It was gong great. Installed a 256GB card and rockbox, a 2000+ mAh battery.... It was beautiful. Then the charging port broke.

I replaced it with a DX50.

Is it just me or does Rockbox look like shit and the default UI looks better? If only you could have FLAC on it ;(

You can install it, I've done it before. It's just not 100% stable on gen 6 and you can't use the installer iirc.
I'm more wondering if I'll run across any compatibility issues with the SD mod.

Gathering the materials to do a refurb + SSD mod on my 5.5G. Total looks to be around $140 for a new housing, battery, ZIF to mSATA adapter and 500GB SSD.
Boy I'm glad I didn't do this 2 years ago when I originally wanted to, b/c then I'd be working with a slower, lower capacity SD card that was more expensive to boot. Hell it'd still be more expensive to do a 400GB SD than a 500GB mSATA.

Also, is there a difference in screen supplies for the 5.5G? One of mine is very apparently a TN panel, with blue color shifting when tilted, but another I swear is IPS or TFT or something, because it's brighter with more contrast and MUCH less noticeable color shifting.
Am I just crazy?

phones with much worse battery life because they have 80 different radios on all the time, inb4 airplane mode, i want to be able to receive calls, and a lot of the time much worse DACs than the classic iPod models (barring something like the LG V30 or iPhone 6s, but then you just get into the debate of Wolfson vs Cirrus)
don't get me started on DAC/3.5mm jack dongle hell

...but I have no problem, I just was curious if there was a screen lottery with the 5.5G, kind of like the new 3DS.

They're all TNs by the way, both my 5G and 5.5G only shifts when viewed from the bottom right.

still using my 8GB nano from 2007 when I want to listen to music, tried to listen to music on my smartphone but it was always a mess and didn't feel comfortable at all

Recently picked up an 80GB ipod, replacing the headphone jack, gave the back a brushed finish and one good cleaning then it'll be good to go.

I think you can mod all of them with some kind of solid state media. The latest classics are just the easiest if memory serves.

you can do gen 6 i've been running for like 10 months with no issues. Except when installing on my second classic i was getting a kernal panic i went on the irc and they pushed a patch for it though
