Is that you Mr. Braun?

I'm not white so no

Because no one makes CRTs. No one.

Goodwill not only doesn't sell them, they don't even accept them for donation anymore where I am. They tell you to take them to some recycling center. I haven't seen any come up on my town's Craigslist either, presumably because nobody thinks they can get any money from them.

i threw one in the trash the other day
working perfectly desu
i enjoyed throwing it on the pavement as hard as i could :)

>things that never happened
Video proof or it didn't happen.

because it's not the fucking 90s anymore and I don't sit around playing 16/32-bit emulators all fucking day
get a job

I mean, I do still have my Atari SC1435 with an RGB SCART mod packed away somewhere, but I could always see the 50Hz/60Hz flicker on CRTs right from when I was a child in the early 80s and it bugged me.

LCDs look better, they're sharper, as long as you get one with a decent backlight, relatively short g2g times, good colour fidelity and good viewing angles (so not a TN panel, go with a decent IPS variant I guess; my current panel is P-MVA but getting very long-in-the-tooth and I should replace it when it dies, I'm just loathe to give up 16:10) they're better for everything except playing retro games, and CRT filters on a high-res LCD do an okay job of making them look like they should without that darned flicker.

LCDs lack soul, just like touch screens.

no 1080p 240hz

Ummmm sweaty.....

>sweaty
kek

Also. Because they are huge, heavy, each too much electricity, give you eye strain, can't do 4K and are dead technology.

if i wanted to listen to a high pitched whining noise i would just go to my sister's house

I have several

tacky setup, try to find a woman to help you with that shit

because only hipster faggots cling to old obsolete tech from yesteryear under the guise of superiority

Not him but it's but tacky at all, that's exactly what an advertisement would look like honestly if they were still selling

you don't mix warm and cold lighting without purpose
this is mixed without purpose

I didn't even notice the cold lighting at all, even then it still looks pretty good, if he just turned it off it would be perfect

>you don't mix warm and cold lighting without purpose
lmao get a load of this idiot

Its an RGB LED strip, I can have it as warm or cold as I like.

Can't get them anymore at reasonable prices.

I miss the days when everyone was using shitty LCD screens and I was rocking a professional grade CRT which used to cost a couple grand just few years ago that I bought for $100. I kind of regret throwing them out as they died instead of trying to get them fixed.

are you an elementary school computer science teacher or something?

>You STILL don't own a CRT. Why?
more like currently don't own a CRT and I'm glad I don't. My first CRT was a 4-color CGA monitor and I've had plenty of CRTs monitors and TV's since then. I'm glad they were replaced by better technology and if I never see one again then that's fine by me. I sure as hell ain't going to own one again.

I'm honestly slightly amazed that these threads exist. I do wonder, and I'd like some honest answers, how old are you girls who actually think CRTs are cool? I suspect young as in too young to have grown up with these things. Like.. I had the Commodore 64 connected to a TV. I see no good reason to have that again (slightly annoyed that my parents threw that and my stereo and almost everything else I boxed up when I went to the army away because "it took up space")

Software developer, that meeting room was empty and boring AF before.

>4K

Summer is over in a few days, pal.

What?
People are still throwing them out as trash.
About five months ago I got a 19" LaCie ElectronBlue II for free, same with a 32" widescreen Panasonic Quintrix TV a couple months ago. In fact, I probably saw around 20-30 CRT TVs in the garbage around that time, because people were "upgrading" them en masse to watch the world cup

How do I find CRT monitors that cheap? I'm talking 1600x1200 or higher. Do I have to just settle with paying extra?

I don't want a garbage 14 inch CRT, I want something good, and that's not something people here ever really owned privately when it was new, and all the stock from companies/import dried out a few years ago.

Might be different in the US, but here it's over.

I have 3x of these in storage. they do 120hz 1024x768 and with the shitty inbuilt filtering off actually look good. hard to set the right settings thou I set it to 100% all color lightframe3 off (filter thing) and 100% brightness and 58% contrast and it looks pretty good.

Attached: 5d9e29384c59a5b683fcf.jpg (800x1288, 187K)

kinda wana collect more but not sure what to look for. I wouldn't mind enough to keep using them for rest of my life. I figure the 3 I have will get too old or dim or some thing in 2040.

Looking for something cool and from the 80s like your pic. I wonder if my college will ever get rid of the CRTs they still have mounted in some rooms.

The ElectronBlue (1600x1200@85Hz) I got from a friend at a computer store. Gave me the color calibrator and everything. The TV I just saw sitting outside a mom and pop consumer electronics store, and since I know they take away old stuff for recycling, I asked if they were going to throw it away. At first they looked at me weird, but then I mentioned I wanted it for watching LaserDiscs, and something clicked inside of them and gave it to me. I think the word "LaserDisc" reminded them of the days where they actually sold stuff. I'll go buy some SCART cables from them next time I'm around.
>19" LaCie ElectronBlue
>color calibrated display, eats Trinitrons for breakfast and shits cheapo monitors after digesting them
>garbage 14 inch CRT
I sadly don't have any good pics of the LaCie, since it's at my workshop. I hope this one does the trick.

Got another one of these Phillips CM8833's. This one has already had its flyback transformer replaced once.

Attached: amiga-1200.jpg (4000x6000, 3.69M)

What's with the insulation in Philips components breaking down over time?
I swear, I haven't ever seen a Philips capacitor that wasn't at least a bit leaky, and pretty much all Philips displays get arcing in their flybacks at some point in their life.
Here's my recently acquired LC (I call her "Elsie") hooked up to an LG so-called "StudioWorks" display. It sucks major ass at anything over 800x600, but damn does it look nice at 640x480.

Attached: IMG_20180902_002650.jpg (2560x1920, 2.39M)

heaps from like 1995-2005 can do 1600x1200 but only at like 75-85hz.

you can get hdmi-to-vga adaptors with only 0.2ms of lag but they only say they can do 85hz but im not sure if that's because that's the windows limit and the guy testing it doesn't know you can set custom res in nvidia drivers for 120hz 1024x768 which all decent ones from this period can do as well.

by decent im mean like 80% from this period only ones that wouldn't would be super cheap ones not from dell/hp/apple/brands that really had designs from the 80s and early 90s.

just look on gumtree and craigslist etc maybe join some facebook groups of people trading old stuff and will have 60-70 year olds with old stuff in their house or shed.

I found mine from a old man that owned a video editing studio. most people that buy them just buy them to take the copper out of them so they really only worth like 5-10$ or some thing. but I usually offer 20$ for their time/effort moving it around their house.

some people have said that in some big US cities the prices have gone up to 100-200$ I wouldn't pay that and instead drive to a suburb or some thing people prob just trying ot profiteer of hipster/arcade cabinet people

heres the adaptors I found second one is tested at 85hz but wouldn't be suprized if both can do it.

hdmi
1.0?
goods ruten com tw/item/show?21511620812537#info

1.4?? 85hz
goods ruten com tw/item/show?21550341238699

haven't tested them my self but will get one when I upgrade from my 980 4g that doesn't need one.

these adaptors only cost like 30$ not sure about the cheap cable ones I think they might only be able to do 60hz and lag more they are like 5-10$. a crt adaptor that can only do 60hz is basically useless.

Well, this is beautiful, I might even make it my wallpaper.

CRT's take like 20 seconds to turn on though even though I own them
Holy shit is that a vectrex?
Does it work?

Well spotted on the Vectrex.

They're just cheaply made, that's all.

Attached: repair.jpg (6000x4000, 1.61M)

Hey guys how do I fix an apple II monitor? The green kind?

I turned it on once before but now it's busted

the room would be shit-tier without it.

The vectrex is holding the whole thing together.

>hey guys how do I fix my car? Yesterday I drove it but now it won't start.
Give symptoms fgt

Yeah, it works. Its beginning to need a recap though, tube takes a little while to warm up.

Attached: vectrex.jpg (960x1280, 199K)

Still faster than my flatscreen TV turns on...

One of your clocks is wrong.

So fucking envious.

I got at least six CRTs including a fuckhuge 65" TV that used to be in my grandparents' living room. All of them are pre V-chip, too.

They're nothing but fat niggers who hog space and take a shitload of time to deal with. Eventually I'm just going to drop them onto craigslist for free and hope someone takes them, but they'd need a truck.

The CRT itself presumably works, but something popped along the way

I'm guessing some sort of capacitor or fuse.
Even if I did know the problem, I doubt I could fix it

While I'm rummaging around inside I'm tempted to sort out all the noise from the tube on the audio circuits.

I part exchanged a PS2 and N64 for this thing about 10 years ago now.

Attached: DSC00349.jpg (6000x4000, 2.63M)

I own about 30.

>You STILL don't own a CRT. Why?
because I value my eyesight

Can I play too?
>inb4 that guy saying I only use the thing as a dumb terminal
Yes, it's telnetting into my homeserver.

Attached: IMG_20180902_005233.jpg (2560x1920, 2.13M)

I have the same CRT TV that I grew up with.
Donated my old Philips CRT monitor though.

I'm working on a new shitpost machine too, started on the software this weekend.

Attached: IMG_20180829_203549.jpg (3490x2019, 1.02M)

I use one of those monitors for VHS, DVD, and digital TV broadcasts because muh S-Video.

Not a big fan of 5150s ever since people started fawning over muh model f and LGR singlehandedly creating a new scalping market on accident

Wait, you're giving a Minitel wi-fi?

That's an AT. 5170.

>tfw minitel is so cheap but the shipping is so expensive

could have gotten one of these for £20 but didn't think I would be able to make use of it

Any advice getting this thing going?

Attached: 1535032501903.jpg (849x1200, 138K)

Thanks for the recommendations on adapters, though I have a DVI-A port on my graphics card, so I could use that or a VGA to DVI-A passthrough adapter

Its a 5170, and LGR acquired one not too long after I started posting mine around the net.

You can turn it into a serial terminal with a USB serial adaptor and a few passive components to switch from 3.5 to 5v logic. You could also chop the French T plug off and replace it with an RJ11, you can then dial into a few third party Minitel servers like Jalora's.

Attached: droste3.jpg (4000x6000, 3.59M)

Yep, at the minimum it will make it a stand-alone telnet client, if my motivation holds out it will have a full blown Jow Forums client.

route it through a hardware-enabled vpn router in order to make it a spooky cyberpunk ghost machine

There's no widescreen CRTs

FW900

>you don't mix warm and cold lighting without purpose
Well this nigga apparently did. What's wrong with it? Don't you have shoes to talk about on /fa/?

FW900 sucks though. Don't fall for it, go for a decent 4:3.

I don't know what you're on about. My CRT has better colors than any LCD I own, and can actually display black properly.

CRT forever.

Attached: sc.jpg (1100x825, 135K)

yer prob keep using that in 3-5 years when you get a new gpu there will prob be ones that do every res/hz at 0.2ms lag for like 20$.

Attached: 28hd96_02.jpg (683x455, 30K)

Are you actually retarded?

Is the only way to get my Wii to output RGB to use SCART and convert that to BNC?

Attached: 1508530227724.jpg (4032x3024, 1.19M)

um, honey, i had a dozen CRTs before you were even born

Just hook up the SCART to the input in your TV.
Oh, wait. You're probably American.

>Doesn't know how PVMs connect

Attached: 1532760910912.jpg (1280x720, 91K)

for the same reason i don't use gas lamps in my home

>doesn't know every single European CONSUMER set from 1987 to 2016-ish has a SCART connection capable of RGB, composite in/out and in later sets, S-Video
Stay cucked, murilards

nigga all my tv's are CRT. Never bought into that HDTV meme.

>Consumer set
Why would you use this when you can get infinitely superior PVMs?

Attached: 1510412807616.png (1280x718, 2.35M)

>I'm glad they were replaced by better technology
>better technology

Attached: 20180901_151155.jpg (2016x1512, 388K)

I mean most of my games are done through emulations so how would I connect the HDMI cable from my laptop?

Attached: it's a mystery.gif (400x135, 4K)

Good luck getting your computer to output 240p. Just buy a Wii.

Because apart from the HR, fine pitch and multisync PVMs, they use the same tubes as consumer Trinitrons. And there were consumer HR Trinnies (made when Sony tried to push ED Beta, for example) Your picture shows this, in fact.
HDMI to VGA adapter, stay away from 15KHz garbage.
Fuck off back to with your meme PVMs and your 240p. Line-doubled 240p on a VGA display will always look a thousand times better than anything in the 15KHz domain.

>line doubling
Might as well just play on an LCD at that point

You keep justifying your overpriced PVMs, fattie. I'll be here enjoying RGB on my 32" widescreen Quintrix I got for free.

>You keep justifying
>Has done nothing but justify consumer grade CRT's
Jow Forums autism on full display here

I did and then I put it in the fucking garage. This was 10 years ago.
They may look nice for certain things but fucking hell get practical man.

because LCDs are better? duh?

I own_ed_ them decades ago. Time to get with the times kid.

hmm
see HMMMM

I don't own a CRT any more, you mean. I had several when they were current, but they aren't in 2018.

>practical

user please I'm still rocking an samsung SGH-A667,actually just tried upgrading my service plan to include internet but later found out my phone can't even connect to the web anyway

Attached: Samsung Evergreen.png (830x467, 528K)

What about component? RCA to BNC adapters are super cheap.
