Yeah unstable OS...
So me and the wife got matching cheapo laptops about six-seven months ago, and windows updates absolutely wrecked them both repeatedly. Wouldn't boot into desktop. Had to keep active backup drives just for the updates.
Switched to linux mint and instantly just werks. Been a couple months and the stability has literally taken stress out of my life. I do miss some software (see my post about the midi controller above) but on the other hand the OS doesn't shit itself to death every two weeks...
And startup has improved Immensely. Programs that check for updates in Linux do so when you run them rather than auto loading into startup mode and requiring me to fuck with settings to stop that shit. Steam comes to mind right off the bat. So if I wanna just use my web browser on my linux laptop I boot it up and Insta do it, where on windows desktop every startup is five mins of bullshit before I can finally maybe use my fucking computer for anything.

Wrecked as in the fucking thing doesn't work without a full backup and restore. The time of the updates doesn't matter, we set that shit to middle of the night/early morning and would just wake up to dead computers.
And startup what distro we're you using a different how terrible was your hardware? I'm running a dam ex a9 9420 with a slow ass HDD (not even the 7000rpm models) and mint is ready fast as hell. Meanwhile my desktop takes forever...and this isn't just logging in either, windows has always been a real whores about running unnecessary shit at startup. Just because you see your desktop doesn't make the fucker useable for several more minutes. Mint doesn't do that to me, when desktop loads it's ready to go, and it loads alot faster than the preinstalled win 10 ever did.
If I could get away with it software/driver wise I'd use it on both machines. If steam keeps the momentum up and I get my midi set up I damned well will too.

OpenSUSE, Kubuntu, and Ubuntu all have flashing text error messages at startup. Missing this, wrong that. Complete stock installations with all updates, mind you.
