps, whatever. Sure they can produce results to some effect but a degree is your best bet and should be the thing you're aiming for. Not only should the quality of your education be better, but your job prospects too.

Are you sure it's webdev as a whole user? Especially since it's your first job, they were probably the type of company desperate for a new hire with weak schooling because they couldn't retain the more seasoned ones. Now that you have more experience you could probably start looking for something better soon, or that's what I'd think.

I would be much, much more concerned about people having 1.5 GPA's and great school attendance than someone like OP who may have a lower score but could at least be presumed to have been hustling or living some incredibly odd lifestyle.

The more seasoned ones in the company that earn 3 or 4 times my salary also complain about this things, the difference is that they are better programmers and handle more important projects, but with the same core problems.
>you could probably start looking for something better soon, or that's what I'd think
Perhaps, but I'm not sure I want it anymore, and most companies for interesting positions ask for university education, which I can't afford.
I'm thinking of maybe getting into some low-level shit since is more niche and more of my liking, haven't had luck so far anyway getting any interviews, without a degree it is difficult.

It's not their fault they're niggers

what the fuck how can you not even have a highschool diploma. You basically just have to show up.

As for advice, get your GED and start taking classes at your community college. Learn how to work hard and you can be successful at any subject. You have an uphill battle of your own design but it's not impossible.

How is that an excuse? I'm a nigger and lazy as fuck yet could still manage above a 3.0 back in high school

1.3 GPA reporting in

Not him but some people legit don't give a fuck about their education or having any sort of quality of life. You being a nigger you should know this better than anyone. That said how someone can't graduate high school is beyond me. I assume they're either incredibly retarded or had a fucked up childhood.

I had a 0.95 at the end of my first semester. Now around 2.8

Oh wait you said high school not college. Nvm then, you're fucked.

females have to be minority as well to guarantee a job?
wew lad. hard times.

I am 48 years of age. Can I learn coding?

Go to trades. My friend dropped out and makes 100k with his Roofing company

I finished CS bachelor last year and the best programmers were the "dumber" ones. The best ones all failed 2nd year basis calculus and had to keep redoing them all the way to year 4. The best programmers imo are the ones that see it as a hobby and do side projects in their free time. The more you code the better you are.

More like just a neet and got bullied or something and was to much of a pussy to go to school.

Unless you get into really good school, which OP is not, CS degrees are a complete joke. You end up learning half the shit on your own anyway.

you get access to internships, group projects, networking. Plus some people learn better in a structured environment, also most companies demand a bachelor's degree. You don't need to go to harvard to get all of that.

not op

>high school
>try hard

tl;dr go to the library like in that movie and take adderal so you can survive this crazy world. im going to community college now so that i can get a programming degree. believe me half the class will be 1/4 your iq so dont feel intimidated if you can afford to go

Doesn't sound like you can learn much of anything.

I don't see why not. I'm also a high school dropout with a

>gpa
Is this an American thing ?

everyone could technically code

If you pour your heart into it.
