not directly related but Go team has written a posix-subset research kernel with pure Go (and 1500 lines of assembly) and run some benchmarks with nginx, redis etc. Go kernel proved to be very fast, C kernel was 15% faster.

every thread is a kernel goroutine and memory management is done with Go garbage collection, so basically Go runtime is running on kernel mode. very interesting.
