i have now given up on linux, it will not boot after installing nvisia drivers. I have spent 3 weeks, trawling though forums, moding Xconfigs, and other files, messing around with bios, but still mis match screens not screns found. XFCE /startx , initx does not work, i have tied both manjaro and mint. All the permutation of gui, command line, ppa repos the lot,
optimus crap, hybrid drivers and nothing, just a black blining screen, I must have reinstaleed about 20 times now.
why the fuck can linux just not make drivers work.
and easy.

I won't lie to you and claim that the nvidia drivers are not a problem esp with the optimus shit too.
nah your problem is that the material you are reading probably contains error, is old and in general written by lit 16 year olds who managed to install the drivers for the first time in their life and had to write blogs and forum posts about it.
my only advice to you is to try reading your distros official documentation, which can and cannot be outdated or whatever.
However after tinkering around you will eventually get it, modprobe, xorg config files and all that shit. pay attention to where the files are installed.
I can however give you a tip, if you use an ubuntu based distro there are ppa's for this which allows you to ie toggle between three drivers, they are ofc never the newest ones though.
Also keep in mind that you have to go and check what gpus the driver you are going to install supports, because especially with mobile gpus it's not always supported.
I have used so much time with this shit my self over the years, and with each new install it's usually a mess. This really rests on nvidia though, they are not doing this good enough

however like forinstance today cuda 10 was released and you need the 410.?? drivers for that. So in this case if you are a developer, you still need to install it the old fashioned way.
Regular users will have no need for this though. However if nvidia weren't a bunch of niggermonkeys they would have made proper installers for all mayor distros that would actually werk without all the hassle though
