This is fine. Past a certain point, you can't see the difference between pixel density and all you're doing by adding more pixels is just taxing the phone. This is why the XR lasts 2 hours longer than the 8 Plus despite having a bigger display and a smaller battery.

Android never really gives you much to do with the microSD slot anyway. You can't even move applications over anymore. This is why if you have a 16 GB Galaxy S4 with a 32GB card inserted, your phone will still fill up really quickly regardless.
I'd rather have a huge capacity iPhone without removable/expandable storage.

I'm currently running an 8 plus however, I'm looking to shift to a Chinese phone soonish

Getting a manufacturer contracted for small e-ink displays increases costs. And having them connected in parallel with the LCD to power without breaking off during assembly probably costs more.
