Is there a stable multiplatform .net alternative for linux that isn't java? Mono is slow and unstable and dot net core is only used for meme programming like cloud and web.
I am looking for a enterprise ready multipurpose langauge. ideally something compiled or with a jit compiler.
nodejs - using javascript voluntarily anywhere else that web frontend php - shit legacy lang made for webshit
wow, thanks a lot, dude
Jeremiah Turner
Mono is good you moron. Learn how to use it before you spout bullshit
Ryder Morales
Just use C, dumbass. All of the best programs are written in C.
Hudson Lee
If you don't like the JVM and you think Mono is slow, I don't really have any words to help you, other than "you're wrong"
If you are OK with languages running on the JVM as long as they aren't Java, I would recommend Scala. Have been maintaining medium-scale production software written with it for around two years. It's good as long as you don't overuse its features (just let scalaz or cats do that for you).
Brody Rogers
You are both fucking retarded :D Jesus fucking christ :D > using c in 2018 > using shitty fanmade port of .net
>le it's bad because it's old meme wtf do you even want to do nigger. there is no "multipurpose" language. java tries to be good at anything and ends up being a half assed turd at everything. C# only works for windows. nodejs with electron is unironically the best option for multiplatform multi-purpose programming, and php if you just want to build some business internal web software or whatever. it's cheap and easy to get developers and it just werkz.
Parker Ward
> electron > not worth responding at all
Evan Sullivan
There's a fixed and open source .net which should work fine cross platform.
Mason Clark
>nodejs and electron Garbage unless you're targeting computers that will run only 1 app at a time.
Just use C++ and Qt.
Xavier Murphy
Isn't the manual memory management too much of a hustle, tho?
Caleb Moore
Python
Logan Cook
>toy scripting language for toy projects written by a guy who wanted an easy toy language for his academia toy projects only webdevtards were dumb enough to use it for more than that
Chase Collins
Agreed.
Jason Howard
Only if you are writing software for a 512mb piece of shit pentium 4. Then yeah, C++ with Qt is a great option.
Cooper Richardson
>what is TensorFlow but yeah it's useless for anything GUI or performance critical
Jayden Watson
What is dot net core. Jesus Christ 5 seconds of googling could have saved a thread.
Dylan Nelson
>java tries to be good at anything and ends up being a half assed turd at everything >nodejs with electron is unironically the best option for multiplatform Guess which one runs in your credit card
Ryan Lopez
It's not really
Jacob Myers
>lets not optimize software LMAO HARDWARE WILL JUST GET BETTER Kill yourself you cancer dev
Camden Harris
so it can bridge C code wow
Jace Walker
this is true, and big enterprises are doing that choice. Don't trust Jow Forums weebs
Gavin Reyes
user, you have to understand no language is perfect and no matter what anyone suggests in this thread there will be another user bitching about it.
Yeah, and hospitals typically run on MUMPS. Your point? As I said, trying to point out a single language as teh best one evah is dumb. It depends on what you're trying to do. I'm just saying if all you want to do is write any old app with a deadline of 6 months and the developers are you and some other guy, then electron is a good option. If you have a larger team and enough time to deal with a more low level language, or you need to run it on embedded devices, or you have any other special requirements then sure, C++/Qt or Java or whatever else may be a better option. You think like that because you are probably just an user or a programmer who is part of a large team and does not have to make decisions about what to use to spend developer time more efficiently. But the world is not perfect and performance is not always the number one concern. And BTW it's not about hardware getting better, software built using web technologies works just fine on a dual core laptop.
Julian Clark
github.com/bonesoul/hypepool I'm helping some cunt with programming a flexible mining pool backend. Way faster then the old python stratum-pool or the nodejs version. Also really easy to make web api, websites or apps through shit like xamarin.
Easton Jenkins
It does not just "bridge" the code. It's used to set up all kinds of internal logic shit like layers, activation functions and other hyperparameters, save the network to disk every n number of batches, etc. Sure, it could be replaced by C logic, but it's not because Python allows faster prototyping of new features or architectural changes. Python is far from a toy language.

There is absolutely honestly no viable reason why anyone should use rust over literally any other language. I fucking hate Javascript, C++, Java, C#, Go and Ruby, but they're all better options for whatever kind of software you would be writing in rust aside from an operating system or embedded, and for that C is still far better than rust, and if you are writing a highly reliable jet engine controller, there are Ada and SPARK which are still far better than rust at being highly safe but also actually fucking usable. There's literally no good reason to use rust.
