Thanks for the info, but that sounds like a really retarded design.

I have this exact system, with riced out arch it runs fine. I even write js apps in it. Once it starts swapping tho...

There's a reason cheap, used Thinkpads are shilled.

Nigga this laptop is like the 2nd generation of the stream:

I have an ASUS x205t and it suffers in exactly the same way. It was fine at first but modern windows updates literally kill the machine and there's bloat on the storage that I don't know where it's from, there's something fucked with windows and wireless drivers that cause so many packages to install for no reason whilst pic related is my desktop install. But the laptop has been relegated to watching movies on the train because the 12+hour battery and low weight is actually pretty handy still.

Don't even bother. Jow Forums wants a 200 dollar laptop with 16gb ram 2tb HDD and the newest i7

Do you happen to know the name for it in in the EU? Looks nice

SO YOU CAN PUT LINUX ON IT BODHI OR PUPPY

The fuck, dude? Buy a Prestigio SmartBook 133S. It has 4 GB RAM for the same price and 32 GB SSD instead of HDD. The screen is 13.3" 1080p matte IPS, also.

paid 300 for it. (w541)

replaced one 4gb stick with an 8gb one, so 20gb
have a smart card reader, and the FP/CS bezel sitting in a box, waiting for long weekend next week.

Why are Thinkpads so ugly? People would laugh at me if I brought that thing into Starbucks.

Not if you bring a X1 carbon

>mint
Why?

Still got the godawful red highlighting

TRUE

I like it anyway.

I'm new to Linux and heard it was good for beginners

I bought a 2 in 1 used from ebay for around $50.
2 gb ram
32gb emmc
128GB SD supported (I think)
Somewhat decent battery

It has Windows 10 but I wanted to replace it with something lightweight. It can run linux in virtualbox flawlessly so I haven't had much reason to switch yet.

Also 1080p screen and decent feeling keyboard for what I paid. Biggest downside is the charger is too weak to charge when it is on, even when it is in sleep mode.

>powerful enough for most normie stuff
HAHA fuck you mate. these can hardly run w10 idle good luck actually using one of these fuckers
and don't say 'oh just use linux :^)' since then you have left the normie realm

Mint is ez and runs well. Great for home computers where you'd like things to just werk.

got a hyundai onyxx II recently. only complaint so far is the power button is a key on the keyboard

People will laugh at you if you bring anything besides a Macbook into Starbucks. Also why are you going there? They let homeless people and niggers chill around for free.

it just screams "normie"

id like to see a regular poorfag general that showcases cheap shitty setups put together by broke students, the underemployed, neets, e-waste center hoarders, etc

>"6gb ram, user? thats an odd number to settle on"
>"i pulled 2gb from a laptop on the street that had already been run over by a few cars and it still worked! rip the hdd tho"

can you watch HD videos on it ?
how fast does it boot and launch programs ? I'm considering buying a chromebook to install GalliumOS on it

I just bought an HP Stream 14 with an N4000 for 115$. How'd I do?

Texas instrument had these in the 80's

Windows 10 can live with 2GB ram, much bigger problem is that it will occupy 31.5 GB out of available 32 immediately upon installation of updates.

I have this still sealed and I don't even want to think about how difficult it is to sell this shit

>I don't even want to think about how difficult it is to sell this shit
Just use it as a travel laptop.
The battery lasts forever and its practically disposable

My T60 that has been beaten to shit. The space bar has been worn down to a near-mirror sheen. I'll be legitimately sad when it finally dies.

I used to have a shit box too but it had actual XP drivers so I can downgrade to it make it manageable on limited resources, but I don't think Stream has diddly shit except for Windows 8-10. Feel free to correct me.

You're new, aren't you?
HP business lines have nothing to do with their consumer lines

>HD videos
Screen is 1366x768 and quite blue, but it handles them fine
>how fast does it boot and launch programs?
Boot time is longer than most SSD machines because it uses eMMC and the bios that replaced the default one has a bit of hang time. Still reasonably fast because of the eMMC being better than a HDD. But storage capacity in this unit is 16GB, so keep that in mind. Program speed is fine for office stuff, web browsing, CLI programs, MPV, and other light offline stuff. Don't expect it to be any good at CAD or gaming though, because it's just a 5W dual core celeron.

I am posting on the King of shitboxes, the Asus E403NA. 11.6 inch, 4GB RAM, 64 GB emmc, trash display. Win 10 pro.

Paid about $170. It's great for portability and getting basic shit done.

I had one of those. Did a fresh clean install of Windows from Microsoft's website fixed a lot of shit and removed a lot of crap that was preinstalled.

Dude I love my shitbox. I didn't know how much I loved passive cooling silence until I got it. Now it's almost hard to go back to my main laptop because of the fan noise. Shitboxes make shitposting a joy.

How can you shill something that no longer makes the manufacturer any money because all sales are second hand

What are you doing that this thing would need to throttle you?

>opens more than two tabs at once
>opens word

Attached: 1527982936590.png (1022x399, 404K)

That's the best part.

that would make a killer OpenBSD machine

Does it run linux well?

Anything that maxes out CPU for more than 20 seconds or so will throttle to a fraction of the processor speed. Look at any review. Fanless x86 has extreme throttling issues.

If only openbsd had the Nvidia drivers for it.

I literally just lost an auction for one.
Can it play neir automata and MGR:R?

>great CPU, only throttles when you use it
>great keyboard, only breaks when you get dust on it
>very thin, just need dongles if you want to plug anything in
>fast SSD, just loses all data if any part of the board fails
>only $0 stolen
i think we have a clear winner

Attached: Screenshot_20180712-105523.jpg (1080x2160, 420K)

Oh, my mistake. Apologies sir, have a blessed day

MGR:R - maybe
NierA - only with eGPU

Got this and run ubuntu with lxde. Got it because it was only $280aud. Runs fine and doesn't lag or freeze up

>M.2

lrn2dism

That's a shame, fuck those shitty quadro CPU's.
I could eGPU my W520 and it would probably have about the same performance.
The W541 would be stuck using expresscard for eGPU right?

Anything HP makes is shit.

install gentoo, seriously

>fisher-price
>not durable

By the time it finishes compiling Linux will have dropped support for the hardware.

Jesus, just get a Macbook. Same functionality as these shitboxes, just "prettier" and you can brag about spending money on overpriced shite.

try a fedora live usb. They usually have a very current kernel + drivers. If everything on your machine works I would install fedora/arch/manHARO with something lightweight like xfeces or MATE

are you me?

Attached: Screenshot from 2018-10-01 09-52-08.png (747x282, 49K)

you could try playing spyro 3 with mednafen?
Is it easy to open up? They're cheap as fuck on ebay but I would probably have to repaste and replace the battery.
