>Be hardcore libertarian >Dislike what tech industry is doing to silence speech. >Think: What if I make a site that doesn't silence people? >Be babby's first web developer and manage to make the site >Ask Jow Forums for help >Jow Forums actually fucking helps and has been a tremendous assistance so far
The story continues. I'm an open book. I am willing to share my code and things have ramped up a bit with the number of people visiting. Over time something could happen. Right now the site isn't really big or anything but it is gaining traction. I want to discuss code and possible things to help fix the site.
Things can be very detail oriented so I set up a discord just in case you want to hop in and chat. discord.gg/zDTTdh
Just post here, no need to tell everyone to join your personal mini-reddit, faggot.
Aiden Butler
the only issue is a lot of the tasks required can honestly be highly in depth. For people who are serious coders need a simple way of communicating that simply cannot be met with a 2000 word limit.
Jacob Nguyen
Yeah I can post here that's fine. Just tell me your suggestions and I can respond right here.
Chase Robinson
Bro why are you ignoring the biggest piece of advice given to you so far? I've been in almost every thread you've made, and you've stuck with the same name. Just user firstamender.com
Lucas Moore
>babby's baby's
Jack Garcia
couple of things with this. right now i have FirstAmender which does a redirect. The issue I have with the redirect is it leads to a 3 second+ load time to the homepage. I don't want that. So i'm just keeping it simple of 1stAmender.com.
Keep in mind I've been trying to get into the habit of making the A big so it is readable. Someone reads it as "First Amender" not "Once'd Amender"
>3second + scratch that. it's 10 seconds. People are already using 1stAmender.com + it's indexed to all hell by now by google. It might not be a smart move to switch it now.
Kevin Foster
IRC or even XMPP exist. There's still no reason to announce to everyone your mini-reddit.
Nicholas Adams
dude it's literally just an easy tool. It's not populated. It's not filled with trash. It just provides good reference and is a good tool. That's it.
John Brooks
>being THIS new
Brayden Thompson
Not that user, I personally usually ignore your threads. I just want to say that I read it as "one stamender" at first, and not only do I have no idea what a stamender is thus telling me nothing about what's the website about, but starting with a number makes it sound like it's one of those advertising domains which are registered by the dozen and have the same name but with a number. Like "ww13.ads.whatever.clicknetwork.whatever.com" or "www.7adserver.eu46.thingamajig.maliciousadnetwork.com". You really don't want that association. And URLs aren't gonna be capitalized, so all copy-pastes will still read as "1 stamender", plus a lot of people will just not care about how you try to capitalize it and do it the easy way.
That doesn't mean you can't grow. And certainly after a couple of seconds anyone will realize that the name actually means, and after a little while will get used to the shitty looking URL. But unless you get as big as google or something, you're still gonna have gaining new first-time visitors as a major concern, and putting them off from the get-go like that will only hurt you.
I don't know much about SEO but isn't there a way to get google to transfer your ranking to a different domain? Maybe it could even happen automatically if you redirect with the HTTP "Permanently Moved" status code? Either way, better switch now while you're still relatively small, than be stuck with it when you become actually moderately big, unless you don't plan on growing much more than your current size.

>It's not filled with trash. Teach me how to connect to it without accepting the trash T&Cs that make them collect all my messages then, and also please host somewhere other than on the trash official servers provided by the literal data mining and collection company, and then I will be happy to encourage your use of it Oh wait also the client is trash too but I think there are bridges using Pidgin or whatever so that's less of a concern

>someone posts CP >go to jail for life for being a CP distributor

>someone posts cp >I remove it as soon as I see it.
Not hard to remove bad articles.
Jack Hernandez
Holy shit lurk more faggot
Carson Gomez
How's this different from a website like Medium?
Jordan Harris
It's not owned by a giant conglomerate that silences people. I hope that is a good enough answer.
James Brown
Seems like &totse 2bh
Caleb Hill
So, you monitor every contribution 24/7?
And it doesn't really matter how fast you remove it, btw. It's a matter of whether or not they feel like making an example of you. Plenty of site developers have gone to prison for exactly that.
Do yourself a favor and incorporate so you can't be held personally responsible.
The problem isn't the tech industry. The problem is centralisation. Even if this site gets big you're still just one guy that has to be intimidated to silence thousands of people.
If you try a decentralized approach you will see scum that'll post the most unforgivable shit.
You can't solve this problem with tech alone.
Liam Brown
>make free speech website >attracts people banned from other platforms >fill up with Jow Forums, nazis and worse than Jow Forums-tier incels >normal people see that mess and flee if they ever stumble into your site >activists move against your site saying "look, he's harboring nazis" >domain locked, dns pulled, payment processing shut down
Good luck user. You'll need it.
Noah Thompson
It is already an LLC and the registration is already private. You can't really sue anybody. I've already received a scare tactic from someone and that is what prompted the private registration.
hahahaha
Jace Cruz
And how do you know this site isn't?
Oliver Baker
nice effort OP
I have two questions >how are you gonna deal with illegal FBI partyvan type stuff
>how are gonna protect yourself if someone uses the domain info to go after you
apart from that, let me know if you need any help related to programming
Ryan Scott
I know. I have plans in place for these nightmares happening.
First: hardcore crazies aren't getting banned... but people like Alex Jones are. I don't like Alex Jones in particular but he is just the start. It will only get worse from here. Or at least I am banking on it getting worse. With that being said I have an eclectic community filled with anarchists, socialists, centrists, and even a lady who just talks about her positive-vibes podcast. It's supposed to be a mixed bag.
I am aware that my site could get pulled. I am backing up my site almost daily. When it goes down, I buy server space overseas and open up shop there. I would have my website up same day.
Jace Torres
I know my site isn't because I'm the one who coded everything. You don't of course. But that's okay. Doubt is okay. I can deal with that.
Thomas Turner
Good questions.
>how are you gonna deal with illegal FBI partyvan type stuff I am personally tailoring the results. I understand I could become some banning crazy but seriously there would only be removal of content if it can clearly destroy other people's right to 'write'.
>how are gonna protect yourself if someone uses the domain info to go after you It's a private registration. But if they get the private info then that is a breach of contract. We pay for the privacy to begin with. Also.. I'm not doing anything illegal. I find it crazy we start to think I am doing something illegal when I provide someone a platform. We have to change that mindset.
Cameron Peterson
r9k is pretty soft now, roasties and their orbiters plus the highschool normies have taken over the place. the incels got cucked out of their own board lmao
Jaxon Flores
>hardcore crazies aren't getting banned... but people like Alex Jones are. Ok, first of all, isn't Alex Jones exactly a "hardcore crazy"? That's his entire fucking schtick. Secondly, isn't your own schtick to host free speech and shit? You name your website "1st amender", put how much you value free speech in the blurb, etc. Banning someone because "you don't like them" is the polar fucking opposite of free speech.
Caleb Reyes
every single free-speech social media alternative gets flooded by Jow Forums-tier people and no normal person or leftist will ever go there good luck with your echo-chamber
Anthony Cox
Yeah. I would let Alex Jones speak. Nothing he was saying was illegal in any way.
Everyone deserves a right to speak. I don't care if you're an extremist. You get to write. That's the point.
Jacob Torres
Discord is trash and real time reddit. Fuck off
Carson Harris
I ain't joining the discord botnet man, but I'm here if you need help with code. used to work as a python/js webdev
Kayden Miller
Because Jow Forums tier people get pushed out of other on line communities for being shit.
Brandon Gomez
Its called a blog
Dominic Cruz
Let me guess its just going to be another alt right echochamber ala gab
Justin Sanders
Are you OP? Now I'm confused.
OP, would you or would you not ban Alex Jones?
Isaiah Baker
I am OP. I would not ban Alex Jones. Crazy yes, not a bad person though. Doesn't call for actively harming people.
no... how is an open door an echo chamber?
