Jow Forums told me that all CS jobs are going to India...

Jow Forums told me that all CS jobs are going to India, it's a race to the bottom and that the field is over-saturated and that I should go into a trade instead.

Are they right? Is a CS degree a waste of time?

yes. go and become a plumber or something.

They are sort of right, but I suppose the skill level aligns just to normal distribution, and if you become high-skilled, they you'll be paid highly.
Just like in any other field.

Indian CS and IT is a literal bubble, they're shitting out more grads than they can reasonably pay

Do you have your own brain or do I have to think for you? I can do that, but first you have to pay me for this exclusive service. I can give you even a 10% off the regular price, because I like you OP.

do your research, do you really want to get into CS? do it , if it is your natural hability do it, if it's your passion do it if you are just looking for a good career path wait, do your research first and don't get memed on

If your only looking at CS as a career path, don’t bother. No one wants to hire a someone who doesn’t have any interest in what they specialize in.

Otherwise there’s a huge market for skilled developers.

Jow Forums thinks the Holocaust didn't happen, planes spread chemicals across the US, global warming isn't real, and we didn't go to the moon. CS is the only field where the number of job openings per year is greater than the number of graduates per year.

This lol. Jow Forums is a Nazi containment board filled with angry lonely white males who's favorite hobby is getting their info from jpg images

Spotted the libcuck

u mad

the y also spread wikileaks so much that trump got elected and even took wisconsin lol

I listened to Jow Forums and instead of university I went to college instead of uni (because uni has mandatory divershitty, SJWs and forced dog therapy/wymyn stydyys indoctrination) and now I work as a CAD draftsman. No one respects me and I have no hope of moving up. I am also more likely than anyone to become automated by pajeet. I am 28 now and I spend every day regretting that I wasted my life and fell for memes.

This.

Why the fuck would you believe anything Jow Forums says? Half of the board is literally schizo retards.

That was Russia, not pol.

>He's scared of competing with literal street shitters

At the end of the day you have to do what you like. Just make sure that you have a backup plan. Get that degree and internship. Maybe you can't be that AAA game developer so you should try to become a qa guy or a tech help guy if that doesn't work out. Never give up and give it your all. If it doesn't work out then you can die knowing that at least you tried.

Jow Forumslocks are literally all unemployable. Why listen to them?

This. I'm conservative but the conspiracy retardation on Jow Forums is too much. If Jow Forums says CS degrees are a meme they're probably pretty good.

I suspect a large part of Jow Forums's hate for CS degrees is jealousy.

>Jow Forums told me
go back to your containment board

It's actually because the field is high paying and has a huge diversity focus. Making affluent minorities is a recipe for Jow Forums anger.

Might as well be Jow Forums then

You have a much bigger problem on your hands: you listen to fucking Jow Forums for life guidance

I've literally lost contracts before because "why should we hire you when we can get a whole team of Indians?" None of these places I would have been happy working for for other reasons I noticed during the interviews and meetings so take that for what it is

Yup, Jow Forums can actually be right sometimes.

>work In CS
>don't even have a degree in CS
>get paid gud
>mfw I originally learned it as a hobby

People were saying this like 10+ years ago. Outsourcing software projects is a lot harder than it seems for most companies. Agile development is standard, and requirements change frequently. Daily standups and frequent deadlines are common. Hell, even having some people work from home could lead to communication problems sometimes.

Rather than western software projects going to India, I'd say that it's more like Indian / Chinese / other foreign nationals are looking to come to the US, typically to the big companies that can sponsor VISAs so they can stay because there are more interesting opportunities and higher pay. This is slowing down due to Trump making it harder to get H1B's. A lot of international students would come to the US on a student VISA to do a masters, take advantage of OPT and get an H1B.

A lot of small and medium tech companies, especially those outside of California, look for local candidates since sponsoring H1Bs costs several thousand dollars which they would rather spend on other things. I think there will always be plenty of software jobs for local candidates.

The only thing you should worry about, is if you're stagnating. Are your skills easily replaceable? Do you not care about improving your code quality?

There's a stereotype that pajeet software developers, especially those in enterprise jobs, just view their job kind of like shift work. Go in, write code, leave, and don't think about code in your spare time. Code monkey stuff. Not all of them, but many.

So you have to ask yourself, are you in a pajeet state of mind? As in, do you not engage in continuous learning and improvement? Do you not program as hobby for atleast a few hours a week outside of work, experimenting with new tech? Are you just thinking about your 9-5 now, but not about improving your leadership and business communication skills for your overall career advancement?

>A lot of international students would come to the US on a student VISA to do a masters, take advantage of OPT and get an H1B.

I'm Irish and this is my dream. Its either that or get a job in Leafland and hope to get sponsorship across the border for a H1B

The H1B system is bullshit for workers. A company will wait until you sign a salary agreement then turn around and demand that you pay for the cost of the H1B license out of your pocket. It is even scummier for megacorps like Microsoft since they will do that and then turn around to the US gov't and demand a bulk license discount. Citizenship or bust.

Yep pretty much. Enroll in trade school user, leave the CS/IT stuff to us ok?

Most people are aware of that, but H1B is one of the few immigration visas or path to citizenship for tech workers.

>implying any of us have the social skills to marry for a green card

Bump

CS is fine. Just don't suck. Put in the effort.

I just think you deserve better man. Hope you don't get socked by Brexit.

I'm not Irish user, actually a leaf. We have the TN visa (although that may not last long because of Trump tearing up NAFTA) which allows for Canadians to work in the states

But still, H1B is one of the few paths to citizenship.

You can just pay someone to perform a marriage. It doesn't have to be legit. Hell I'd do it myself.

So you started college when you were 21? Jow Forums's only been around since 2011, before then /b/ was basically Jow Forums but with even more porn and fewer religious people

To be fair, degrees in computer """science""" are mostly worthless, and simply a badge that lets unskilled Indians or Chinese people trick employers into thinking they can be useful

For people like me with poor school grades, no networking or social skills and a bad work history it helps. I need college not just for the degree but for the internships and networking potential.

My computer science degree came with 2 years paid internship (5 year degree with 3 full years school). So nah, not all CS degrees are worthless.

Fuck off you non third worlder! We don't want your kind here anymore!

>getting advice from Jow Forums
career choice will be the least of your worries, tardo

Would consider as last resort but would be paranoid about being caught and locked out forever

there are 1.2 billion pajeets and 1.4 billion chinks learning to code RIGHT NOW, that's 2.6 billion poor as fuck third worlders that will do your job for less.

I live in San Diego CA which is very nice but also the largest military area I'm aware of. Navy, Air Force, Marines are all here. And it seems like every technology company that is based here is a government contractor of some sort. Lockheed, Northrop, Boeing, Booz Allen to name some of the bigger players. Countless smaller ones. Almost all of them require you to be a born US citizen and the people in those places are pretty redpilled. These places are admittedly not as "fun" as some Silicon Valley tech giant that will treat you like a child and give you a ball pit to play in.

Aside from those types of jobs, smaller companies are reluctant to hire foreigners and there will always be a need for on-site IT administrators. Especially at companies that aren't technology related.

Trades in comparison are much harder to get into but can be good if you have the right connections. Most people I know that are successful in trades had their dads get them into the union.

The job market, at least in my area, is quite good. The markets outside of Silicon Valley generally are.

A lot of

If you can't compete against pajeets you shouldn't be doing CS

It's hard to compete with pajeets when your boss is a pajeet and he has an agenda to hire only pajeets.

Launch your own business to compete with said pajeet boss then? It's not hard if you're not a brainlet. This is a free country, you know

Bump

No, because you could always get hired as a teacher if you can't find work elsewhere. The Chinese would love someone to teach them robotics (plenty of private schools that only hire whitey btw)

All the pajeets (3 total) who worked with us were let go this year. They couldn't port 150 lines of jQuery to ES6 in one month. I had to be pulled off another project to do it (took 2 days, was literally just changing .ajax to .fetch requests).
OP if you are capable of the bare minimum abstract thought and critical thinking i wouldnt worry about this.

Maybe in Burgerland.
I get 3 job offers daily.

employers are wising up though, that's why the interview process for technical jobs is long these days, they can't trust CS degrees anymore

I'd say it is. Become an electrician or anything related to working with power. The future is going to be automated and everything uses power

Omly relevant degrees these days is tranny studies amd heritage

>Unironically believing the russia narrative.
Fucking hell what did the russians even do that you can actually point at that isn't just hot air out of the (((media))) you gippy sped?
