I have wanted an x200s for a long time and the tension of waiting for a reply is killing me.
Wish me luck lads

First for beware the T440s shitposter!

Never heard of this site, guess it makes sense the leafs would have their own classifieds site

Okay, so I will buy a Thinkpad 420.

My question is: What can I do to remove all the usual botnets from it?

Can I remove the Intel Management Engine from this? What else can I do to make it as uncucked as possible?

coreboot.org/Board:lenovo/t420

This dude makes the best ThinkPad videos AND he's not a transvestite faggot. How awesome is that!

youtube.com/watch?v=bOFB3QaOT6Q

But seriously though, watch his videos if you're new to the ThinkPad world. And maybe you'll stop asking retarded questions.

So now that coreboot and linux are invaded by trannies and sjws what's your excuse for not using windows on your thinkpad?

>Implying Windows is free of them.
I shiggy diggy. If you care that much about politics, the only real alternative is OpenBSD.

Is there a model that has a modern and sleek design instead of the thicc and chunky design ThinkPad is known for

X1 carbon and T slim series are what you are looking for.

I am looking at the options for the A485, getting the 1080p touchscreen is cheaper than the non touch 1080p. Why is this?

this
>t. just installed openbsd on my T60 and dragonflybsd on my X200

Anyone here knows how to turn on the thinklight on a x230 using terminal commands?
Echo 0 works fine for shutting it off but echo 255 does nothing.

Anons with the x60/61 and t60/61, are they still useable for offline stuff?

This is /tpg/ they will tell you literally any laptop is still usable because muh text processing machine.

they are still usable for online stuff too if you download a light weight or text based browser

not any laptop, most 2009 laptops are crap for today usage, but thinkpads are bussiness laptops, they are more powerful than the average laptop, also more durable, the only bad thing is the heat and low battery life.

hello user, got an x230 recently, i just ordered an 250gb msata, if i take out the wwan card i wont have any more wifi capabilities or is it just the lte/4g mobile modem card? isnt the wifi module elsewhere?

I'm the X61 and T61 are fine, but I'm not about the others. I have an upgraded CPU on my T60 and I can't watch 720p on YouTube without it suffering a slow death. Granted, Youtube is a shit unoptimized site, but I also have problems with 1080p h254 videos (HorribleSubs releases, which aren't even big on bitrate ), and I'm using Linux. GRANTED, my T60 has one of those old Radeon dedicated GPUs and the drivers sucks both on Linux and on Windows, so that may be the cause. Anyway, I'm looking to buy a compatible T61 mobo to swap it. T61 mobos have a lot of interesting hacks and mods, so I may really do that in the near future.

>Offline stuff.
Absolutely, though I wouldn't count on them being the fastest nor the most reliable when it comes to CPU heavy tasks like photo editing and video editing.

Truth be told, I mainly have my T60 because I love the 4:3 aspect ratio.

This is my daily driver.

My X230 won't wake up from sleep, have to hard-reset it every time. Does Jow Forums know why?

What OS

lads lads lads
i have a t430,x230 and x260
i wanna get a new (old) onecba to do the keyboard swap or screen swap
im either gonna get a t420 with the 1600x900 display or i might try the hp elitebook 8460P
are the elitebooks certified comfy or should i just get the t420
>yes i know i dont need another thinkpad, but what i want and need are different things

win7

Have you tested on other operating systems? That would help narrow down if it was a hardware or software issue.

for me it's the x201

also i just recieved my x200 and its practically brand new but unfortunately it has computrace enabled
with the 1440x900 screen?

Attached: IMG_0954.rotated.jpg (3024x4032, 2.12M)

>computrace enabled
>X200
Just libreboot it

i called up computrace and they emailed me a program to disable it for me. not the end of the world desu, just give em a call

Attached: 1532681906179.jpg (1616x909, 195K)

ima coreboot it instead i don't to no trannyware bios on my laptop.

i probably will. i need to have windows installed right?

>>P-Series - 15'' + 17'', 4K display, up to 64GB of RAM, Xeon CPU option. Expensive.
I just purchased one of these for my employer. I'm so sad it's not for me. At $3,000, I'll never own one.

Older models are sitting around $1000

>At $3,000, I'll never own one.
How low are your life expectations?

My car costs less than $3000.

yes I ran the software with W7

I just can't justify spending that much on a laptop, when I could build a pretty amazing desktop for the same price. I really don't need a laptop, either. The P51 is a real beauty though.

Last thread many people shilled out the x220, but this meme is what got me into wanting to buy a memepad. so what is it Jow Forums? the 220 or the 230

Attached: chrome_2018-09-22_12-50-33.png (888x150, 61K)

Have any leafs had luck buying thinkpad sat electronics recyclers or scrapyards? None of the ones I can find seem to allow buying from them

X230 with X220 keyboard
>inb4 X220 fags who can't flash a bios

x230 with xx30 series keyboard. don't fall for the ec flash meme.

alright.
should i ask for some money back since there was no mention of computrace in the listing or in the pictures?

In my experience on Debian and with latest Firefox it's been fine. If you configure mpv right you can watch 720p and even 1080p videos.

Looking for a TP for around 400Euro
that is relatively portable with decent battery life and enough power to handle 2-3 vms.
I've been looking into a T440s ( i7 4600U ) and a T420s (i5-2520M).

X1 carbon if you're feeling like you want to deal with soldered everything*, battery life nowhere near advertised, a toasty CPU along with paying a premium for them.
The 1440 display is nice, though. So I guess there's that.

X250 with i7-5600u and 8gb ram for $150 a good deal?

X61 2.5ghz here, this machine is absolutely perfect, running Gentoo and compiling everything just fine. I also use it for watch 1080p videos on external monitors

I'm looking in to buying a t440p because of the FHD screen mod, but I'm finding vague information on the requirements for the mod. Some claim it's possible across the board and others say it's only possible on the 1600 by 900 models because of pins or bandwidth requirements.
Can someone clear it up for me?

Attached: 1536583613710.png (466x552, 197K)

there's a sale thread currently for a decked out T430

nice, you can fuck off back to Jow Forumseddit too user

have some internetz good sir
simplu eric

I'm in the same boat, but with a t450 instead, but I don't see there being all too much difference seeing as the display skus are the same between the two?

That's it anons, I librebooted my X200 this weekend. It was a bit scary since the libreboot website is quite outdated on some aspects but it worked out in the end I'm pretty happy!

Attached: IMG_20180922_163134.jpg (4608x3456, 1.75M)

Now change your gender to get the full trannyboot experience.

did he died?

I ended up replacing the WiFi card after librebooting it to an Atheros AR5BXB112/AR9380 on some user's advice.
I connected the white band on the 0 channel and the black one on the one channel, it works okay even though I didn't connect any cable to the third channel (because apparently the red and blue cables are for GSM or something)

Nope it works perfectly! I didn't work the first time but then I just tried to flash libreboot again and it was good

Gonna get my first ThinkPad, a T530, in a couple days. Anything in particular I should do/add to it once it arrives?

install gentoo

>for shutting off
could you please post your complete command
thanks

# echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/tpacpi\:\:thinklight/brightness

thanks a lot!

No problemo.
Also, does echo 255 works for you?

Sorry can't try it, I'm going to buy a thinkpad and found your command helpful.
Perhaps something with your thinkwiki.org/wiki/Thinkpad-acpi installation went wrong?

Which thinkpads are good for gayming? It doesn’t need to run the latest games,I’m still using a Mac Pro from 2006 most stuff I play is on Windows XP like counterstrike but would be nice to have some power under the hood

It's usually preinstalled, but maybe reinstalling it could help, thank you.

Attached: 1462489822065.png (623x527, 416K)

Is there a way to change the keyboard caps on the x1 carbon so they don't look right out of 2004?

From what I've read, you need the higher bandwidth LVDS cable for FHD. That cable was originally used for 900p screens. So either you buy a model with a 900p screen, or you have to find the correct cable.

>AND he's not a transvestite faggot
but that's one of the biggest reasons why I like tripcode

Wanna get a thinkpad for CS at uni, narrowed it down to two choice (pic related). Thoughts?

Hi, i need some help, not sure where to ask. My friend asked for laptop recommendations, used mostly for notes, spreadsheets, light photo editing and net browsing shit. he wants it as small and light as possible and gave me a budget that is equivalent of about 300 dolaridoos. It's supposed to be for a normalfag and light, so in a way i ruled out most thinkpads, and im not sure what to look for now. Any recommendations, used or new, would be very appreciated.

Some guy on ebay has a job lot of 4x T430s. They are all varying levels of fucked. Should I buy them and do repairs/FHD mods on them all? Is there a market for modded thinkpads?

Don't update the bios

x220er here, ides are fine if you move the console panels from the bottom of the screen to the right (which you should be doing regardless of resolution to maximize vertical space)

Can I replace the keyboard of an x230t with that of an x220. I know its possible with the x230 but idk about the x230t

You're falling for yet another meme

Why is the T540 not a modern model in OP?

post your thinkpad setup
