If he did not take his meds he was a loose cannon. The meds WORKED but they DO pretty much erase your personality for the duration of the effect.

Ultimately, he got a medicinal weed card and smoke 24/7 pretty much. His parents allow it because it’s pretty much the only thing that works.

So yeah, the meds are pretty much required in cases of severe mental illness. Caretakers can only do so much.
