Bump. I always try to tweak power settings but I have no luck always.

The SOLE reason I don't use Linux is because every distro I've tried decimates my battery life, often even in half. It makes my laptop effectively non-functional as a laptop. I care about my "freedom" really, but if I can't use something then it makes it pointless unfortunately. And for all my troubleshooting, it does seem to be a very common experience among Linux users

best I can do without cheating on screen brightness and wifi is 7.5w

8.5W for me, i5-2520, ssd, brightness@50%. Pretty loaded machine with wwan, gps, wacom so maybe that pulls little more power.

Windows 7 draws about 10 to 12 watts per hour on my laptop. Most batteries are 40 watts, so that comes out to be 3.5 to 4 hours, depending what I am doing.

I installed windows 10 on a modified chrome book, and that thing uses 4 to 5 watts every hour with battery saver function on. That equates to 8 to 10 hours, which is best I have gotten on any laptop.

Linux is terrible and I would not use it for my laptop.

Yep. It takes a lot of power to record & upload everything you do. Windows will never have best battery
