iPhones have a mode where it enters a sort of hibernation where it basically goes into a coma and uses the battery as an IV drip. Samsungs don't have this because it has a bigass battery in the first place so it keeps everything running at max.

Na, most of it just comes down to the fact that Apple completely controls the wake cycle of the device when the screen is off while on Android any application can wake up the device to do some background task.
