I'm not into webdev. I've never been into webdev.
That said, I do remember everyone shitting on PHP back in '09 and nobody talked about it by 2015. For a while all the companies where looking for JS devs, particularily those who knew React, Angular or whatever the fuck was the new shiny thing.
Now I'm seeing a bunch of companies looking for PHP devs. What happened?

I usually treat a language as a tool. I don't hate a tool, I use tools. However I have PHP for several reasons:
Top language for shitty code
You usually don't program PHP you modifiy or try to fix PHP shit no one wants to create brand new PHP code unless you have brain damage
Language has so many holes that you never know the result
Programming PHP is like a declaration of intention: you give PHP what you want and PHP do whatever it wants

The core reason why nobody writes web applications in C is how insecure it is. You really don't want your site to be vulnerable to buffer overflow attacks and other shit C enables.
PHP is only a bit better in this regard. And it's really no C, and neither is JavaScript.
Speaking of which, given that it was originally intended to be a dialect of scheme, JavaScript is best treated as a functional language with optional side effects, like a lisp without the metaprogramming.
Just that it places function arguments inside parentheses and code blocks inside curly brackets doesn't make it a C.

PHP, Python, and JavaScript are all terribly designed programming languages, and Python may be the worst of the three.
PHP gets some credit because most PHP programmers at least acknowledge that it's shit. Node startup soibois and especially Pythonistas, on the other hand, tend be ignorant and delusional, honestly believing JS and Python are good for anything other than browser shit or small scripts, respectively.
