My boss gave me a $1000 Visa gift card to get him a laptop and told me to keep the change under the condition that I research the hell out of it and make a solid purchase that will last him for several years. He wants a fast computer for handling applications but is less concerned about having a shitkicker of a video card. Also, a SSD is a must, preferably 256 gigs, and no Apple bullshit.
After consulting with a few people and message boards, I thought I had found the laptop in a Lenovo Thinkpad. However, after looking into it, it seems like there is a potentially significant issue with its fingerprint reader and its drivers, and knowing my boss this is the kind of things that will drive him apeshit. So I am continuing my search. Any suggestions?

With that type of money, you can get a XPS aftermarket or a XIAOMI Laptop.
You bring a thinkpad in and he is going to look at it and be like "This thing is huge, wtf user". He is probably a normie and into thin laptops.
Also the fingerprint is a bit finicky. I just turned it off. There are versions of thinkpads with the fingerprint sensors.
