Bros I want to buy an external Sound card and since I am a poorfag I need a solution that shall cost 80 bucks or less. I know that is basically a low end but which is the (closest to the) best option in that range? At least what brand should I look for, Creative or anything else?

Paying for digital distribution cannot be justified.
Don't care about physical copies? Fine, then you should be exclusively pirating.

I got gifted another year of tidal so I don't even care about pirating anymore

I like going filterless.

What is the difference between CD and .iso file of that CD on your HDD, if that .ISO is not DRM protected?

Hi, im on a spotify family plan of my friend so i dont pay anything, but even though i have legal access to all the music, i feel like id rather start buying stuff i like for offline unlimited personal listening and make listening more concious activity contrary to the online everpresent library in my pocket. I remember how i was super excited as a kid for that new CD, the physical copy thats mine.
My plan is to buy cd, listen to them at home and also rip them to a portable music player. What is the best buy for such device? I dont even have proper headphones, now i just carry around those shitty apple earpods i got with iphone 5S

12 centimeters of plastic

forgive me for this retarded question but buying speakers on eBay I can just buy two separate single speakers and I don't have to worry about left and right because theyre the same right

Attached: Screenshot_20181007-053949.png (1440x2560, 676K)

you can use your phone just fine with the right headphones
use any cd drive and download eac to rip the disks

active monitors are usually sold per piece, even new. needs no pair matchning because they're usually all within a small enough production tolerance except for the very cheap shit

thanks I've found some good deals on those krks, they used to be popular and I figured if I could get a pair for less than 200 open box or in good condition I could always put them on Craigslist and get my money back if I'm not into the sound

sounds like a good plan, chances are you like them. never heard the newer generations, but I always thought the earlier model rokits were meh studio monitors but pretty fun speakers to just listen to some music

You need to turn on your pc in order to listen to it

Thinking of picking up a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 to hopefully reduce the hissing my PC monitors produce. Will it help I wonder?

depends on the speakers
unplug everything but the power from them and see what the self noise is, that would be the best you can get. if it's close to what the noise is like with your current sound card then don't bother

most likely, if not go optical

Actually the lowest amount of self-noise is with audio input shorted. So its the worst without input.

Welcome, Patricians.

what do those actually sound like

Just restored this bad boy. Sounds sweet. The ak260 integrated is like the Harmon Kardon citation amps with dual winding transformers.

poverty

Guys i want a cheap but good sounding stereo 2.0
Any suggestion? 20€-30€

at that budget your only option are thrift stores

basically thrift stores only. Or you could just buy cheap Logitech speakers because there's no such thing as cheap and good unless you score.

couple small missions that look bad but work fetch about that where I live

Attached: G-42-FrontA.jpg (970x243, 14K)

My bad. I meant around 60-65.
The one i looked up is genius sp hf 1800A

so i have some Quadral Argentum 520 at the moment, i'm very very impressed by their sonical performance at 250€ and size class.

i'm about to consider to try some of their higher tier bigger sized stuff, shit sounds so clear compared to what i had before

next up is dali zensor 3 and klipsch rp-160 next week guys, very excited!

Lots of magnet for the money. I like seeing a good chunky magnet.
And Lisa Johnston likes em.

>What if I don't want to buy used?
Well, it seems we have a new turntable king.
Belt-drive, has a counterweight, ½" mount and costs $80 after rebate.
youtube.com/watch?v=jsuPHPlNLtA
Plus it seems the cart it comes with is pretty decent, though in my experience those budget Audio-Technica carts are a tad too sibilant, so it'd probably benefit from an Ortofon OM10

-blocks your path-

Attached: IMG_3950.jpg (3024x4032, 1.77M)

Is my path also blocked by a rack between the speakers?

Attached: rs_IMG_1495.jpg (2000x1500, 411K)

Nup, rack is off to the side. Got rid of my Pass Labs gear too.

You already have a new amp or something temp?

Oh and have you already cranked up the JBLs with the same music you liked for the previous big horns and if so how did that compare?

No twang of regret yet about dumping the Harbeths?

Attached: 2bc.png (1000x1000, 268K)

Great detail, coherent. Not a lot of bass, but it is very dry.
The metal dustcap gives strong highs but the harshness is well... under control.
I like them maybe as much as fe103 although they're very different sounding.

Something temp yeah. The new amp is actually better than the Pass stuff imo. Yeah I have and it's amazing. There's some very slight first point reflection issues that can and will be tamed but it's crazy good, I can crank it and the awful harshness that I heard on the cadenza just ain't there. What strikes me most about the JBL is the massive soundstage and crazy pinpoint imaging. Even the bass is imaged perfectly. Vocals hang in the air like they're in the room physically. It's basically like the speakers aren't there, they dissapear. I can't stress how crazy cool or is to hear vocals and midrange sounding instruments like guitars right in front of you. You'd swear there was a speaker in the middle of the room because the sound is insanely directional. Tonality wise, everything is perfect. I actually find the midrange even sweeter than the Harbeths. Bass performance is off the charts. Put on a few movie tracks and aside from my closet door rattling like a bitch (it's broken) bass response was very even. I have the usual room nodes and a suckout at 70hz but I'll worry about that later. Not at all. Two of my non audiophile friends agree that these speakers sound much better and echoed everything I've said.

Attached: IMG_3957.jpg (4032x3024, 2.09M)

i prefer dry myself
i use a light cloth over metal or ribbon tweeters to cut down on the edge

good review

fostex is usually good but that design is ew

You have a small room without any treatment and two corner speakes. You don't even need to measure or listen to know that you cannot have a "even bass response", it would be a fucking rollercoaster there.

Not always true mate.
amcoustics.com/tools/amroc?l=396&w=268&h=264&r60=0.6

>Schroederfrequency: 293 Hz

That's pretty bad, isn't it?

Isn't that gonna give a shit ton of feedback with the turntable sharing a surface with both speakers?

Those only tell what modes exist in the room, not how they are being excited. They also only work well if the room has strong rectangular symmetry.
Driving the opposite modes symmetrically cancels out the modes that form in that manner. The axial modes between the speakers are ideally minimized, but the axial modes along the length of the room and the floor/ceiling are driven maximally.

Why you removed your post about how those JBL sounded, whats your problem?

>solid state
>good audio
pick one.

>floor/ceiling
Virtually any pic you see online ever has the sub on the floor.

So can you guys red pill me on vintage cd player? Recently I've used my old dvd player, connected it to my current pair of speakers and I've noticed that its dac It's way better than the one on my pc. Then I came to the conclusion that if a crappy jvc from mid 2000s sounds good, a proper cd player would sound even better. So what specs should I look for in a vintage cd player? Any particular brand/model that's recommended?

Well if you want a full red pill - don't get a vintage CD player. Buy a DAC if you need one.

There are still modes present but with less spatial variation. The dependency on altitude is still present. Your point being?

topping D10.
does everything.

it's designed to be a talkback/intercom monitoring bitch that can be thrown around for mobile production

Spotify is $3 a month.

I'm an asshole if I post and asshole if I don't post xd

Attached: Yamaha NS 5000.jpg (740x740, 66K)

Weird studio. If following dolby standards the speakers would be lower, yet if it's just an old photo it seems like there are two extra speakers beyond a 7.1 setup..unless both side surrounds are in series...

>when you try to flex but can't take a fleck of constructive criticism

Nobody called your asshole as far as I remember. I told you that "even bass response" in that room with that speaker positioning is very unlikely. You can actually check it yourself by buying a $80 microphone. I don't think that is big money for you. You probably will want to buy a microphone anyway, if you are interested in even better sound reproduction, as it the fastest way to find best listening position.

Is it bad I like my mhdt labs dac better than my "objectively neutral" odac and topping d30?

Attached: IMG_20180727_055602.jpg (3036x4048, 3.64M)

sweet lava lamp

No

Also is that a single tube I see?
What does that do.

produce heat

I agree with this, unless you're paying thousands for the CD player. Stand alone DAC gives more flexibility.

This. Even if you were able to restore one laser availability is an issue.
This too. If you want to spin discs you can use the player as a transport.
No, it should be a better sounding DAC. Which one did you get? I considered MHDT but no DSD and no I2S.

I wish my brother George was here.

Can someone explain me why this subwoofer has such a crossover?
me-geithain.de/index.php/en/studio/products/active-subwoofer/basis11k

Electronic crossover
TP 24 dB / Okt.
HP 12 dB / Okt.

Why it has different slopes on its high and low passes and how it is supposed to work at all?

If he want to spin disks I think he can just buy a 100$ modern blu-ray player that can play DVD-Audio, SACD and CD. (and blu-ray, of course, but I am not sure that there is a blu-ray audio) + 100$ DAC (or just use this player outputs).

4th order lowpass (tiefpass) is standard for monitors.
2nd order high-pass can be used to protect the woofer from over-excursion with low-level rumble and increase maximum output.

DVD-Audio and SACD won't use the digital outputs (without downsampling at least), but yeah. You've got the format support and can try out different DACs.

old CD players don't have great DACs. Best bang for buck is a used high-end DVD player.

Attached: x022DV1800-f-1[1].jpg (620x378, 14K)

Piracy is $0

Istanbul and I replaced everything with totl parts include pcm61k chips

The tube adds harmonics to the output stage.

So high pass is for that "40 Hz" switch? If that is so I get it.
For some reason I thought that it low passes signal to subwoofer with 24 dB/oct, and high passes to monitors with 12 dB/oct, and that made me scratch my head as I couldn't understand how it will achieve flat response with such a set of filters.
Thank you.

is for Actually he already has a DVD player, missed that, so he can just add DAC to that, and spin disks on that DVD player (if it supports digital stream output, but I am pretty sure it does). So no need to buy BD player and buying a DAC is the best option here.

Nice. K40Y-9 are good caps but limited values and fuckhuge. I don't think I've heard anything with PCM61 but I had an Adcom DAC with PCM56 I quite liked. Topped out at 16/48, though.
Good advice. DVD players seem to be overlooked by collectors. Much newer than vintage CDPs so they should have more life left in them and better parts availability.

but you need to download, sort and transfer all these files
with spotify you can play (almost) everything you want in one click on any device, also playlists and recommendations
you pay for convenience, not for the music itself

my gf doesnt like to use files - she prefers about 5 cds she can put into the car cd player

Is there a Jow Forums guide for speakers?

yeah, it says buy lsr305

Any particular model/brand I should look after?

I don't care about that insignificant amount of convenience so why should I pay for it when I can pirate or buy a physical copy?
>you pay for convenience, not for the music itself
That applies to all digital distribution, at least you admit it unlike subhumans who pay for digitally distributed games.
Your gf is right, you got a keeper

You should pay because if everyone pirates then there would be no releases.

Obvious bait, but no, I am not a corporate cock sucker and I do not have a financial stake in their company so they can go bankrupt for all I care, especially since spotify and tidal are foreign companies.

>insignificant amount of convenience
maybe if you are a nolifer

I didn't meant spotify and such. I meant buying copies from a company that makes records. Why would they bother recording if everyone pirates? Of course you should buy only things that you really like. There is no difference between CD and files on your HDD if they are not DRM protected.

No, speaker choice depends too much on your room, other hardware and budget.

i dont know how to use rew teach me

How do I make my gay porn sound better?
All I have is this crappy Lepai, it's time to upgrade. Any suggestions? I need good bass for the gay porn music, but I want the sloppy squelching noises of the butt sex to sound like I'm really there. That's pretty much all I do, watch gay porn, I don't need it to be good for anything else.

Where should I buy speaker cables? Monoprice?

nordost.com/

WTF is a Class T Digital Audio Amp?

I tried making my own cables with banana plugs but they seem really shitty. If I so much as touch my Lepai then the sound cuts out or gets fucked up. Should I try recutting the cables or is my amp just shitty? It's at fairly low power so I think this might be causing it.

Why do Genelec, and more specifically the 8000 series, get mixed press? The whole "Genelec sound" debate.

Attached: classic_series_2.jpg (1680x1120, 136K)

I own one of these, a 2005 production four BurrBrown PCM 1704 24-bit ladder-type DACs are thus extrapolated x 16 to 705kHz @ 24-bit word length

You going to say this is no good?
