One of the fans on your Sapphire r9 290 isn't working well.
Your options so far:
Replace the faulty fan
Replace the cooling system with a better one.
Thoughts, what do?

Remove the shroud, and attach aftermarket fans directly onto the heatsink.

What kind of fans do you go for ?

vardar fans

>What kind of fans do you go for ?
Me personally. I'd probably just zip tie whatever spare fans I have laying around, and use it until I buy a replacement for the 290.

Would such a cheap fan x2 work ? Vardar doesnt seem to be the cheapest option

Do you have any case fans on your case?
Right now I would honestly just repurpose those, and run the PC without the side cover.

It already runs without side cover, no fan cases right now

Well shit. If you're doing it as a permanent long term solution then get the highest cfm fans that you can afford.
So shop by cfm not brand, or price.

If you're doing it as a quick fix temp solution then whatever fan you could get would be fine for the time being as long as it doesn't get too hot.

It'd be more for a permanent solution.Would you be able to guesstimate an acceptable CFM for this ?

>Would you be able to guesstimate an acceptable CFM for this ?
Just check pcpartpicker, and sort by cfm then pick the best fan that would fit within your price range.

But don't spend too much as it might be better to just put money into a new GPU.

>One of the fans
1. Put the working fans on the left hand side of the card.
2. Make sure temps are fine during normal use.
2a. Increase fan speed if card is too hot.
3. Order new fans (2-3, so you have spares)
4. Replace fan when new fans arrive.

The third fan isn't really needed, as the left two fans are much closer to the GPU die.

>r9 290
replace the gpu

Do you advise against the general opinion of replacing the whole cooling system ?

But a couple of decent fans would probably be better than any cooling even on future cards, right ?

>The third fan isn't really needed
but it's the most efficient one because there's no PCB beneath the heat sink and cool air can do its job better

this

this

that

Thank you for participating to the discussion, but I had this part covered

>replacing the whole cooling system
I wouldn't. Sapphire's coolers are really good.

>efficient one
It's the furthest away from the heat source, so the heatpipes are inefficient at that distance.
Also, the finstack is vertical, so all the fans will work very well.

If my cooler was starting to die andI wasn't planning to upgrade soon anyway I'd probably just take the opportunity to put it on water once and for all.
