I'd hate to say it, but maybe we were wrong about Flash. Plug-ins could be blocked. Memory usage was lower back then. Yeah, it wasn't FOSS, but it was easier to not use.

IIRC, Apple had a stake in MPEG. It was in their interest to oppose WebM.
That said, they seem to be part of AOMedia now too, so they'll probably pick up support for WebM (likely only with AV1 codec tho)

The animation software, Adobe Flash Pro, don't exist anymore, it have been renamed to Adobe Animate CC. And it can do not only flash/air animations, but also webGL, HTML5 canvas, SVG, and of course, plain video.
Nobody use "web" flash anymore. Even shady porn sites.

It's going to ask every single time you want to run flash content and it can't be set to always run until summer 2019 where it'll always be disabled by default and you have to enable it manually.

ff already did this but worse and it was the final nail in the coffin which made me move on
