Just got a free MacBook 13in. late 2010 model. Would installing an ssd with High Sierra on it make it slower than it already is? It's running capitan currently on the original 250gb hdd.
Just got a free MacBook 13in. late 2010 model...
install Gentoo on it. It's what any reasonable person does on Jow Forums(besides buying a thinkpad instead of any other computer
Give it back Tyron.
If you are not sure, install the current version of the system on an SSD.
You won't notice much difference between El Capitan and High Sierra for speed or memory use.
The SSD wil help, increase the RAM if you can. Then go and reduce all graphics heavy effects as much as you can. Used to use a MBP 2010 with a Core2Duo and the OSX is painful on it. Just install Manjaro and rice away
Install SSD and max out RAM for performance.
I would personally go for Snow Leopard, that was designed with this in mind.
You'll also want to make sure that it avoids overheating or whatever other fault retarded apple engineering will give it. Expanding the RAM can fuck you up if you do it like a retard and don't select the correct modules which use the least amount of voltage as possible. I was able to get 1.35V RAM sticks in my T420 a while ago and it works like a dream, whereas most people will use 1.5V. I don't know how it actually works but I had a friend who had his get fried because he overloaded it with RAM
I have one. Best OS that will not stutter like hell is snow leopard or windows.
Don't even bother to try newer versions of os x on it. Anyway, I did it with an HDD not with a ssd so, who knows how it may perform.
Problem is, snow leopard doesn't accept certificates anymore. There is just one browser that is still receiving updates but it doesn't work very well.
macOS and Windows are going to run like ass on it even after upgrades. The graphics card in eat shit trying to do anything with El Capitan.
Just Linux the thing and get on with it.
Is El capitan also defunct? I know nothing about Mac os
>MacBook 13in
>late 2010 model.
>250gb hdd.
I highly doubt you can make use of that garbage.
Just throw it in the trash can and get Thinkpad.
That model came with a 120Gig HD so a new SSD the same size will be cheap.
Use 1x4Gig and 1x2Gig SIMM for a max of 6Gig of RAM.
Remember, this Mac is nearly 10 years old. It's a Core2Duo.
It was
>F R E E
I thought the maximum amount of ram you could put in these is 2gb? It's got 2 1gb modules in there right now. I'm also aware of the age, but I don't have a laptop so this is better than nothing.
Been using my 2009 since the year it came out. Upgraded a few things and it runs amazingly.
You had to complain more...
Install Linux. Not because it's the Jow Forums thing to do, because MacOS sucks ass. If you are on Jow Forums, you probably already thought of it. Put in an SSD and install Linux. Or MacOS, I can't stop you.
dumb anime poster
older ddr3 ran @ 1.5V stock and newer runs at 1.35v
Your mom just called user. She wants me to check and see if your wearing your special helmet that the doctors gave you.
SSDS ARE DIRT CHEAP NOW
GET EVEN THE SHITTIEST NONAME ONE AND IT WILL SPEED EVERYTHING UP
i'm typing on a mid-2010 Pro 13" that's got more or less the same specs as yours. swapped out the HDD with a Kingston UV500 and it runs just like new on High Sierra.
i don't use it for much other than web browsing and word processing, so i'm not sure just how well it'd run under extreme stress. for my needs though, it's plenty fast. i'm not even sure if i wanna increase the RAM from 4 to 8 GB anymore.
...
i'm surviving
Same, except one of my dimm slots died a year and a half ago, so I've been living off the single 4GB stick since then. Been trying to track down a 2015 pro to eventually replace this.
SAVE US BASED SCATMAN
>mid 2009
>el capitan
>already upgraded to 8gb ram
>still crashing and failing to boot randomly
What do next, fuck. Can I stick an ssd in it and save it?
hot
you should've done that a long time ago lol. your hard drive's failing you
I guess I didn't notice it because the symptoms are different from the last time I had a failing drive on a mac
So I'll give it a shot then
This. I've got a 2012 with an i5, SSD and max 16GB RAM, runs great.
SSD will rejuvenate some pretty ancient hardware.
