been using windouws 7 for like a decade now and dont really have much reason to change, but im thiking of trying windows 8 because fuck windows 10.
does 8 have any features that are worth the upgrade? are older games like max payne harder to run? one of the biggest reasons im still on 7 is because some older games are kind of a bitch to run but i can at least get them to work.

The UI in Windows 8 is absolute trash. Perhaps try windows 8.1. But if you don't like 10, it is basically a more polished 8.1. I'm not sure if the basic update system is closer to 7 or 10, and for me that is a big deal (fuck auto-updates)

Windows 8.1 is just fine as long as you don't update past 1709 (that's the windows 10 update at least, check for the corresponding win 8 update).
People say you need the updates for security, but MS keeps breaking the security AND the stability of the OS. So just don't bother.

I've been using Windows 8.1 for a long time now and I can't complain. It feels much quicker and more stable than Windows 7 to me. People didn't like it because of the Metro UI but I don't get it because you don't have to use it. Can't even remember the last time I've seen the UI.
The only downside was the missing start menu but I use Start8 from Stardock for that. It costs like 5$ and it perfectly replicates a windows start menu and it's very customizable.
