I've heard they're assigning more engineers to work on GPUs since the release of Zen.Hopefully now that they're not bleeding money they can hire more talent

Ray tracing is actually cheap in terms of hardware. Nvidia actually doesn't have a ray tracing ASIC, they just have little shitty quarter precision cores they're using for it.
A stand alone 10w ImaginationTech accelerator would still be better at ray tracing than a brand new Nvidia GTX 2080ti.

Nvidia doesn't even have their own ray tracing api top to bottom, they're just using their own backend for Microsoft's DX ray tracing.

i agree. this is potentially a step forward in the longer term but a hilarious step backwards for use of GeForce real estate, millimetre-wise. GTX 2060 best cement that fact and fuck off with the tensor cores for this generation too as to cut down on heat wastage and price.

raytracing will come together as the years pass but not before AMD and/or Intel compete and tell them to ‘fuck off’ off of gimmick PhysX-levels of clown indecent exposure. NVIDIA has always gone for the anus before feeling for the question of what you put in your stomach this morning.
