Why were 2000's software so aesthetic?

It's shit
But modern software is even shittier, so 2000's software looks fine now.

Vista was comfy and usable with the service packs, all this flat and "material" shit looks so bland
Jace Bennett
You are like a little baby... watch this
Dominic Thompson
Because it was designed by people who knew what looked good, unlike current shit that is made by suits in paint and coded by pajeet
Carter Morris
This desu, thinking about it material is very boring and it is harder to find stuff and less pleasing to the eye. I find it strange while IOS is also pretty bland at first sight it is still pleasing to the eye.
Really hate Android Phone though all the round corners and loads of padding feel like huge wastes of space and unnatural since a screen is a rectangle in the first place so why add a bunch of corners and shit.

Isn't Tesla "open source"?
Aaron Flores
Fuck, I miss Vista.
Can I do that with GNU/Linux?
I assume KDE probably has a similar effect, right?
I'm going t o switch soon™.
Benjamin Flores
all the IP and electric motor tech is open source
Jaxson Bell
Is there a way to get Windows 7 aero on Windows 10?
Lincoln Myers
Wouldn't a food analogy make more sense? like the open source would be a human making it and you can see his recipe and the stuff he puts it and the closed source would just be a giant box that just shoots out burgers.
Cameron Parker
You would be right if what you are saying is true.
Dylan Lopez
Whats a good alternative?
Leo Lopez
>Why were 2000's software so aesthetic?
The 90s saw the advent of GUIs in nearly everything but due to limited hardware capabilities most of GUIs where simple in color and design.
Come into the 2000s where most PCs could produce full color at a nice resolution and skeuomorphism came into full effect which most of the time meant making things look like they're made of glass
Jace Wilson
>due to limited hardware capabilities
*limited artistic abilities
Leo Gutierrez
And how do you explain the flat shit that came afterwards?
Connor Russell
This. BeOS was aesthetic in the 1990s.
William Parker
Same thing happened to the web. The internet killed magazines, so all the shitty magazine "designers" got jobs in software and internet companies. You could see it clearly when Windows 8 came out. All the metro apps looked exactly like those vapid fashion magazines from the 90's. All columns of meaningless text interspersed with equally meaningless images.
Easton Robinson
So was NeXTSTEP.

When you have to make a GUI for the lowest common denominator of PC hardware you might end up with something like Win95
IDK who started it but its been a cancer ever since
Evan Powell
Mobile shit invading web design needing simple forms to see shit at low res.
Wyatt Garcia
>When you have to make a GUI for the lowest common denominator of PC hardware you might end up with something like Win95
True. Though 95 was a consistent design at least, which I can't say for Windows 10.
Ryder White
NeXTSTEP had the "chiseled grey widgets" look in 1988 and was subsequently copied by every competing graphical OS in the 90s.
Parker Ramirez
John Williams
by the time flat design became a meme (2012-14) phones already had higher resolution than most computers
you're actually almost right though. it was believed that textured design was in the 'uncanny valley' on high res screens and that we didn't really need that much contrast
Noah Bailey
IMO Aqua with the pinstripes is still the most elegently designed OS ever. The contrast between elements and the way the text pops is very nice.
Daniel Martinez
Exactly this. Fuck the useless brain-dead shit-skins that have destroyed everything related to technology. These filthy subhuman cretins all need to hang.

>drive the chad GNU/Car
>vroom vroom shit goes 300mph in 5 seconds
>be chad neckbeard, don't care about how it looks
>gets you from point A to B just the same
>costs fucking nothing, made from scraps
>engine runs on any type of fuel, including 80+ proof liquor
>can't get locked inside because the door is plywood

What the fuck are you talking about? Anything that isn't grey as its default color is fucking garbage.
James Robinson
Grey is not a color, user
Isaac Ramirez
Fuck, never thought of this but it makes complete sense. UI stopped being made by tech people who were focused on pulling the utmost performance out of the hardware, and began to be done through bloated libraries that were written to be used by stupid fashion designers. Fuuuuuuck.
Why do normans have to ruin everything?
Jordan Morales
4/10
His effort though buddy.
Ryan Diaz
That was undoubtedly the intention. Aqua was designed to have a certain physicality to it, which is why the Apple's Aqua UI design guide went as far as to include things like where the system's "light source" was located (the menubar).
Ian Cruz
No joke, kinda miss that
Sebastian Roberts
Sudden desire to build a car.

this is garbage, not good.
