because they felt it was time to grow up and stop using an obsolete ui

The classic theme disabled compositor and that was needed for some of their new shit that no one uses.
like what
The Metro/Modern apps and the new start screen.
you made me regret having a 1TB file mess on my windows 8.1 machine
can I get rid of windows 8 start screen somehow by using classic shell?
There are 3rd party programs that restore the start menu, so that's not a problem from the standpoint of functionality.
The real problem is that the new login screen needs the compositor too. Microsoft thoroughly fucked up this one.
Since it uses more resources than not using it.
Since Vista GDI acceleration hasn't existed, so using the 'classic theme' did nothing but use more CPU resources to draw the UI. (although it would lower VRAM usage)
Upgrade to Windows ten by using your win8 license key. Problem solved
I still don't get why there's no way to disable vsync without enabling the classic theme. It makes some older games with no fullscreen have horrible stutter on anything modern.
done
Fix your systray, hippie
