RTX 2080

>RTX 2080
>60 fps

so this is the power of a $2000 GPU in the year 2018. also, who gives a fuck about 4k?

>who gives a fuck about 4k
People who aren't poor

the human eye cant see past 30 fps :^)

Shitty single-threaded game engines are the problem, not the hardware. See the Wolfenstein benchmark for a good comparison.

id tech is 100% multi-threaded and uses async compute for almost everything that isn't drawing.

BASED Nvidia giving us less performance for the same price.

Witcher 3 I'm pretty sure Witcher 3 doesn't have cpu optimization problems,it's a gpu heavy game.

>ray tracing meme

do we wait for the next stuff or AMD's next GPUs or what. this feels like an inefficient buy.

Don't forget the 2080 has only 8GB of VRAM while the 1080ti has 11GB, for 4K gaming 8GB is already reaching the limits

>Buy top of the line GPU
>Still can't run 4k 60fps

Human eye can't register resolutions higher than 1080p

in theory, but fps varies and you need at least 60 so when it drops it isnt noticable

my opinion at least, movies are one thing gaming is other

false

eyes has around 5MP in the center, edges of vision >1MP ...

assuming you arent talking about 1080p on a coin size display

>$2000
Didn't your parents ever teach you not to lie, user? Even the 2080ti is well under $2000.

It will become faster onde CDP enables DLSS on TW3.

Anti aliasing isn't really needed for 4k

Until your VRAM runs out because it's shit tier 8GB and your frames bomb

I assume HW is HairWorks
Withcer 3:

2080 Ti: ON = 67
OFF = 81.5
2080: ON = 52
OFF = 63.6
1080 Ti: ON = 55
OFF = 58.5

2000 series price jump isn't justified or reasonable, but there's no mistaking it's improved performance. 20-30 fps depending on the game.

DLSS will make the game run sub 4k. With magic AA.

Definitely not worth it.

As for what you're waiting for, that depends on what you have now. If you're on a 5+ year old card there's not much reason not to just buy a 570 to get decent performance, Vulkan, and good open drivers for a decent price.
If you're on something more recent that's not quite up to 1070 level performance, a Vega 56 is a good buy if you can find one for below $400 for much the same reason.

If you're already on something that powerful you're probably ok waiting for the prices to come down more or new hardware to drop

RTX 2080 is no where near $2000 though.

The 2080 will be worth it when drops down to 500 dollars a year and a half from now. The 2080 Ti will be worth it when it drops down to 700 bucks, also a year and a half from now. If you have the funds to spend 1000 on a GPU and another 2000 to 5000 on a high refresh rate 4k monitor, than the 2080 Ti is a great buy. For those of us who don't have 3 to 6 grand lying around, it's not worth it.

Not him, but the 2080 Asus Strix version is $1700 AUD. The 2080 MSI X is $1500. Confirmed by a local retailer.

I bought my 1080 Ti MSI X for $1240 AUD back in April 2017
