I'm looking for a dedicated, long-lasting and high-quality MP3 player. I'm considering either the A40 Walkman, or the XDUOO X3. Does Jow Forums have any suggestions/impressions?

It's already in your pocket and you can make calls with it too if you want to.
>MP3
"Dedicated"
Ur phone faggot
t. tasteless plebs. I bet you think Spotify has everything.
My v20 has an amazing dac so I have no need for a dedicated dap however fuck me if some of these designs arent sexy as shit
What does spotify have to do with it
Just listen to mp3s on your phone and stop being an aspie
Benjie T6 + rockbox.
I'm debating whether or not I should go with the NW-A45 (pic related, $220) + a 400GB micro SD ($150) OR get the tools to refurb (new case, battery) + mod (SSD) my old iPod Classic, which would be $140 total, plus give or take 30 minutes to do the process & rockbox it.
Anyone have experience with one or both of these? Pros & cons?
>$370 for player with touch screen as only added "feature" vs. $140 for player with fantastic DAC, battery life when modded, Rockbox support, and 100GB more storage (that is also faster)
really makes me think
>buy hi-hi MP3 player
>listen to low-fi hip hop on it
b-but bluetooth and spotify
Sansa Clip Zip or nothing if you need a good one. The sport one isn't bad but has no rockbox, which I must have.
The rest of the ideas here have no rockbox, are expensive, or suffer from bad software and are expensive. Just use an old phone you faggot, theres all the dedicated you need. I root and install music software on my old androids. viper4audio is the best
I bet you think your 64GB MicrosSD card with FLAC has everything on it.
>I have the X3, would recommend. the only thing that happened with mine was the scroll wheel would act start to act weird and it would be really hard to select anything by scrolling, but then I sprayed contact cleaner behind the wheel and I haven't had the problem since
didn't mean to greentext. also I have the Fiio X3 not the one you are referring to.
no stable rockbox support yet
Had my FiiO X3 for some time now, i dont use it as much anymore but its awesome.

"I am a cuck" would have sufficed
Mine is pretty stable, i use it daily.
>dedicated music player
>spotify
Just use your phone, kid.
>cucks don't buy overpriced shit that sucks
i am a proud cuck
Just get an NWZ-A15 bro. Physical buttons > touchscreen.
>you can get all of the Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino albums on Spotify, literally why wouldn't you just use your phone?
Nwa-45 reporting in
People still use mp3 players?
Silly question, but is there an mp3 player with a similar interface as the Zune and Windows Phones did? I got used to it and I kind of love it now.
>It's already in your pocket
No it's not.
If your going to be spending this much money on what essentially is a pretty looking dac with an sd card slot why not get a lg v20. It has a good dac, expandable storage, and great battery life which can be easily swapped. And guess what? It has the added feature of doing anything else you want on a phone, because its a phone.
I bought a Ruizu X02, I commute by bike and having that little thing in my pocket is better than my phone.
Phone doesn't get wet from rain/sweat and X02 just werks.
never forget
>flac player
Xduoo is pretty good.
Currently own NWA35 for 1.5+ year
>Batteries are solid
>Touchscreen is flaky (has a slight delay)
>Sounds great (you need to tune the equalizer a bit for the best experience)
>Long boot up time if you have a huge library
>Need to switch it off if you don't plan it to use it or it will drain your power considerably
>Built like a tank
>No delay when playing the next track
Impressions my dude?
Yep. I use the xduoo x3 and it’s good if you put a screen protector on it and use Rockbox, the standard firmware has issues.
battery life is impressive, ui is alright but can feel sluggish while scrolling but not determental, USB dac function is nice, feels great in the hand, most of what you would want to do can be done through the physical buttons.
This is an issue with p much every dap. They don't spend much on software optimizing or a cpu to handle everything.
I have a modded iPod classic and a fiio x1 and seriously just do what and suggest. The dac in the v20 is pretty good and probably everything yu need for going out.
I still use mine plugged in, even if the battery died long ago.
FOR
I use the storage on my phone for other things, a dap is nice to take that load off as no current phone that also suits my dac needs has enough storage
Check your local thrift store or electronics recycler for old players. I basically got a sansa fuze and an iPod that way.
If Sony wants to make use of their Walkman brand, why won't they make an affordable model? Don't they want more of their devices in every household (or pocket)?
It has a micro sd slot. Get a v20 and stop saving porn.
I had the Fiio x1 or x3, it was quite decent
Yeah right I love the laggy interface jumpy clickwheel and waiting 10 seconds after jumping to a different position in a longer song.
They have a cheaper model. Just shit battery and no SD. Either pay the price or buy a fiio. Buying a classic is a poor investment these days.
Nice bootloops faggot
I still use my 6th gen 80gig Ipod classic. Fucking thing is 10 years old and still can play music all fucking day.
Xduoo X20
> succumbing to the botnet
I just use my imagination instead of listening to your shitty hiphop contraptions. Fucking kids.
>not making your own music and load that on a dap
>good interface
>solid battery
>128 gb micro sd support
>wav flac mp3 and other codecs
>bluetooth for memebox
>reads cue
>good interface
cost me 110 bux but it was worth
Yeah I love my Xduuo X3. With Rockbox on it it is a real trooper. Still getting 6+ hours of battery life from it a few years in of semi-regular usage.
I find though that it doesnt charge properly in Rockbox. So what I do is boot into the regular firm and turn it off and quickly plug in the usb to charge it so the big charging battery icon shows up and animates.
It IS a scratch magnet though. I never got a screen protector with mine and I remember scratching it the first time I used it.
Not a big deal, since its fine to look at indoors. Outdoors though its pretty impossible to see.
Thats its only real flaw.
Because I have a HTC10, which is also a good phone with a DAC thats rock solidly reliable.
But I still have a mp3 player when I want to save phone charge or plan to listen to music for hours on end.

Sansa Clip is pretty beast, cheap, works, good battery, if i lose it or it breaks it was cheap, ok display, doesn't kill my phone battery (and it's not nearly as big as phone) it's kinda all you need.
Xduoo works pretty well once you install rockbox on it. Once in a blue moon it can refuse to boot and you have to shove a pin to press its reset button. Battery is alright. Buttons are a bit harder to press after 2 years of use, but it shouldn't be much worse. Can survive concrete.
autists that also carry around a separate amp and only listen their flacs on hd600s.
notOP but funny enough I still use a flip phone to play mp3s. I've yet to own a smart phone and I'm in my 30s . Least my battery doesn't die after a few hours generally(prob less life playing the music though) and I'm one of those people rushing the charging stations.
What if you have a few classics lying around
the sansa clip lasts about 15 hours new, and about 11 hours on an older one I had. it can also be read outdoors. why did you buy that crappy chink shit when there were good models that have been out?
Would rec 45 this ones mine their great
They also have features to upscale audio and emulate a analog amp
Trips speak the truth, I bought mine about 6 years ago and I still use it daily. I hope it never dies.
>the tools to refurb (new case, battery) + mod (SSD) my old iPod Classic,
is there a step by step how to on this?
what model is that?
Usually with sealed electronics like MP3 players, tablets and phones you have to use a heat gun on the back side to get the adhesive holding it together hot enough to let you carefully pull it apart with either suction cups on each side, or with plastic prying tools. Once its apart you just disconnect some cables, undo a few screws and you can replace anything inside the device with replacement parts you order online or buy off amazon/ebay.
Theres tons of fucking youtube videos people have made for specifc models of things if you want to watch some dumbfuck go through it first before you attempt it on your own device.
My Galaxy S6 whatever its called had its screen smashed. Not just the glass, but the actual screen. I ordered a replacement screen for about $180 off ebay and a kit off amazon for $15 that came with a bunch of tools and replacement adhesive. Took about 45min to open it up, replace the screen, and put it back together.
The 5th gen iPod (mine) isn't even that difficult, there's not really adhesive on the sides, it's just tightly clamped together, so you don't even need the heat gun (just a pry tool)
>carrier branded backplate
gross
>Usually with sealed electronics like MP3 players, tablets and phones you have to use a heat gun on the back side to get the adhesive holding it together hot enough to let you carefully pull it apart
>usually
Why comment with speculations on generalities when the question asked was specific?
There's zero adhesive used on the iPod Classic's case, the halves are simply held together with metal clips, which are unfortunately quite a bitch to open, but at least when you've got the case open, it's all just regular phillips screws and ribbon cables from that point on. Still a classic asshole move from Apple to use those clips... Hell, even their BS proprietary screws would have been less of hassle to deal with.
ifixit.com
there is literally nothing wrong with listening to hip hop. furthermore, childish gambino is actually a great artist. go back to Jow Forums
Just get a Sansa Clip
Why the fuck would anyone pay +100€ for a music player with a fancy screen? Are you gonna be looking at the covers?
>upscale audio
An old ipod should suit your needs, try and get one with a busted hard drive because you will prob want to replace it with the sd card adapter anyway. You are also going to need to replace that battery it has, it's not a hard process.
Throw rockbox on there and you should be good to go.
Found this on the A40 Walkman amazon page.
What the fuck.
>HISSSSSSSSSS
What's the amp functionality like? I believe this thing sounds good as all hell but I tried out a Sony hi res Walkman (don't know if it was this exact one) a while back and I remember it having had very low volume output
>400GB micro SD
Jesus Christ. If you manage to fill that up, it will take forever to scroll through.
I just quietly hum to myself.
Not op, but I'm look to phaseout my smartphone. I have come to realize smartphones are the brand of the Normie cow.
Can I copy my music form GNU/Linux? Poodroid needs a ftp server for that. I swear my phone was never good at anything.
A15.
>Can I copy my music form GNU/Linux?
Unless for some reason you can't plug the Walkman into a USB port, I don't see why not.
And you would think India os would let Syncthing write to my sd card.
If not, am shore it wont reformat the card to be unreadable on a real os, but it would suck to take it out every time I want to add new music.
What ssd would you be modding with?
Seagate of course
WHY DID THEY STOP MAKING THEM???!!!
did I luck out getting a refurb one of these a couple years back? It looks like those aren't even available anymore
finally found it this week in the closet desu it already has rockbox
>tfw i only listen to 128kbps soundcloud rips on my Fiio
This, the sansa clip+ is the best rockbox player period.
The benjie t6 seems like a good option too being pretty similar but it has half the clip+ battery life and no clip.
rooted lgv20
Bump, I made a thread a while ago asking about the same thing
I want one that
>plays OGG's
>under $50 (im poor)
>buttons (no touchscreen)
>small and lightweight
...
>Not op, but I'm look to phaseout my smartphone. I have come to realize smartphones are the brand of the Normie cow.
I'm trying to do the same thing, since my phone broke and I haven't gotten a new one in two months. It's actually amazing not having a phone, I feel bad for normalfags
anyone have this one
looks sexy as fuck
i got audio technica ath m50x as headphones, which dap should i get? $100-200 is my limit, flac and 128/256 gb sd card support is fine, i can get used to any other specs. which one will provide the highest quality sound? thx
Kype says it's shit
