My dad gave me shit for playing a shockwave Flash game because he thought it was a virus. Also got shit for downloading a yahoo! toolbar because he thought it was spyware but he'd might've been right.

People of his generation thought that everything that isn't a spreadsheet is a virus

Chink/Jap internet today is still the same like pic related

How many people actually did this? Or even have that many?

>he had to share a computer
Sorry to hear that your childhood was shit.

these bars used to be automatically installed by many software including top ones (e.g. registry cleaners, mp3 players, etc...) in early and mid 2000s

This worked in our favor sometimes too. When I was ~13 I downloaded a playboy pic off Napster and accidentally left it in "My Documents" on the family computer. Family discovered it and had no idea how it got there so it was written off as a virus' doing

they still are depending on where you get the installer from and how impatient you are to read all the option in it.

I've been using linux since 10 years or so, so this is just from what I remember when I was a child back then

my buddy was downloading those toolbars well into the 2010's. he would even use them to search and shit. it was funny because he would ask me each time he made a search how much money the guy who made the malware was making from that search.

you can never go back

This is what everyone on Jow Forums thinks to this day

Never happened because parents didn't care about using computers (and we didn't have internet).

Femanon here.My little brother used to do that. Even when I told my parents that viruses don't just download porn to the computer through the internet browser (he didn't clear history), they still bought his excuses. Until once I took a polaroid photo of him surfing porn sites and threatened to show our parents if he ever visited porn sites again. I also made him clean my room and do all my chores in exchange for not tattling on him. Fun times.

I thought these bars were optional... like -> custom-> uncheck -> ?

didnt have a computer growing up so no

first computer was an IBM PC XT when I was 27
