Linus's last video is all about shilling gaming on his OS with the fancy new Steam proton technology which allows GNU/Linux users to run Windows games as well as native Linus games. Linus makes a big deal about how easy it has become to game using his kernel.
Like him or not; his channel has wide reach. Is it over for Windows gaming, is Microsoft about to be bankrupt and finished?
Why has Torvolds gotten into the gayming development. Its only been a week and he's lost his mind
Alexander Cook
Recent Linux news: Finally support for DRM disasters and also a CoC to cater to Twitter shuts that don't even use it.
G-great.
Dominic Green
>Linus steps down from kernel development >Now he only plays games on linux
Tyler Morales
If the Proton Wine patches get to the point where emulating stuff like Photoshop and Office is seamless, there would be absolutely no reason to use winshit unless you're a business and you want support
Evan Reyes
i cant take this dude serious untl he loses those gay ass ear rings and gets a proper haircut. shit just screams CoC
Cameron Ross
Proton is all about running DirectX games smoothly; it doesn't improve compatibility for desktop programs like Photoshop and Office directly. It will probably help eventually, though, since improvements beyond graphics that are required to get games running smoothly will help other programs too.
Not sure how big a concern office is, though. Most people I know work at places where they switched to Google Docs long ago. Making your entire business reliant on a cloud service like that is obviously utterly stupid but that seems to be the trend. Not talking about IT related companies, btw, just regular companies where people I know work.
Jason Anderson
desu senpai, when he dropped that coffee code I closed the tab and purchased a 24pack which is less than what I pay in store. however, after I read where they source their beans im a bit skeptical but on the other side I like supporting a small business. So much gymnastics in my head right now
Tyler Cox
Docs still lags way behind in formatting settings unfortunately. I'm not saying Word isn't a hacked together piece of shit - I've wasted countless hours trying to fix somebody's mess of line breaks, page breaks and headers - but more options is more options
Colton Taylor
It's still only stream though. I know that's a weird thing to say but not really. Thinks like CoD, fortnight, blizz games are the biggest in the world.
Levi Bailey
I hate every thing about this dude. Such a nasty personality. Honestly i would bash his head in for just being him. God, only thinking about it makes me feel things
Luke Bell
(psst guys, DXVK and VK12 are usable in Windows, you can just install the best Windows edition ever also known as Windows 7 and use good open source software. You know this will also bring DX12 support to Windows 7 right? Just run your Linux in a Virtual Machine as it was meant to be and enjoy video games on the superior operating system)
Samuel Thompson
true, but its a pretty important stepping-stone. improvements to proton/steam will eventually make it possible to run fortnight and other non-steam games too and some will probably get official "linux support" (but not really) too. think about it, if you have made some Windows game and you realize that it takes you 10 minutes of extra work to make it run on Linux with proton then you're probably going to slam "runs on linux" on the box and sell it like that - even though it's not actually a native linux game
Angel Rodriguez
LMAO he got kicked out by a tranny. What a CuCk.
Justin Smith
Eventually, but its a long way off in video drivers
Nathan Murphy
>linux cucks really think devs will adopt broken kernel There is a reason even windows xp has more users than your dumb OS. Stop dreaming.
Isaac Sanchez
>i cant take this dude serious untl he loses those gay ass ear rings and gets a proper haircut. shit just screams CoC then don't take him serious, cuck
Eli Peterson
CoD is now an exclusive title for battle.net. so any new cod game will be launched via battle.net not in steam.
Hunter Jones
Only because they were afraid of bad reviews because of no single player and still $60 price.
Jason Carter
linus' kernel is the most used kernel in the world, the desktop's the only area where it's not totally dominating. seen any windows phones lately? nope, linux-powered android owns that space. and we're now at the tipping-point where linux is about to take over desktops too. all we need is the right major windows security crisis and the nations will accept the GNU World Order
>You can finally play some video games on Linux but still nobody wants to use it.
Hmmmm
Dominic Bell
He made vid about: kvm, gpu passthrough, looking-glass, win vm on linux.
Grayson Gomez
>kvm, gpu passthrough, looking-glass, win vm on linux. when? doesn't exactly seem like the topics the children watching that entertainment channel would be able to follow. but cool if true
Evan Price
>is Microsoft gonna bankrupt because vidya?
lol... We don't use windows just for video games. For example obtaining these programs just took about 2 hours BY the finalization of format.
in linux it'd took a complete afternoon minimum even if you're a pro worker. and another night just to adjust them to work together and normally at all. I don't even know if there's software equivalent to most of these here in linux distros.
Linux is fucking trash and a huge psy-op to keep you autistically entertained and busy.
LibreOffice is similar, free and supports most MS formats. If you're not buying MS's support services, there's no reason to use their crummy software when there is free crummy software.
Joshua Thomas
Microsoft has been spending money for decades to stop developers from doing that. But right now they're hemorrhaging money just keeping their business OS dominance, so maybe that aspect of the gaming market will be allowed to change finally.
Dylan Allen
That program list gave me cancer. All that fucking chinkware oh my god.
Benjamin Ross
Why is Linus helping people run Windows in Linux?
Gabriel Evans
>The future of linux is running proprietary windows software Freetards btfo.
Cooper Taylor
I don't know what most of these programs are for. Is this the lengths you have to go to to pirate software on Windows? What a pain.
Sebastian Clark
The future of linux is Android. This is just a nice kick in the ass to Microsoft while their pants are down.
Jayden Jones
what would you recommend? I need those audio progs for ripping music, that retarded partition wizard for creating fat16, and irfanview which I most hate, in need of processing jp2 files properly. And that smart driver updater looks scam as fuck but surprisingly works like Gimli. I don't think I have better choices.
Brody Ortiz
So this is why he quit the development. for gayming
fucks sake
Robert Reed
YOU CAN'T PLAY TETRIS TGM ON LINUX
COCKSUCKERS
Jace Campbell
Meanwhile linux subsystem in windows literally runs everything in their package manager
Lincoln Bailey
>audio progs for ripping music ffmpeg >fat16 mkfs.vfat >jp2 Imagemagick >smart driver updater Clarify it's function. >Those are hard to use. They perform relatively technical functions.
Eli Peterson
if only he make a better last video before jumping in front of that train.
Xavier Edwards
These jokes stopped being funny 2 months ago, just a heads up for the ocasional redditor that gets lost from /v/ and ends up here unfoetunately :)
Juan Nguyen
Yes you can, Mame runs on Linux...
Bentley Brooks
hey user talking about jp2, I need one and can't find a software that decompresses jp2 to original tiff or whatever it was. need help if you know anything.
and about that, this guy really surprised me when it looks like a fucking trojan loader, it really does its work godlike on updating any driver it found by device ID's probably. but it just werks.
His job security doesn't depend on public opinion. He answers to no one. If anything, this attention gives him a chance to increase public awareness about whatever he wants, as long as it lasts. He made a video that indirectly supports pirating windows. Attacking a smart, wealthy media savvy person through social media only helps them in general.
Anthony Rogers
I know you're trolling. I just wanted to drop some searchable text linked to that question.
Thats not the same person you fucking newfags linus tech tips is his son
Hunter Martinez
wat? is this true? I won't believe that he'd have the most retarded son on earth.
Christian Davis
GNU World Order
Ian Hill
>son is a tech-shill on Youtube >daughter is SJW feminist Guess he sacrificed being a dad to write Linux but now it bites him back
Jordan Campbell
Fuck off Linus. You're a fucking twat and you videos are annoying as hell. Stop shilling your shit on here, fucking pin-head.
Jason Foster

of course there's Tetris on Linux, there are, in fact, plenty of them - including terminal based variants.
and there's MAME for the arcade variants too. Actually, if you count the number of games for MAME, SNES, Playstation, SEGA and the other things you can emulate then there's probably more of those than there's on Steam. My favorite arcade game is Metal Slug, btw.
> Spyware ubuntu It's one thing claiming windows being a invasive piece of hot shit, but then shilling for Ubuntu that actually also spy's the end user.
Evan Garcia
it "spies" on you as much as firefox
Adam Turner
>cheat engine >nawt about gaymes! sure
Kayden Cruz

It is worth remembering that the fact that they were caught and called out on it does not mean they regret it; just that they perceived shareholder value to be best served by back-peddling.
Christopher Hernandez
go away and stop forcing your newfag meme
Logan Mitchell
This guy invented Linux? Wtf
Michael Gonzalez
>multithreaded scheduling on multidie systems is somehow going to improve gaming performance >>>/reddit/
What is this idea that it's ever been hard to game on linux? It shouldn't be hard The question is why don't developers support linux from the start? Other than shills who get perks from microshit to program only in direct x, there's no reason why any opengl game can't be easily ported to linux without emulators and all that. Well I thought about this and the answer came to me rather easily. It's the linux community keeping game devs away. It's the socialist/communist toxic thinking that "all software should be free and open source" well devs and artists gotta eat, sadly and dealing with toxic gamers on any platform is bad enough, but on linux it's probably twice as bad. Too often I see devs get chewed out by linux (and mac users) over silly things like not putting a save file folder in exactly the right place. add that to the general abuse devs get from regular gamers. It's totally not worth it.
Mason Gray
STOP SHILLING THIS BASTARD. HE IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. HIS CRAP DOES NOT BELONG HERE. EVERY POST, EVERY PICTURE IS AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR THIS COC-SUCKER. FUCKING STOP IT!!!
>implying NPCs make a conscious choice about what OS they use
Carter Smith
Great meme OP, well done.
Kevin Cruz
>implying NPCs make a conscious choice about what OS they use most don't but even people who aren't very technical sometimes do. My neet brother couldn't install an operating system if his life depended on it and he can barely manage to get off his xbox for half an hour during a day but he has been talking about moving to linux because windows 7 (which is uses) isn't very well supported anymore and he really does not want windows 10. it's not going to happen unless I or someone else installs it for him but he is talking about it.
>in linux it'd took a complete afternoon minimum it's not 2004 anymore. it wouldn't that long if you knew what to look for. same applies for windows. people are simply not familiar with anything linux. to change that, i taught my dad how to use basic linux utilities and hope to completely switch to linux as nobody does anything besides browsing web.
Nicholas Brooks
parents, depending on their skill, can actually be really happy with linux. my old 69 year old mother uses it. she has no idea how to install something or do much beyond browsing the web and this applies to windows and linux. it's perfect for her, it just works and it's easy to do the very limited things she wants to do.
Leo Wilson
>is Microsoft about to be bankrupt and finished? I am a man with a job and a hobby neither of which are programming or administration (i do real literal technology mates)
And I am currently using linux because it runs Krita really fucking fast and good, it's a real joy to use, faster than PS on windows.
I can tell you while I am managing somehow an OS that requires terminal input from every user will NEVER get widely adopted by normies. One thing linux really needs to take off is to allow users to work with it without even knowing that terminal exists. When a user can perform mundane daily tasks without having to navigate the file systen through a terminal like they can in Windows and Mac OS then Linux will have a chance to take off.
I can tell the software is fast and great and technologically superior, but even today it still isn't user friendly enough, it's made by nerds for nerds who dont realize that 99.9% of people out there dont have the fucking time to learn the terminal.
