>t440p looking good
>1600x900
>suposeddly 3+ hour battery
>500GB HDD
>around 300$
did I do good? I'm waiting
I wanted a T430 but all had shit battery life and it was hard to find the 900p screen or them not looking like raped shit

>1600x900
>HDD
Why?

also there is a guy selling T60s 120GB HDD 2GB RAM with new batteries like at $100, but I wanted something good that didn't look like shit on uni. Plus, gnome uses like 2GB with a lot of tabs on firefox, even if it were i3 that's like 1300MB so I don't think it would be usable enough for VM and shit. I want to learn meme haxing
I bought the ones with blue sticker because supposedly they are better, separate ground channels, no crossfeed unless I use a plug in for my player. Other than that they should be the same and I love mine, I wish I got the red ones since they look sexy af desu. But I read the blue ones are closer to the CD900ST, the originals which are good as fuck apparently; japanese people praise them over any other headphone, M50X and those V6, but they also like the 7506 (but a bit less too).
So my advice is buy the CD900ST if you like specifically the red sticker

How can I remove these scratches om the rubberised paint of my Memepad?

Attached: 1538865054232.jpg (1280x956, 161K)

I don't want to wait months for the chinese 1080p kit for the t430 model, which probably has problems if it works at all. I also was tempted to buy an x230 but they probably are too small for me, T440 I saw in an office was cute small

which loonex distro just werks with an optimus thickbad? I got a T530, and the two solutions are to:
-run bumblebee, which doesn't work seamlessly as I have to do optirun before running programs with some performance loss,
-install PRIME, which runs programs on only one card at a time...until it turns out that both cards are actually activated (thus wasting energy even more)
Seems like I have to manually activate only one card through the BIOS to fully get their optimisations (powersaving, or graphics performance) at which point I might as well just install windows.

ubuntu although I just installed LTS and it didn't work, I guess I have to troubleshoot
kali
debian (this has been the most just werks so far for me but packages are old, non free software like steam won't work although spotify worked)
and huh, Fedora

What was the most portable thinkpad prior to the x1 carbon?

Attached: antegrove148.png (640x400, 45K)

Thinkpads don't have a true optimus mode
Either you have both cards on or just the intel.
Your best bet is bumblebee (you can change the executable to optirun X if it's that annoying to you)
the nvidia cards are shit anyway so there's no point, I only keep them enabled because they give you one more display and normal, and because they're better at handeling a CRT shader on retroarch than the intel graphics.
You're not going to be playing any actual games on a T530 kek

Also adding on this, older shitpads with AMD graphics actually work flawlessly, including switching and running in discreet only mode.
#justNvidiathings

I would argue the X300. In many ways it was actually better than the X1 Carbon, despite the extremely weak processor.

I'm a brainlet. Can someone direct me to 8 GB RAM I can install on my x220?

Hi can I post here if I have an IdeaPad.

I told you to stop being autistic and deal with it

DDR3L SODIMM up to 1866Mhz (with whitelist bios)

Why? An IdeaPad might be manufactured by Lenovo but it is not a business laptop by any stretch of the imagination. Go to /ltg/

I can plug the rest into amazon, but what do you mean "whitelist bios?"

>i-it doesn't have a docking port so its not a real laptop

custom bios that removes the hardware whitelist and unlocks advanced bios features
x220.mcdonnelltech.com/resources/

who AC 7260 here, feels good not being an 802.11AClet

And I told you that's not possible, user

Got AC 8265 in mine, it's so fast that plugging in ethernet for file transfers is basically irrelevant.

here, this will probably make it look worse
amazon.com/Performix-11203-Multi-Purpose-Coating-Aerosol/dp/B0006SU3QW/

Right after buying my ThinkPad, I updated its BIOS. But I see that there are some individual updates to fix the vulnerabilities of the Intel Management Engine available here: pcsupport.lenovo.com/es/es/downloads/ds014884

Do I need to install this update? Or the BIOS update already covered this problem?

Attached: mp,550x550,matte,ffffff,t-c,22,2,0,352.u1.jpg (528x352, 22K)

Lucky you, my came with a big piece of missing rubber removed with actual power tools in an attempt of the company who used it to remove the Security Mark
I just get used to it and i don't get annoyed by it anymore

The spectre-meltdown-checker script (github.com/speed47/spectre-meltdown-checker) tells me everything is okay, so I guess I'm safe?

Just got a t480s i5 for $800, good deal?

Should i buy a lenovo thinkpad x300 for $30? I plan on running linux on it but i dont know if i should run mint or ubuntu.

Yeah that's a very good price.

what is this port?
Also it is closed in my thinkpad, how do i open it?

Attached: lenovo-laptop-thinkpad-t470-gallery-05.jpg (1060x596, 31K)

You shouldn't run trannix on a business workstation anyway.

So there's no way to buy a cheap thinkpad with a battery that lasts more than 2 hours?

Buy a cheap thinkpad and a cheap thinkpad battery

Yeah and from what I'm reading those cheap batteries last 2-3 hours at best. That's a bit low

It is a smart card reader. If it looks closed, maybe it is not there. It is an option, not a standard.

thinking about getting t480 or t480s, mainly for dev. is a WQHD screen worth getting? also, how's the portability on the t480?

Just got some sweet surplus X40s, only downside is they had the drives pulled and no charge cables, gonna see if I get em working again.

Same question here

It makes everything really smol.

I doubt a 9-cell battery would last only three hours.

So I've reflashed the BIOS on my x200, but I can't install (specific packages for) parabola because my ethernet port isn't working. On the Libreboot FAQ they say:
>"This was observed on some systems using network-manager. This happens both on the original BIOS and in libreboot. It’s a quirk in the hardware."
However, sudo service network-manager restart doesn't find any network-manager service, and sudo service dhcpcd restart doesn't seem to do anything.
Anyone else had this issue? How do I fix?
Thanks

Plasti dip that shit or buy a new lid.

>mint or ubuntu
Mint if you want a windows like experience. Xubuntu or Lubuntu if you go down that route. I'd go for Manjaro personally though.

>9-cell battery
But they're more expensive than a thinkpad itself. I could buy a brand new laptop for that price. I'm only considering thinkpads because they're cheap as fuck.

did you correctly copy over the mac address?

Would that affect functionality? I'm quite sure I did, but I'll double check

All right I've had it with that shitty battery life.
X230 here, what battery should I buy and how long should I expect it to last?

Attached: 1534130943808.jpg (1575x900, 376K)

Do you guys happen to know of any good gtk themes that match the black and red Thinkpad color scheme? I've found very few they were either broken or just ugly.

>X230 here, what battery should I buy
lenovo battery, you can't use 3rd party ones post **20

Is this lenovo? Sorry for the retarded link.

The chink ones are around 30 euros. I have never used one, but I doubt they would be so bad.

I think I just found a way to get bootable NVME on my T440p (without cutting holes or anything degenerate like that). Wish me luck.
Worst case I'll end up with a chink m2242 NVME that I'll just have to find a use for somewhere else.

That's BS. All the decent 3rd parties have cloned the lenovo DRM chips so they work fine. Just don't buy bargain basement ones.

just get an ebay chink battery

paid £15 for a 9 cell for my x220

What's the point then?

ok been piecing together a shitty travel x220 that wouldn't bother me if it got stolen or destroyed. the idea was to build something functional with the least-missed parts out of my thinkpad hoard:

>i7 x220
>broken displayport, unreliable usb3 port
>cracked plastic, rubberized coating worn down to the metal on the edges, plastic strip on the lid partially detatched
>missing rubber feet, every logo sticker fell off (stored somewhere with weird temps or humidity??)
>took out ips, switched with tn from a much nicer i5 x220
>touchpad extremely jumpy, turned off in bios
>dual band n6205 replaced single band n1000
>64gb msata ssd from a scrapped gen 1 surface
>2x2gb ram @ 1066mhz (1866mhz with bios mod possible for reference)
>4-cell battery to save a few ounces and lower profile, lasts maybe 1h30m
>[preferred linux distro] installed
>the classic fuzzy clit out of the trackpoint 3-pack, already worn down smooth

post your shitty beater thinkpad

A pristine x220.

what's the new thinkpad equivalent? I want something modern that's not lenovo

How many \G\ discords out there?

>Discord
Into the trash it goes.

i want a cheap small thinkpad.
the only thing that really matters to me is the display, i want a FullHD IPS without any issues
which thinkpad should I go for?

hi is this too expensive for an x220?
128gb

Attached: tp.png (867x275, 169K)

my new thinkpad makes buzzing/whirring noises after a couple days of use, is that normal?
i have an ssd

Yes.

X240 can take FHD IPS, may need a new cable (eDP vs LVDS). Probably the easiest option for small FHD without having to do any actual modding.

I'm about to buy a T470p with FHD screen. The price is good, but is buying a FHD instead of WQHD on 14" a mistake? I'm not talking about resolution but general display quality. Is WQHD a lot better? What do you think? It is not a desktop replacement for me, and even if - I have external monitors. Currently I have T430 and screen quality is awful. I don't want another laptop with such shitty display.

If my thonkpad runs 48C regularly, is it worth getting a better heatsink or is it just a meme?

Attached: IMG_20181007_142212.jpg (721x1303, 101K)

I mean if you don't like the FHD panel just swap it out for a better quality IPS 14in panel. The one I put in my T440p the other week is really nice (and I would assume would work in T470p unless they changed from eDP to something else?)

The B140HAN series are nice matte panels, some people don't like the type of coating though - they are similar in texture to earlier Dell Ultrasharp monitors if you are familiar. Good colour accuracy but you lose a bit of 'pop'.

what the fuck dude!?
I live in Germany and for that exact same price I get a X250 with FHD IPS on ebay

Sounds like coil whine or some fan stuff. Try cleaning out your fans

i think it might be coil whine. any way to fix that?

Reseat the block or just wait it out. Whenever I have coil whine on graphics card it takes a bit of break in for it to go away.

thanks g

Attached: 34038456162_c4a4b7606f_b.jpg (684x1024, 177K)

Does anyone have any toughts on the M series?
I was thinking about getting a TP but I have lower income and also fuck intel.

Yeah they don't have a docking port but.. I don't have 2k$

thoughts on X1 Carbon 3rd Gen?

You can sometimes track down coil whine down by listening really carefully (a funnel or something can be helpful to isolate it).
If you can push on the component with a finger and the whine stops, then you can probably fix it semi-permanently by putting a blob of silicone adhesive on there.

I found an x201 tablet with a 1.07ghz i5 for 150€. Is it worth getting purely for taking notes in class? Already have an i7 x220 for everything else.

Where's the trap?
