I'm actually in the process of doing so. That's why the Thunderbird icon is smaller. A lot of those are custom made already as well. It's a process.

Which ones should I specifically change? Like the OSBuddy one I did the blue party hat since it's part of the game and already old school looking. I know I need to make the Thunderbird icon larger but I'm having issues with it down scaling even though I enlarge it but I'll figure that out myself.

The image is compressed to hell so I can't get a good look at all of the icons. WLAN, Bluetooth, and battery all need to be changed. Folder icons need to be changed. Thunderbird, Krita, and the other blue icon (qbittorrent?) also need to be changed.

It's far from perfect, but I honestly think it's the most polished modern DE we have. The only real complaint I've got is the performance; just imagine how much better Gnome would be if it had the smoothness of KDE.

you can disable compositing in KDE

kwin itself is still slower than something like openbox and still causes stuttering and misbehaves with intel's lag free TearFree option

defiantly not debian

It's not Debian based but openSUSE is the best KDE experience out of the box. They've even patched out the thumbnail issue in Firefox by default. The second best is probably KDE Neon, though you'll probably be stuck with a third party patch for Firefox if you want the file picker to work right.
