No one is actually threatening this because those involved (even the ones being targeted by CoC or outright banned) are professionals and realize how bad this would be for the legacy of their work. It does hold up legally, it's a major concern for free software development.
Recently mpv wanted to relicense under a more permissive license so they could make it more modular, with libmpv. They had to call every contributor to acknowledge and say they agree with the license change and rewrite the code of any contributor that didn't show up.

This is why SJWs are a cancer. Does Linux exist to be a good OS or to promote a far left ideology? Because it can’t so both. If a programmer is banned from the project not because their code sucks but because they’re not sufficiently woke, Linux ceases to be an OS and turns into SJW propaganda.

You can of course decide you want to re-license your code to a more restrictive license but if there's a copy of the original code still licensed under GPL people can still use that version all the same. As long as everyone abides by the license's terms they can't be forced to stop using it. That's what copyleft is.

There is no reason to stop using Linux even if things get really bad at the LF. Corporations already use forks based on older versions of the kernel and backport upstreamed security fixes and new features. It's not a big deal. Any corporation that heavily relies on even headrev can make appropriate mods. Migrate some key members of the LF to a new board if you want bleeding edge maintenance.

Basically, none of the measures described in this thread are effective enough to stop or kill anything and result in the scenarios you're talking about. Its one of the big benefits of open source.
