I would reccomend Ubuntu - it's Debian with training wheels on. Debian presumes some knowledge you won't have.

Ubuntu is just Debian with patches and newer software. They basically fix what Debian doesn't.

ubuntu builds upon debian and has it's ppa shit and all while debian still sticks with their own repositories and all that shit. Driver support and so isn't as good still as ubuntu tbqh. Out of the box it's easier for unexperienced users to go with ubuntu due that and other reasons. In this way debian is a lot cleaner as it always have been.
