Bloat. That's all there is to it. Utility has not increased, only the requirements for a bare minimum system for writing documents and posting on facebook. Amazed by how snappy my Pentium III is with appropriate software. Can do things online too, but have to be very selective with sites and avoid ones bloated with javascript.

Because Apple always focuses on graphical eyecandy, so their UIs use heavy graphical effects to keep apple babbies happy with their toys.

The pentium demo doesn't have such heavy graphical effects and high resolution pixel density.
