I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Writing a kernel is one thing, but Linux comes with six gorillion drivers, all under GPLv2. Nobody is going rewrite those under a cuck license just so you can use fuschia on everything Linux currently runs on.

The thing is that Linux comes with a lot of drivers for really old shit. Despite the reputation Linux used to have for shaky driver support, I've had a much easier time using my ancient scanner on Linux (I just plug it in and it's instantly recognized and works) than on Windows (on XP it'd get stuck, and on 7 the drivers completely refuse to install for it). Since modern tech companies only care about supporting the latest thing, Google can just ignore the 90% of drivers in Linux that target old shit and instead focus on copying the drivers for newer things. Or better yet, since they're Google and are powerful enough to do this, write the driver first and then dictate for the hardware manufacturers to build hardware that's compatible with their drivers that they make.

I've noticed that a lot of Fuchsia development is geared towards ARM64. At the same time it is projected that ARM processors will gain significant % in the ultrabook market. Google already makes such a device (Pixelbook). So basically Fuchsia will run on the Pixelbook, Pixel phone and maybe a Pixel tablet. Maybe a slimmed down version will run on the Pixel watch. It's sort of what Apple is doing and has been trying to do with converging their iOS and MacOS platforms on their devices. Google is going to build this from the ground up.

If it is as useless as ChromeOS than no.

The "Linux Operating System" doesn't exist. What exists is the GNU operating system running on top of Linux, a kernel.
None of which will be replaced by Fuchsia in the near future because:
1. Fuchsia is a phone/tablet OS. Not a desktop or server OS.
2. Most of the users running GNU do it on servers or desktop and Linux has plenty of uses in embedded systems. Android is not GNU or Linux, and as such its disappearance wouldn't really change anything in that regard.
3. The most important tech companies; Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon rely on GNU and/or Linux for their business:
3.1 Most of Alphabet's servers run GNU/Linux and it's used by many of their engineers. Changing the OS would be unfeasible and unnecessary.
3.2 Microsoft is selling GNU as their Unix compatibility layer for Windows (wrongly called "Linux Subsystem for Windows 10" since there's literally no Linux code running at all, it's the GNU OS running on top of the NT kernel) and also they're selling several GNU/Linux distros for their Azure servers.
3.3 Amazon relies on GNU/Linux for their AWS servers and their entire server backbone runs on top of GNU/Linux.
3.4 I'm not really sure about Apple. They might be using GNU/Linux on their servers, FreeBSD or a modified version of either. Either way they wouldn't change them for Fuchsia the same way they haven't replaced WebKit with Blink.
4. Android is still an Open Source operating system. Even if Alphabet replaced their phone OS with Fuchsia, the community will continue to develop and maintain Android for several years; especially now that Project Treble makes it trivial to develop and install custom ROMs.

So no, Fuchsia isn't going to replace GNU or Linux any time soon.

Nothing is going to happen in the near future because the threats of devs to pull code are empty and the people at the top realize this. That said, linux will probably continue going in a 'post-meritocracy' direction for ordinary devs since they know there wont be any real resistance while development will be lead by corporations

Being totally honest, I thought Fuchsia was a replacement kernel for Android, not an entire Android replacement. I tend to ignore the phone world because I only buy a new phone when mine is absolutely and completely fucked after 3-4 years of use.
