I was a windows kid through and through, used every single thing they put out and programmed in all their languages. in 2005 when vista came out Aero wouldn't run on my PC so I got upset started triple booting XP with slackware/knoppix/some KDE distro with heavy ricing features.

primarily used loonix for 10 years till 2015, when I finally got a new computer which came with windows 10. I didn't like 10 so I switched to 8.1 which is like a comfier 7.

honestly speaking the linux community is pretty shit. linux itself is shit as a desktop OS because of its terrible driver support. the only positives about it was the fact that it was very easy to develop stuff for it and its ability to run on older and low-end hardware but that seems to be going away in the mainstream distributions who want to be hip and cool with bloatware and shiny effects.

linux soys you meet at conferences are also pretty annoying "h-haha I b-b-b-bet windoze can't do this h-h-hehe" but they'd be seething when i did exactly that infront of them. i do admit it's been pretty fun to laugh at loonixers since the past few days

Actually Linux was sold everywhere in the late 90s, pretty much all computer shops were stocked with the official redhat/suse/mandrake cd sets. You could get it pre-installed from any place doing custom builds. I got mine from a summer job. It only began to turn into the unusable shit that you know today after 2005.

The whole pre-warez scene ran on linux. My windows 95 box chocked when trying to drive more than 2-3 cd burners, linux could pull 12-15 depending on the acceptable error rate. I really can't thing of any time when linux wasn't center stage in tech (which itself was much smaller at the time, hence maybe the source of your confusion), even on the corporate side they were serious interest all the way from 1993.
