What are you talking about? KDE looks beautiful.

No it doesn't lmao that big-ass clock and often duplicated title bars look like shit

why are you too retarded to rice it?
disgusting

the primary interface of the Linux OS is an interactive shell within a terminal emulator

gnome 3.x was a mistake

kde version?

What are you talking about? Deepin is beautiful and functional.

That better not be Solus, Kevin.

getting xfce to look okay is easy as shit

*crack* Now THAT is a DE *sips*

>clusterfuck UI/UX
>good
Only if you're mentally insane.

If chaletOS and zorinOS made it look fine then I'm sure it's possible to do so on any OS. It shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to theme it properly.

You know, it unironically gave me feels to think Ubuntu was a decent OS around 8.04.
But no, they HAD to fuck their shit up.

Still better than footfetishOS.

>install arc-theme

Someone tell me which DE does the pop in/out and fade in/out combo that Windows 10 does when closing and opening windows, or how to do it on any DE
It is unironically one of the reasons why i'm using Windows, this effect is so good and I can't replicate it on systemd/linux distros yet

Anyone got any YouTube vids of Ubuntu 8.04? I want to watch some but I can't find any on YouTube that aren't 360p

>he hasn't disabled all animations on windows
bruh I have bad news for you

Doesn't have the pop effect so into the trash it goes

>disabled all animations
Then I might as well install LXDE, which I won't

this until gentoo with a WM. a DE is still fine
I enjoy cinnamon
Xubuntu gives you a beautiful XFCE out of the box.

>download theme
>download icon pack
>dump tars into icon/theme list
Thats a pro, I dont have to run any command

That's not cinnamon

Working on the shell theme, but I think Cinnamon looks all right.

why would you ever want to install compton if new xfwm has presentproto compositing?

horrible screen tearing

there is already plasma for that

I believe you are looking for ubuntu mate gent

there is no screen tearing with presentproto, unless you are using nvidia with proprietary drivers
hell, even xfwm4 before the 4.13 version had no tearing since it had that «use vblank» option

I honestly like Gnome 3.

> imagine being this scared of Jow Forums memes
holy kek mate this is just a DE. literally nobody is going to put some feminine hormones or some other shit in you if you just want to install a desktop environment.

but you can swap parts out and customize it a decent amount, including looks
this is xfce (thunar swapped out for pcmanfm, xfwm for i3)

It's the modal interface, honestly. As an old vim guy feels right at home. I did the whole tiling WM thing for a long time. Got tired of it. Plus on anything that isn't a toaster with proprietary drivers installed its smooth as silk.

>javascript-based DE
>smooth as silk
Pick one.

basedu

Windows 10's tiling is smarter's than Gnome's 3.
Gnome 3 customizability and the graphical settings for the system in general are near 0
Programs like Netbeans show up twice when pinned
Animations in general are cancer

Explain further? How did you made it modal?

You haven't used it long enough. I used to like it too, but every update they just fuck the shit out of it and create more work for everyone else.

Works great for me. Of course I have a 970 in this box. For an old thinkpad or something I'd probably still be running CWM or Maybe Windowmaker.

The products you support matter user. That's why most of us are on Linux in the first place.

>no one has mentioned budgie yet....

Doesn't matter. It's limited by ram bandwidth and disk. And as I said animations are cancer and they can't be disabled because no settings because muh interface guidelines or whatever.

Dead DE.

Attached: 1490566661901.png (408x368, 96K)

Hit the Windows key?

Honestly don't really care for tiling, at least not on this machine. 65 inch 4k display I've got plenty of screen real estate. Plus I like animations.

It used to be that way, seems to have gotten a lot better. Remember how terrible the first few iterations of KDE 4 were. Haven't run into any extensions breaking on update in a while. Plus I run Fedora so unlike my Arch experience I don't have to worry about X updates breaking Gnome, which honestly they will, or at least used to. I'm also of the opinion that excessive focus on backwards compatibility can actually be detrimental. It's partly why Windows is the giant bug ridden mess it is. I'm pretty sure there's legacy code in there from at least the 95 days. Also why web browsers are the bloated and slow pieces of crap they are right now.

So run XFCE or whatever you prefer then. I said I liked it, not that you had to. It's Linux, man. Run whatever the hell you want.

Xfce looks just fine when you strip down some of the unnecessary things. I couldn't see myself using anything else.

Attached: Screenshot_2018-09-14_22-20-12.png (1920x1080, 800K)

usability and aesthetic design don't always converge. actually, they frequently don't. if you actually care, do your own research and look at Don Norman, Alan Kay, Jakob Nielsen, and Bruce Tognazzini's work at Xerox PARC and Apple on early user interface. the reason every UI is shit now is because people stopped listening to researchers like these and started letting graphic designers do UI

>Animations in general are cancer
spotted the researchlet

animations are important to the usability of most systems; they combat issues like 'change blindness'. for example, imagine you're in the middle of a long webpage, and you have no smooth scrolling animation, just instantaneous navigation. you hit either page up or page down, you're not sure which. how do you know if you went up or down? suppose you're operating extremely critical systems like air traffic control and this happens. that's why we need animation and motion

>you hit either page up or page down
>on an air traffic control screen
These shouldn't have built in scrolling or windowing at all. On any time-critical tasks like that different things are displayed on different screens.
>animations are important to the usability of most systems
Only for beginners. Power users should have a way to disable them. I introduces lag to what is already a very slow process, since humans aren't able to output data at high speeds.
And besides, skeumorphic design is way more usable than flat (it's processed faster by the brain) yet here we are.

Attached: 1449114488644.jpg (492x559, 64K)

first example was just to demonstrate the issue. yes, air traffic control systems work very differently, but they still have the same issues to deal with. nothing is allowed in instantly change on the screen for this reason

did you get that one from plebbit?

it's unironically the only decent DE
