Hows McDonald's treating you?

Hello my friend. Did you take the Java course from the University of Hyderabad too?

serious question though, what kind of status does C have in professional programming?

Company that I work at has a mostly C backend with some c++ stuff slowly making its way in. By and large most all memory is manually managed and we don't use much of the stl.

Only legacy projects. It's the FORTRAN of the 90s.

It's dead and the only ones keeping it alive are bitter 35 year old boomers.

Serious universities are switching to either python or javascript for their introductory CS programs

Recruiter here. This is truth. I pretty much trash any resume that lists anything other than C++, Java, Javascript, and MAYBE python. Listing anything else proves you aren't serious about real software and want to waste my time by making me look at your TOTALLY L33T projects. I don't care.

also
>he lists any .net language on his resume
>he has authored several npm packages
>his email address doesn't end in @gmail.com
>his github avatar is an anime picture
>he lists mongodb on his resume
>he is older than 30
>he just graduated and is older than 25
>he didn't attend a top school
>his gpa was lower than 3.7
>he has prior working experience at a no name company that isn't a startup
>he has not worked or attended school for a period longer than 6 months without explanation at any point in his resume
>his resume includes a picture of himself
>his resume uses a nonstandard font
>his resume uses some sort of scoring or progress bar system to indicate levels of proficiency or experience
>he lists video games as a hobby

What field ?

>he lists any .net language on his resume
c# isn't good for employers?

7/15

man fuck recruiters

i fit all of these but i got a 3.3. would you hire me?

Why would I not list the most important language in my field?

>that poo golem

literally the only thing to apply to me is:
>his gpa was lower than 3.7
mostly cause we don't use gpa

I get tempted to list video games as a hobby, but feel like it would definitely put my resume in the trash

only shit tier enterprise jobs at companies running everything on windows server and mssql and probably got scammed into using azure, top tech companies avoid hiring people who worked there

people want to program hardware

How do you teach low-level theory with a hardware-abstracted language?
>introductory
So surely you learn it later on, as well as assembly?

what school?

this is a silicon valley thread

>Be 22
>Work for company designing car control units
>Exclusively use C/Assembly
Fuck off you retard, C has and will always retain its uses.

I'm doing fine with "video game development" as a hobby on resume even though there are no games on my github.

can you talk more about what you do? that's really cool and i want to learn about more low level jobs. people never seem to talk about them

I second that, I'm looking to get into this sector atm

I can't really disclose much as we are a subcontractor for major car manufactures which binds us to very strict NDAs. If you have any specific questions I might be able to answer, feel free to ask them, but don't get your hopes up too high, because I work on the security teams regarding the hard/software.

If you want to get into the sector your best bet is to work on low-level/embedded platforms in your free time/in college if you still attend college. Then try to get closer to those companies, competitions (CTF etc) organised by such companies are a great way to get hired if you're above average.

>If you want to get into the sector your best bet is to work on low-level/embedded platforms in your free time
whew, looks like my z80 skills are still in demand thxx

All I know is that I want to work with the hardware at that level, programming that is. Working with bits and stuff is the most attractive to me, but since I'm a beginner, I guess I'm curious where I would start to learn, learn about the various things you can even do in the field, and practicing.

>z80 skills are still in demand
Should have been more specific, go with AVR/ARM.

I myself started out with AVR assembly + C on ATMegas/ATTinys, so maybe go for that? Prototyping boards are a good way to get used to those systems as you can extend them. If you want to go with ARM I would recommend going with a cortex M-series prototyping board, or even A-series if you want to get into multicore applications.

a-are you me?

> go with AVR/ARM
do those have a flat address space

Good to know you don't recruit for anything important then.

>do those have a flat address space
Yes, look at the cortex M3 for example (page 88)

GPA doesn't mean shit
IQ doesn't mean shit
Going to a ivy league school doesn't mean shit

When will you retarded insufferable faggot sheep realize this. Who the fuck gives a shit about money.

money is an idea that is over 10 thousand years old here on Earth. Meaning, some guy over 10,000 years ago decided intentionally implemented this. And here we are still doing it.

Over the last 50 years or so, most of the world has embraced the idea of "full coverage" single payer health for all its citizens. So health care is a 50 year idea.

The idea of money originated millions of years ago, think 100 millions years ago; in the star system of Orion. Think dark lords and the dark side. Think how corruption and lies are the main tools into getting people to give over their power to corrupt people who swore to uphold justice on their behalf, only to be betrayed. Think taking candy from a baby. We are talking some low consciousness stuff.

There is an open source operating system called Linux hat rivals the paid OS called Windows. Open source is proof that if something is allowed to be built and provided freely to the masses, we will not have a shortage of kind people who will organize and build it, for free!

So we can and we will build autonomous energy plants that are not for profit. This idea of “profit” is over 10,000 years old. Time for us to grow up. Like Prince said: “Act our age not your shoe size.”

I can't tell who's trolling who anymore

you're a clown, the economy isn't just the software industry

>giving a fuck about college
retarded sheep

Our educational system is a complete failure as it basically grooms our children to become corporate economic slaves while discouraging them to ask questions and to follow their own path.

College is yet another failure as it generally creates even more economic subservience through student loans that will take a life time to repay.

acid is stupid

I wouldn't hire an OOP programmer who didn't have experience in at least one functional language.

i don't know where the fuck to get psychedelics
i don't know where to get dmt, shrooms lsd all that shit

and im not going to suck botnet tor dick
and im not going to talk to shady druggie dealers and get stabbed
go fuck urself u retarded projecting faggot

Oh great, any liberal socialist retard that reeps all the benefits of living in a capitalist country lecturing everyone about muh evil moneyz

oh it's this retarded fucking sheep using buzzwords politics lingo or whatever the fuck

When you find religion, you find money as these two tenets in life are married to one another. Within these two entities, you’ll also find their bastard stepchild, government as all 3 are perpetually tied to each other.

There is not a single university teaching Javascript for introductory computer science. Operative word here is computer science; not web dev or software engineering, but computer science.

To be fair, Computer Science is a huge meme

Kinda like the gender studies of the tech world

Linux is not built for free. Most of the contributors are paid by corporations.

>Serious universities are switching to either python or javascript for their introductory CS programs
Carnegie Mellon uses C0 and ML

Those are for teaching concepts, not writing actual software. Once you get into the upper level classes where you get to pick the language to use no one fucking uses them because they are shit in the real world.

lmao what a retarded post
let me guess, you have a software engineering cert and think you know everything

No what the fuck lol, certs are even more retarded

Yeah but he said introductory courses.

Do you even have a job?

Yes, no degree though

Yeah no shit, you've made it really fucking obvious you're an uneducated moron

>tfw I just got my dream job because of my vast Matlab experience
enjoy using cuck languages where you just do fizz buzz and web crawlers all day.

Attached: 1369132014413s.jpg (224x224, 6K)

>uneducated
nibba I wasted my first 2 years in uni learning Java, and basic computing theory

What's uneducated is that I went in the first place

t. bluepilled javascript cuck

Yeah we need more electrical engineers and way less programmers

i know you're probably baiting but most of these are legitimate, except top school
video games as a hobby is cringy as fuck

I recruit for a Big 4 but okay

2.5 GPA 100IQ southwestern state tech college grad detected lmao

first language taught at my uni is C
No idea what you're doing

Python could maybe work but not in the way i've seen it be taught before

yeah i bet you do lol

MIT uses python for intro to CS

Yeah, I do

Keep coping

>His resume is in the unlucky stack that I throw in the trash without looking at

Attached: businessman-throwing-paper-bin-4849601.jpg (600x900, 97K)

Well, it's only natural. You don't want to hire someone who's unlucky.

>he just graduated and is older than 25
>he didn't attend a top school
>he lists any .net language on his resume

GOD DAMN IT

How fucked am I

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 42K)

yeah i bet you do lol

i'm 18 and regret my decicion to focus on programming despite being somewhat good at it. Recently I've been playing around with microcontrollers and the like and learning a little about electronics.

I'd really like to get invloved in the field. Do you have any advice on where to learn in depthabout this?

>>he has not worked or attended school for a period longer than 6 months without explanation at any point in his resume
2+ years and counting, I'm hoping I can just bullshit my way through when I finally get a job.

i had a < 2 gpa
27 never had a job
i know i'm too stupid and lazy and fogged in the brain to be of any use to anyone so i'm just sitting here gathering the balls to shoot myself lol

YEAH ILL HAVE A LARGE NUMBER 2 WITH FRIES

are you in the process of learning anything? i may have a million dollar opportunity. i'm a very important person and i would rather not disclose any information. if you're learning you have drive. if you have drive you can be taught. are you willing to make millions of dollars?

i memorized ascii by heart and can sing every character

i actually had a good laugh, we could really use a few of those around here to be honest. can you program? are you willing to take a quiz?

I know this is a shitpost but if he had drive he wouldn't be 27 without a job.

i'm actually applying as a jew namer/cameraphone man for patrick little
i've got a death wish and love blaming other people for my problems, so i really think this could be my big break

with an attitude like that i'd think you were trying to take MY job

I am, you're fired faggot.
I quit.

yikes.im jewish i dont care if you're mark zuckerberg, that can't work.(im jewish) sorry. jewish

don't do it bro
your life has value regardless of your self assessed usefulness to others
try to find something, anything that you enjoy doing. try to find people online or in real that you can connect with

OK? Maybe at shit schools. But at any university worth tuition, computer science is taught as an academic subject, and as a result do not chase fad languages. C is taught simply because programming in C will expose one's knowledge of cs fundamentals, it's perfect for theory.

It's clear you got weeded out by data structures and discrete math and switched to ece like every other retarded code monkey.

>ece
?

Electronics and teleCommunication Engineering

>Clueless recruiters who think they're experts, part 512.

Got a job with pic related

Attached: 2018-09-09-193433_773x39_scrot.png (773x39, 8K)

C has functions. Duh.

What job would have all of those languages as a requirement? What would you be doing?

None, but if I see a resume that has all that languages, I give him a chance

>he does not list C on his resume

Attached: TheDumbItHurts.jpg (728x585, 41K)

>thousands of dollars wasted on tuition is worth anything when even the big tech giants don't care about that

This: .
Also, I didn't end up directly using any of these languages at the job. A list like that shows you're a well-rounded programmer and will likely be able to learn the ropes of whatever stack your team uses.

It's widely used in embedded systems which means still a fuckton of fields: avionics, cars, robots in factories etc... C will always be relevant because there's no language than can be more optimized than C, asm aside maybe. Also C has the most system architectures supported.
See

Though it isn't used as much anymore, it's definitely a plus point to list it unless you're doing web frontend or other pajeet shit.

enjoy 1-indexing

Mixed. Most of us can understand and work with it but most people consider it shit for serious production work. Then there's a sigh and "except embedded shit".

>he lists tossing salad and node.js on his resume
ACCEPTED!
