Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

>Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
>Install because I couldn't install steam on Debian without Flatpak
>It's the just werks distro
>bumblebee-nvidia doesn't work with any workaround
what the fuck, LTS is supossed to be the equivalent of Debian Stable with newer packages, but they don't check something so fucking basic as Bumblebee wich just werks on arch, debian and fedora and gentoo.
Does Mint patch this kind of problem since it's downstream of ubuntu?
I ordered a Thinkpad T440p for me and I'm giving this gaymen laptop to my sister, is Mint better for this shit? I read online and is a problem with the package Ubuntu ships on 18.04, not a problem on Ubuntu 16 or 17 but then it speaks a lot about Ubuntu devs. If not mint should I make my sister a /gentoowoman/ (male)?

Welcome, friend

Use manjaro, retard.

not your tech support

lol.
I don't think your sister or brother or whatever is going to be able to use Linux without a lot more involved...just give her win10..

For how long have you Googled? Here is some solution:
askubuntu.com/questions/1029169/bumblebee-doesnt-work-on-ubuntu-18-04
Also Bumblebee is allegedly basically dead.
github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee/issues/947
You can't blame Ubuntu for not being compatible with some obscure project that hasn't been updated for a long time.

It's great. Don't be scared of command line, you'll learn a lot.

Not your tech support, m8

get a better computer, lol

If you're giving this one to your sister just get her a normal OS like based windows 10.

Install solus

I would advise you to avoid that entire family of distros (Debian, Ubuntu, Mint etc). They introduce a whole lot of bugs that are of their own making.

1) Right click Firefox toolbar > customize > disable title bar
2) Use uBlock instead of Adblock

Otherwise welcome.

yeah, the flatpak doesn't support bumblebee. I guess it is in general

wow, so I should just let my sister kill this laptop on windows 10 for vidyas

>1) Right click Firefox toolbar > customize > disable title bar

epicccc

>Install because I couldn't install steam on Debian without Flatpak
what the fuck are you talking about?

Just install Windows 10 on it, your sister will thank you for it
>user... my printer isn't working
>user, how do I install Office?
>user! HOW DO I INSTALL CHROME!

Not him but what's wrong with that? I've been using my big ass TV + wireless keyboard and mouse in my lounge room for ages.

Ye

nvidia = windows.

dumb fucking faggot, get it into your tiny head.

Wtf user
packages.debian.org/stretch/steam

Try Mint. The distro fixes almost everything wrong with Ubuntu.

>printer isn't working
It works out of the box
>how do I install Office?
>HOW DO I INSTALL CHROME!
The same way you do on android. Open the app store.

Remove snap shit. That's the same aids you are trying to run away from. They even had the balls to install the system monitor and calculator as snap. Results in slow start of the affected programs and using wrong libraries that have different font rendering and theme rendering. It's not a accident that they partnered up with Microsoft.

Nvidia Optimus on Linux has been a major pain in the ass since forever, congrats for realising it first hand.

What about the Solus Steam runtime?

this.

i believe u can switch between GPUs in ubuntu but it involves rebooting each time

haven't tried. windows 10 is comfy

THANK YOU FOR THE TITLE BAR THING

Thanks mate, pretty useful.

Except when you need some package.

Also this for everything else:

I actually installed 18.04.1 a while ago to have a look and you're totally right. They were so much slowers than traditionally installed programs. Not to mention each snap has its own libraries, so if a library is popular it may be installed on your system 10 times over, depending on how many "snaps" you have. So stupid

Yeah, snaps/flatpacks/docker are only really useful for closed source things like games but only in combination with proper sandboxing. Can't imagine what havok that shit can do for a user if not sandboxed, just take a peek at steam for linux on github and search for delete in the issue tracker. They even "rm -rf /"-ed once.

>nvidia
You had known the source of your problems from the beginning, hadn't you?

That's windows way. Everything except for MS libraries is stored in application folder and often duplicated.

True, and windows has builtin "superfetch" that loads all often used third party libraries at system start, so most users don't realize that as a problem.

i canĀ“t install any linux distro because i constantly use solidworks
i wish we can use all this programs on linux
