Something about the nature of the show, it is too slow and subtle to be appreciated by a lot of people.

It is kind of past its heyday though. Season 7 was the last great one. I'll always prefer the first 5 seasons for being the absolute driest and pretty much completely centered around the idiosyncrasies of Tim and Gregg as opposed to ridiculous and crazy storylines (although I do appreciate those too, even if they completely lost their subtlety in seasons 7 and forward)
