That's how selling these things usually happen. The market for out of date hobbyist laptop is small, and the abundance of these laptops and their parts makes it a buyer's market.
So you should just hold on to them, advertise in as many places as possible and then slowly move the inventory when possible.
And you're right, offering upgrading services (ram, hdd to ssd, etc) may help move product.
