Windows 10 1809 is some serious bullshit RN

The atrocious dark mode aside...

It's deleting user files, user profiles, revoking settings, installing two year-old drivers, completely botching up working drivers, stuttering in Edge, stuttering in general, and... oh yeah...

DELETING FILES AND THEN WRITING OVER THE SECTORS THEY WERE ALLOCATED TO.

Jesus Christ, Microsoft has no idea what they should be doing with this design-by-SJW-committee piece of shit operating system.

Windows 10 is the worst thing to ever happen to the PC.

You should be running winserver if you have a desktop anyway

>not using Windows 8.1 with classic shell

>not using Linux

kek, this

>not disabling Windows Update right after installation

I've seen more threads now that point to it breaking network shares in the network explorer, there's another where it causes high CPU usage on systems with Intel network cards, there are BSOD reports, Live Tiles aren't updating because of a profile glitch, AND to top it all off Microsoft's Technet blog is telling people to not use LTSC because of all the "features" you miss by not usng it.

protip:
set your internet connection as "mettered" and never get any updates

I run Linux now, so I don't really care for whatever future Microsoft has in store for Windows 10. But man, this is worse than the 1609 update.

>using windows

Switched to Linux, feels good not to be part of the botnet anymore

Good source

Tell me how you know that you're not part of a botnet right now? Have you inspected the Linux kernal code fully and thoroughly? Have you inspected the code of the distro you're using?
How can you trust the people who supposedly inspect the code for you and the linux community?

protip:
use linux

If you're stupid enough to use a proprietary operating system then you deserve this. Seriously, why do people bitch about Wangblows when they agreed to all of this shit in the EULA.

Is linux good for the games yet?

Grow up.

I have to wonder at what point this can no longer be dismissed as gross incompetence. It has to be malice, nobody is this fucking bad.

It's getting better by the days

More like I'm at the age now where I don't give an honest fuck anymore about trying to impress people I'll enjoy what I enjoy (within obvious legality )

Linux isn't any more secure than Windows
Just because the source code is available doesn't mean
you're safer, and relying on opportunistic hackers and script kiddies that pretend to know what they're looking at when it comes to Kernel code to convince you that you're secure in using LInux just shows how naive people can be. Regardless of how bad WIndows is now, I feel better knowing that I'm being mass spied on by government people and a soulless corporation that doesn't spy on me personally but that I'm just one of many being spied on over some creeper with a background in hacking putting some code in the Linux Kernel or Distro version to spy on me a little bit more on a personal level

I'm not telling you to grow up to impress others, do it for yourself, kid.

use steam play/proton + windows vm with gpu passthrough as a fallback

I remember when the commonly accepted advice was never upgrading Windows to a newer version and just doing a clean install instead. Good to know it still holds true today, except with the added excitement of the OS deciding to automatically Microshaft you at its own leisure and just to make things even more interesting, everyone is just urging you to update because nothing can go wrong and the proven Windows track record of shit breaking really hard doesn't exist anymore apparently.

And the idiots wonder why Windows 7 just refuses to die. Come the fuck on.

>windows vm with gpu passthrough
>buying a second video card so you can play gayms on linux
Yes, good goy.

Because suddenly liking football and hunting instead will instantly improve my life?

For real, what should windows 10 users do? You can't downgrade to 7 and dual booting so you can game will still force you to update whenever Microsoft wants

its possible to do it with a single gpu, i'm doing it right now, brainlet

I was going to address your paranoia in piecemeal, but I don't think it's worth the time taken to tell you, in detail, that Linux is more secure and the people chiefly involved in writing code for the kernel are hired by universities and tech companies to make it better for everyone, because bullshit like backdoors doesn't get past Linus and his team.

OTOH, Linux is more secure than Windows because in Windows you have the "User as an Administrator" approach, which doesn't give you any protection once a privilege escalation attack succeeds and the attacker takes over your entire system.

I'd switch to Linux full time if my system was stable. In Windows it's fine, but I get random freezes (pic related) when using Linux. I haven't been able to figure out if it's some kind of Linux bug, or a hardware issue that Linux pokes and Windows doesn't.

did you try multiple distros?

>sudo justadolphin.sh
Looks secure indeed.

>delay updates for 90 days
>install after all the major bugs are fixed
Wow that's was hard.

this, I just turned on metered connection and all updates are installed way past release date

i didnt lose any files, werks on my machine

Football? No. Hunting? Yes.

you should have gone with openbsd if good engineering is what you wanted

>2018
>Not having LTSB installed

>using an insecure operating system
>denying even the most basic of security updates

Yes, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and OpenSUSE. When the freeze happens....when the freeze happens....when the freeze happens....when the freeze happens....any audio that's playing loops like that. I've spotted some others online with the exact same symptoms but no solution. If it's hardware it's either my motherboard, or graphics card, because I've changed/tested everything else.

Does your favorite game use BattleEye/EasyAntiCheat?
Then no

>Ubuntu, Debian
same os, really
>Fedora, and OpenSUSE
hmm, that is strange
so you changed/tested ram? that really sounds like a memory issue

maybe you could try an arch based distro as a last resort, manjaro is arch without the autism, but it's really not looking good
did you ever check logs in /var/log after the crashes? maybe there was something useful there

>so you changed/tested ram? that really sounds like a memory issue
I haven't changed it (it's a 10+ year old PC) but I left MemTest86+ running for over 48 hours and it didn't find any problems.

Well I mean my point is I'm not gonna suddenly "like" one thing and "not like" another thing that's not how interests/hobbies work.

i guess try an arch based distro and if you do get a crash check the logs in /var/log there will probably be something useful there

I will heed your advice sir/madam.

LTSC user here. Works on my system. Appart from the task manager lol-bugs.

I use my CPU's iGPU for the X server and pass my 1080Ti to QEMU. I dedicate some CPU cores to the VM too. 99% performance, the only problem is that CSGO detects the hypervisor and kicks me in the middle of ranked games.

i use a single gpu passthrough with ryzen and a 970 and i didn't have that problem when I played csgo inside the vm, but now i just downloaded csgo natively on gnu/linux, set up single gpu passthrough user its the patrician way

Have you inspected the design of your CPU's Management Engine?

I installed 1809 on my work computer without checking at like 9:30am
Nothing happened, it’s fine, I went on with my life

Debian GNU/Linux doesn't have this problem.

Windows 7 doesn't have this problem.

Linux Mint doesn't have this problem.

Linux Mint is considered potentially compromised now.

also a really shitty os all around

Just make a Windows 10 recovery disc onto your USB flash drive. If anything goes wrong, just roll back.

tfw too scared to boot into my windows partiotion

Works on my machine

How do you go about switching you mouse and keyboard between VM and host while avoiding any solutions that introduce input lag?

based and redpilled tbqh famalamadingo

it must be for early access peeps right now only because I don't got the update
Hurry and login and go to ethernet settings and turn on metered connection

Attached: rightnow.png (375x124, 2K)

All my files are still there, but my belkin network adapter got fucked

come home to openbsd

it's not tho
neither of these things

t. 13 year old using linux mint as his first gnu/linux os
no worries kiddo, it's still much better to use mint than microsoft's botnet

Linux users aren't this stupid, except the one downloading shit from AUR repos, but they deserve it

I've only started using LInux recently and I'm still learning from a non-programming or tech savvy background. I don't understand that dolphin reference, but I'd probably execute that desu

pee pee pa pa poo poo!

Post Meritocracy for the win

Considering valve is sponsoring wine, and the amount of windows games you can play already on steam with steam play
Yeah

install windows 7

Why not XP? or 95? I mean if you're gonna use shitty outdated software, you might as well go all out.

I LOST MY ENTIRE PORN FOLDER INCLUDING EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND/DELETED FROM THE INTERNET CONTENT. I'M INSTALLING LINUX AS SOON AS O GET HOME

Can we/I help you in some way? This is a tragedy I can empathize with.

I'm just going to commit to no fap I guess. Thank you for your understanding, friend.

1809 works well OP. Stop using shitty hardware. Do a clean install with a recovery USB if you must. Also, avoid the following memes in this thread (they are either obsolete or promoted by paid shills):
>LTSB
>8.1 with classic shell
>7
>Arch
>Manjaro

>not using MacOS
What are you poor?

Exactly Gentoo just works

> avoid the following memes in this thread
> LTSB
No U.

LTSC 2019 or Pro for Workstations? Like, is there a decent version of Win10 among all the trash?

>Microsoft's Technet blog is telling people to not use LTSC because of all the "features" you miss by not usng it.
>'cloud'. enobled. notepad!
>Kandy Krush - The Plague Revisitation!!
>Super Deluxe PayAsYouPlay Solitaire!!!
yeah, uh, thanks 'Technet' and keep dishing out the Koolaid. Wheres that LTSC link?

never used linux in my life but i hate windows more and more with each day passing, since proton apparently works really well i'm considering getting linux on dualboot. total noob though. so question is what the fuck do i do

No, but I don't care about being part of the botnet, does

>install linux to usb flash drive
>change boot order to USB first
>now you are a 1337 hacker

Attached: learning japanese.jpg (759x210, 39K)

In 5 minutes of use I found several bugs:
Broken USB MTP/PTP
Broken media pack on Windows N
Broken bluetooth button/status
Random shit with pagefile on first boot (errors and random pagefile created with random size)

And more, fucking pajeets won't test their shitty os before releases anymore.

I sincerely hope these weren't just stuck in your downloads folder and you used Disk Cleanup and forgot to uncheck the option to clear out Downloads as well.

> Stop using shitty hardware.

This doesn't trigger with shitty hardware. There are tons of bugs with this build that were never present in the insider builds because Microsoft clearly wasn't testing things properly for the final upgrade path.

Notebooks and desktops with some Intel NICs have CPU usage issues. Task Manager doesn't track CPU usage properly. Edge can stutter, and all EdgeHTML apps with it.

There's a lot wrong with this update.

Holy Fuck, tell me wiping the Downloads folder is not a default option FFS. The one inarguable thing about MS 'speshul Foldurs' being tho, they were always the least safest place to leave anything.

but CS:GO runs natively on Linux. Why go through the hassle of running it in a VM?

1. Download Ubuntu 1804.1 LTS from here: ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-you?country=ZA&version=18.04.1&architecture=amd64

2. Using Rufus (rufus.akeo.ie/), install the Ubuntu ISO to a flash drive.

3. Restart your PC and boot into your flash drive. Select the option to try out Ubuntu.

4. Try it out before installing it and get a feel for things like the UI, the Libre Office apps, and so on. Check if your display and GPU are properly detected. See if Youtube playback in Firefox is smooth. Maybe download Chromium, if that's your jam, and see how you like it.

5. Find a spare hard drive to install Ubunu on, and install it to that drive (don't put it on the same drive as Windows, and power down the Windows drive before you install Ubuntu). Now you can dual-boot by switching manually when your PC starts up. Most motherboards allow you to select the boot device by hammering F12 on start-up.

6. Just use Linux as much as you feel comfortable. Try out replacement apps with it. Install a game or two. Explore the App Store and you'll find installers for Discord, Steam, Mumble, OBS, Skype, almost anything you could want.

The point to this is that you don't go cold turkey. Going cold turkey is difficult, so easing into it is the key. Hang out in the Jow Forumslinux_gaming Discord to ask for advice if you're running into an issue.

You got a lotta "Linux distros" in your Downloads folder, friendo.

It would be a shame if something... "happened" to it.

The update broke the mouse pointer somehow, I had it set to the default pointer but it seems to have reverted to the windows 10 aero style pointer instead of the old one.

Selecting the old one also doesn't change it.

To be clear, it's not defaulted to On in the Settings menu. It's in the Disk Cleanup tool, soon to be deprecated, that it might be enabled. I don't have a machine with 1809 installed to check.
