I don't know, it's always been pretty niche. The new Blade Runner didn't get as much attention as the first so it hasn't really broken into the mainstream. Maybe Cyberpunk 2077 can change that, but I feel like it'll be a one-hit wonder for the genre.
Hudson Scott
What projects are you working on?
I'm currently working on a CyberDeck, I'm using a Commodore 64 case and inside I'm going to have a bup doc corn bounce sasd laol erwg the ccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc
Thing about Cyberpunk is that it gets tacky with the overobsession with 1980s imagery and tech that didn't come to be, but a lot of elements of it are actually 100% true today and I think cyberpunk as we imagine it will slowly meld into a general "nowpunk" associated with real functioning things, events, and unrelated aesthetics as people become interested in the clash of low life and high technology in all of its forms.
Leo Johnson
>it will slowly meld into a general "nowpunk" Got any Nowpunk stuff you can recommend?
Nathaniel Gonzalez
Although it's a meme, Mr. Robot is a pretty clear example of nowpunk aesthetic. The new X-files also gave me the same vibe as well.
The most nowpunk show though is the news, or looking in a mirror.
Jackson Collins
>go all out full ancap I already am full ancap, just get here already faggots

If you don't like it then fuck off.
Henry Watson
so this whole "cyberpunk lifestyle" is simply anarchocapitalism with computers and hacking? this is what this is all aobut?
Hunter Robinson
its like star was, its a made up fantasy world created by one man
Brayden Mitchell
so the entire "cyberpunk lifestyle" is a bunch of kids who know coding and who are against the government? no wonder these threads are so empty
Carson Carter
it actually fits well with dystopian corporations controlling communication and banning hate-speech
>Although it's a meme, Mr. Robot is a pretty clear example of nowpunk aesthetic. OK, added to the FAQ (though the FTP is still down). The aesthetics of Nowpunk escapes me though, can you tell me more about that?
Adam Nelson
>Cyberpunk has nothing to do with cybersecurity.
Sure it does. Cyberpunks are the losers that cybersecurity protects against.
So first you pose an uninformed question and then from that you draw a baseless conclusion. I guess that takes real skill.

=== /sec/ News: >Boffins trying to build a open source secure enclave on RISC-V theregister.co.uk/2018/08/31/keystone_secure_enclave/ >At some point this fall, a team of researchers from MIT's CSAIL and UC Berkeley's EECS aim to deliver an initial version of an open source, formally verified, secure hardware enclave based on RISC-V architecture called Keystone.
What are the chances this group will be compromised?
>Song just recently participated in a workshop to advance Keystone, involving technical experts from Facebook, Google, Intel, Microsoft, UC Berkeley, MIT, Stanford and the University of Washington, among other organizations.
I wonder who those "other organizations" were.
Henry Lee
i cant read people's minds. if you guys don't speak up, i can only assume.
Sebastian Ross
Is this thing worth buying sifive.com/products/hifive1/ or are there better options out there? Really want a RISC-V prototype to play around with.
Levi Hall
no its more like a guy like george lucas invented a make believe world and people are larping in in it
Josiah Reed
I think it is too early yet to be cost effective. Most of what is available is intended for early adopters and developers which is reflected in the high cost.
In a few years these will be ridiculously cheap. Especially is ARM tanks (the last financial report was horrific) RISC-V will be the only heir to the throne.
Asher Adams
>ARM tanking >implying that Softbank would allow their patent squatting subsidary which holds intellectual property rights to tens of billions of microchips to evaporate
ARM itself just occasionaly designs a generic semiconductor IP. Most of the time they just get paid for allowing other companies to use their ISA. I would love to see RISC-V make progress, but it is going to be very niche for the time being.
Tyler Hughes
Dumb skid got gonked
Christopher Brooks
>Most of the time they just get paid for allowing other companies to use their ISA. Sure. It is just that their Chinese adventures are killing them: electronicsweekly.com/news/business/arm-failing-2018-08/ >Arm’s Q2 EBIT fell 99% y-o-y from £82 million in Q2 2017 to £1 million in Q2 2018. When you are left with just one single percent of your old EBIT there will be questions about the future.
Liam Sullivan
>What projects are you working on? I am still working on the FAQ. One new section is done, just 3 are left.
Jaxson Sanders
Is CCNA cyber ops a meme cert? Should i get CCNA Security?
Nathan Martin
not him, its not about the aesthetics, but the means and plot. Mr. Robot is clearly based off todays society but still retains "person in a low class trying to fight against the system with technology" vibes
Justin Cook
About to start some data recovery on a bunch of old IDE drives that are lying around. Just waiting for the adapter to arrive. Also, you aren't supposed to actually plug your cyberdeck into your brain without proper training or you have a stroke.
Connor Williams
Which is more cyberpunk: vim or emacs?
Ethan Morales
Is either really /cyb/? Not much aesthetics in either.
I know they are for early adopters. I still wanna buy one, and what im wondering if this specific one is the best choice. Im ready to spend up to 100 bucks.
Alexander Hernandez
Sorry, I am not sure which is the best.
To add to the choices, you can also use a FPGA and download one of many free RISC-V implementations.
>Also, you aren't supposed to actually plug your cyberdeck into your brain without proper training or you have a stroke. First check the drivers. Microsoft Brane Driveler 0.5 pre-beta is best avoided.
Cyberpunk has nothing to do with computer security.
Kevin Ramirez
Would it be possible to strip the end of a USB cable and use the data cables as a serial data pin to communicate with random devices? Everything ive read on the internet suggests that you need a device and a driver on the other side, but i dont see why you wouldnt be able to just manually bring the data line high and low... Pointers? I use linux btw :^) Shitposting has nothing to do with technology.
Jason King
You need to follow a protocol, and the easiest way is to offload that to a chip. You can of course do bit fiddling from the CPU but you would probably need hard realtime OS to stay within the timing requirements.
Rumours were that Intel launched USB to provide a need for Pentium processing power since the CPU did all the work manually. It wastes a lot of CPU to do that, i is far more cost effective to offload this to a dedicated controller chip.
Just what do you want to achieve?
Ayden Bailey
I have this tiny bluetooth transmitter which you read and write to using a serial pin. Usually i use my rPi to do this, but i currently dont have access to that, and its gonna be weeks before i do. So im trying to figure out the best way to communicate with it using only a laptop. I have two USB, one HDMI, one ethernet and a headphone jack. Tips appreciated.

Perhaps this is what you are looking for? ftdichip.com/Products/ICs/FT232H.htm FTDI makes a lot of popular chips in this segments, they have quite the selection. Just watch out for Chinese pirate copies, ref. the brouhaha a few years ago when they set up their drivers not to accept the copies. Much whining was had.

What's THE /cyb/ website nowadays? And don't tell me lainchan/arisu.

Not them, but please don't use or support Discord. There's IRC, Matrix, XMPP, Mumble (for voice). All free software.

It wouldnt be possible to implement this in software? If i have to buy a separate chip i might just as well wait for my rPi and use the GPIO...
